Ranma ½ Ranma canon questions

Strangely enough I haven't found a thread for general Ranma questions. So I'm creating my own.

Do Hiroshi, Daisuke, Saiyuri, and Yuka appear in the manga. If yes, are they named? Do they have known family names?

In fanfics Nabiki has 3-4 underlings and the names generally are Ryonami, Hiroko, Kikuko, or Asami. Does Nabiki have any regular cronies in the manga or anime? If yes, do they have names?

Hiroshi, Daisuke, Yuka and Saiyuri do show up in the manga.

The four underlings aren't named in the manga, they're just girls that are shown around Nabiki at times in the early parts of the manga.

To my knowledge... Yuka and Sayuri are also unnamed in manga. I'm pretty sure the boys are, though cannot remember where.

Not that I can remember in the manga, though their names are credited in the anime for the voice actors.
And do you know if they have family names in the credits or if the family names are mentioned in the anime?

There is one point in the manga, I don't remember which arc, where Akane and her two female friends are at a fair or carnival or similar. One of the girls says something like they should have invited Hiroshi and Daisuke to come along. This does not, however, prove that those names belong to the two boys who are sometimes shown with Ranma.

Indeed, without an actual page of them being refered as such, they just turn out to be popular names.

So, is the prevailing thought now that those names (Hiroshi/Daisuke, Yuka/Sayuri) are anime-only?

Well, I can't have that. I hate the anime. From now on, the guys are Kyo and Iori, and the girls are Mature and Vice. :evil2:

According to wikipedia...

Hiroshi and Daisuke are students in Ranma's class at Furinkan High School. The duo became Ranma's friends and supporters, although they remain jealous of Ranma's luck with the ladies. They eventually learn about Ranma's curse and enjoy looking at him when he is in his girl form, noting "Why can't there be more girls like him?" The entire school found out (except for Kuno and the teachers) during Mousse's first appearance in the manga but in the anime it was a secret until very late in the series. It should be noted that their names were never mentioned in the Manga and that after the story arc when Hinako tries to teach Akane to swim, they vanished and were never mentioned again.
Having said this, I'd much rather we continued calling them by these names as it's better than having no consistent name at all.

Just saying, is all.

They were shown in 'The Delinquent Teacher', 'Ranma take a bow', during the mirror clone arc they try and drag off Clone-chan, they showed up at the wedding. Wikipedia is once again wrong.

But their names aren't mentioned.

The wikipedia quote appears to be incorrect. Of course, their names were never given in the manga in the first place, which makes it sound strange to say they were never mentioned "again". Unless this is referring to the anime. But the two boys who fill that role in the manga, although never specifically named, do appear among the wedding guests in the final chapter. Looking at their invitations, one of them says to the other, "Ranma and Akane? Seriously?" Nabiki demands his gift of money as soon as he walks in on the catastrophe in the dojo.

Edit: Seems that Lawra just beat me to it.

Quick question: Was there any instance of a liquid other than water being used to trigger the curses?

Several drinks are shown to do it.
What kind of drinks? Are we talking about tea, that strictly speaking is more like dirty water or something else like milk or spirits?

Unknown, but random drinks were used to change Ranma back and forth. So anything that contains water should be viable.

As far as the manga and anime show, any cold liquid will work.

It does need to be a liquid however since if I remember correctly, snow doesn't actually trigger the curse, even when melting.

Most everything liquid that your going to run into in normal events is going to have a good amount of water. Drinks are water based, even most fluid cleaning products have been diluted to some degree with water.

Exceptions to this would be cooking oils, various lubricants and fuels, and non water based paints and other surface coatings. Other then that unless Ranma is rampaging through an industrial facility, I doubt he's going to get doused with acetone, or any other non water based liquid. If he does get coated in those, considering the properties most of them have, he's going to have a lot bigger worries then his curse.

Snow makes absolutely no sense. It's just frozen water, and whenever you touch it, it instantly melts a little bit. That would become a question of amount, but little amounts have been shown to do it, so a snowball to the face should do it.

Probably another one of the many plot holes in the manga.

Please, do note that Ranma FROZE HIMSELF OVER at least two time and didn't activate his curse either from the freezing or from the ice melting on his body.

The two time I remember off-hand are that one Arc Ranma put himself in the freezer so as to negate the curse long enough to meet his mother and the Saffron Arc, where he did it in order to survive Saffron's fireballs. The latter is particularly obvious since the ice was melting visibly.

It's not as bad as Nodoka though, she sort of broke Genma's character. She can be used to explain why Genma was trying to marry Ranma off so quickly after the curse. But it doesn't explain why he never gives Ranma hell for acting girly, and even suggests that he'll support Ranma getting married to Kuno. But then Nodoka shows up, and bam, suddenly there's this seppuku contract that contradicts his uncaring attitude up until that point.

Please, do note that Ranma FROZE HIMSELF OVER at least two time and didn't activate his curse either from the freezing or from the ice melting on his body.

Which is broken, Ice = water, it's current state doesn't matter past hot/cold. Rumiko must have gotten the same education that Kishi did when he came up with lightning > earth in Naruto.

I don't see the Nodoka plot hole. Genma wanting to marry Ranma off so quickly has nothing to do with Nodoka, that is entirely Genma and Soun's thing. Genma doesn't care if Ranma acts girly, Nodoka does. Genma's way of dealing with that was to not tell Ranma anything about her and try to hide from her. I don't see how that contradicts Genma's uncaring behavior, he still doesn't care just doesn't want Nodoka to see Ranma being girly. Ranma being girly - fine with Genma, Ranma being girly were Nodoka can see it - not fine.

Has anyone done a timeline and figured the minimum amount of time has elapsed during the manga (ignoring the screwy seasons)?
