Spring of drowned twins has been done numerous times in fan fiction.

Generally though, when seeing that plot device in fan fiction, one is either
- left with two independent Ranma forms with same personality like 'Love and Honor' by Syithe
- one has the personality/soul of the drowned girl or some crossover character like Lina Inverse or Washu such as in 'Two In One' by Proteus.
- Perhaps that other copy also is left with a link or at least knowledge of Ranma's past embedded like 'Neko Senshi' by TheGrum.

Ranma controlling multiple bodies before with a single mind has also been done before, both in using spring of drowned twin, and by other means. Example of other means would be
- one crossover with OMG where he learned to make multiple copies of himself and had to make them move independently like 'Deification' by Brian Drozd.
- a Ranma X-Men cross where he did the same with Ki clones like 'Change of Power' by Ice-Tea-1983.

A different use for Jusenkyo is used in 'Breaking Chains' by TheGrum. After learning of his unborn sisters soul being in him, along with all his feminine views... he goes to Jusenkyo and deliberately gives himself the girl curse, learns t control it, then using other means gives himself a new body, leaving his 'sister' in control of the original cursed body, which remains female as she has the knowledge of how to control it.

Don't remember the title, though... PC? Ring any bells?
The one to come to mind as closest to this idea did not use Jusenkyo... it was a BEA thread where the fiancés had all been attacked and their brains pretty much made mush... The creature that did it controlled their bodies, and was destroyed by Cologne, whom then made Ranma the controller until she could find some cure for the girls. He could only control one body at a time.

I think I recall this one, it was on the FFML, way back in the day (98 maybe?).

It was implied that the duplication was due to end of series Ranma time traveling back to try to prevent something and things went wrong.

Also remember that every so often, in intensely stressful moments, the two bodies would sink up and get a super charge which was implied to be tapping into end of series Ranma's future (past? yay time travel) abilities.

Sadly I don't remember the name of the fic or the author :(

Ehhh... Sounds a little like 'More Than Half' by Michael Fetter though I've not read that in ages. It crossed with Neon Genesis and Sailor Moon.

EDIT:
R-MULTI 'More Than Half' by Michael Fetter - [Dld Date=10/10/2004] - [Dld Size=702kb] - [Dld Files=5] - [Status=Inactive]

Actually... another old fic with twins stuff occurs to me, two arcs one a NGE crossover, R-NGE 'Ranma's second chance'-'Neon Ranma Gen' by DarkVortex

I think drack is thinking of the same fic I am. Another thing I remember is that the curse still "worked." That is, if one (or both, maybe? I don't remember exactly) of Ranma's bodies was splashed with hot water, the girl body would disappear until Ranma was splashed with cold water again. Also, there was a specific scene where Ranma was using one body (laid out in the infirmary at the time) to ask for directions so he could guide his other body around town somewhere.

Draklor's fic is:
Mirror, mirror by Michael Ricketts.
it's unfinished but I was able to find it last night.
Prologue and Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
Part 4
Part 5
Part 6
Part 7

I think coconutED is confused though. The infirmary scene happens but the girl body doesn't disappear. They did some sort of ritual with a stolen Amazon scroll and mirror. Its a case of the cure being worse than the curse.

Any fics with heavily bro Ranma and Ryoga (and possibly some of the other male characters, ie. Konatsu, Mousse)?

Not really all that many come to mind.

Most where I can think of where they get along are matchups between them by fans of the pairing, not really as brothers.

Most of the remainder have them as allies or friends, not really brothers.

Ones that are not matchups where they think of each other that way normally are ones reminiscing on it. Like 'All We Know of Heaven' by Prospero Hibiki. in that Ranma is cnsired a link to the past and almost as a honorary member of the family by the Hibiki clan.

Of them thinking themselves as family... one comes to mind where Ranma hides out with Ryoga help and changes her name to Hibiki, even makes her part of the family business of being security break in specialists... can't think of the name at the moment.

I remember a Ranma and Konatsu one I think was on RanmaFics a few years ago. Can't think of any with Mousse or Kuno.

EDIT: Actually, for Kuno, perhaps 'Roses of Shadow' by Richard Lawson would count.

The Konatsu one, you're probably thinking of The Four Truths?

Not sure if this is quite what you're looking for when you ask for Bro, but It's The Shinobi Life For Us certainly has its moments. It's between Ranma, Ryoga, and Mousse. They're still ripping on each other and sometimes nearly at each other's throats when shit gets really bad, but they never splinter. More along the lines of Vitrolic Best Buds and Teeth Clenched Teamwork.

