Had an idea that won't leave me. The universe of Mass Effect is a direct result of the Time War from Doctor Who, more to the point, the Direct Result of The Doctor not surviving Gallifrey's destruction, but an O.C. Time Lady, one who had just graduated and accidentally allowed the Reapers to florish. She discovers about the reapers and is horrified, but without the Matrix and/or a Senior Time Lord has no idea of the way to destroying them by herself without causing a paradox. I'm thinking the Reapers were created by survivors of a species who witnessed the Daleks, and decided to take that basic idea and go big...