They still seem to always come through for each other when they really need it though. The three of them are alone in a foreign world (Naruto world), and they pretty quickly decide that if the natives decide to try and make them do shit like assassinations, all three of them will bust out together. Also, their 'bell test'. It makes their stance on certain things abundantly clear, and shows up pretty early.

So....maybe it counts as very dysfunctional bro? Or the kind of brotherhood that fights a lot but not with any real malice, and will come down like the fist of god on any outsider that makes a serious attempt on one of them.

At the very least they never intentionally screw each other over. Too badly. And it's pretty funny. Not sure if it's what you're looking for, but I think it's worth a read.

There's Jim Bader's: A very Scary Thought

In that fic they're about as "bro" as humanly possible

Gaming Ikari's : Forcibly United

Ranma and Ryoga magically stuck together, do some freelance work in Roanapur to finance the cure for their condition. Black Lagoon Cross, so if you don't like Lagoon it might not be for you. Otherwise a pretty good story.

There's Claymade's The Dark Lords of Nerima

Ranma and Ryoga cook up a plan to help a friend and end up branded as the public enemy #1 to both the sailor senshi....and the negaverse?

I would also give this series the modern classic label. The author can somehow do comedy, action, and ultra serious scenes equally well, which is a pretty rare thing in fanfiction. And it comes complete with 2 sequels.

Cap'n Chryssalid's: The Road to Cydonia

X-Com Cross, can get kinda dark at times but that's kinda what X-com is all about. Ranma-humor is still very present though. The Bro-ness definitely provides some of the warmer moments. The Nerima regulars become a family/Military unit. If you don't mind the Darkness I'd call it a modern day classic.

There's also it's sequel/interlude Reflections Lost on a Dark Road

The Bro-ness is turned up a notch to include more team techniques!

This fic does require reading at least one other though. It's a joint project with Lathis that's also a sequel to his/her The Titans and The Lost Boy

and Dark Titans

Reading the Titans and the lost boy is an essential pre-read due to some unresolved issues that lead to a few conflicts in Reflections.

Dark Titan's mainly just give's you info on some of Ryoga's new techniques. Though all of these fics are excellent reads, if you're pressed for time you can skip this one.

Really late, but do you know the title/any indication of the thread itself?

From a post made 8 months ago?

Actually, yes, despite the fact that is one I do not track... but the issue is this is not the restricted section, so cannot give links.

I believe the earliest episodes were called Taken Red... Akane was the first victim. But like most stories on the BEA... they change names inconsistently and constantly due to lack of standards... not to mention branch offs

Ranma is a wild horse. A wildcard. None can predict him, nor can they control. He seems to able to defy Destiny itself. Let us see him walk among others that can do the same. The First Ever Ranma/Campione Crossover

new fic I found.

Its not perfect, but I'm hoping that it turns out good.

I'm hoping it isn't as hard to read (ie. like swallowing a giant pill hard) as his other Campione cross fic.

I haven't read it so I can't compare.

But he openly admits to disliking a significant number of the Ranma cast.

And while that does show in some his character descriptions, it hasn't made any character seem OOC yet. (Akane might be, but fanon has biased my tolerance levels for that).

That said, its only been a chapter, so I can't really judge yet, though its enough for me to give it a chance.

It is horrible. That guy needs to learn how to use punctuation because more than a couple of commas in a sentence is just too many. 2 in one is ok. 3 or 4? Eh, depends on usage but still within the realm of believable but 7+? You have got to be kidding. The sad thing is that this happens multiple times.

Thank lord for small mercies that it, at the very least, doesn't try to be light novel-espe for the most part. I don't know if it is a new trend that popped up or something but I am noticing an uptick of fics that are styled much in the same way as a translated light novels. Needless to say, these fics read awkwardly because English isn't built to work like Japanese in literary works.

Putting this here because somehow people who are newer to fanfiction may never have heard of a story this ancient. It was one of the most amazing Ranma stories written back in the 90s, though now it might be dated a tad (because, you know, it's almost 20 years old). That whole website is worth a browse through, at least the multi-chapter stories are. The ancient fanfiction of yore is contained there, and if you've never read em, you'll probably find that a lot of them are worth the read.

PC, Bro does not mean what you think it means.

In that context anyway, he meant like, them being 'bros' as in, friends.

Really good friends.

So I just finished reading Ranma for the first time and since it's so popular, I wanted to know which are top fics of the fandom. What have you got for me?

That's a rather loaded question and you may want to narrow it down a bit on what you're looking for.

Also, since you just got done reading it you may find some of the older "classics" to be a bit strange to get into due to the creation of a lot of fanon that became established.

Hmmm...Ranma-centric, preferably male or male/female rather than all female (I've heard that can be a thing) and no yaoi. Preferably complete or at least lengthy enough to be worth it so like 40k+ unless its quite good.
