Reccomended Game Fanfiction

Blargh, every HP or Naruto fic has officially melded into a giant ooze, indiscernable from each other. I require something new.

I require some game fics. This is where you come in.

I'll put up a few I personally liked.

Latias' Journey - Pokemon
With her home destroyed, Latias sets out on a journey to protect herself from the mysterious Ghost King. On the way, she encounters new friends and adventures, and wonders if perhaps the one who destroyed her city is really all that he seems.

This fic is a great example of an author who completes his work no matter how covulted it gets. An intriguing story, quite a bit of characters, huge length, the fact that it's complete, and interesting scenario make it one of my favorite fics, even if it's not pure liquid quality. Over 1.1million words.

Chrono Trigger: The Sands of Time
Extremely well written Chrono Trigger novelization.

Ask and you shall receive

Free Radical by Shamus Young

A very good novelization of the first System Shock game.

The Road Less Traveled by Icy Mike Molson

This fic is the only gem I found while looking at the Diablo section in FF.net. The author manages to use characters from all the classes from Diablo II without just repeating the game story or making them OOC in relation to the setting. All of the authors other fics in various genres are also good reads.

Shattered Knight by Tim Radley

This is one of the only, if not the only, good male Revan KoTOR fic. It's an AU that was started before KoTOR2 was made. It even has an original pairing as it's a Revan/Yuthura fic.

Damnit Souffle, not halfway down the first page is the recs thread I started a few days ago.

Anyway, Copypastad from that post.

Eternal Arcadia

A retelling of the game, generaly epic, sometimes full of lulz. Rather well done overall.

The Golden Power

The Epic Zelda fic, ongoing. Nothing realy to say other than, WIN!

Soldier of Spira

The game from Auron's perspective, Aurikku. A bit disjointed at times, but worth checking out. Very, very long.

My Choice

A collection of nonconected FFXII snippets exploring the characters choices of, and relationships with, weapons. Some are good, some are boring, but if nothing else, the chrismas special chapter is worth reading. If only the game was that intresting.

Harmony's Dischodant Notes

An interesting short story about Cidolfus' and Balthier's history, from the perspective of one of Cid's asistants. Not bad.

Several other fics by that author are readable too, notably "The Stuff Legends are Made of" which details Balthier's and Fran's first meeting and subsequent piratey antics.

Game fanfiction?

I know one or two good ones...

All the Roads We Have To Walk is the most epic Kingdom Hearts fic ever. Worth a read, and now with 100% more sequel!

Ginger Ninja has an assortment of other good KH and Final Fantasy related stuff up. Also worth looking at.

For us Baldur Gate lovers... Breaching the Screen is a fourth wall shattering look at Baldur's Gate II.

Tale of the Bhaalspawn is Capt. Incredible's novelization of BGII, and it is infinitely better than the real novel (not that it's hard to beat that piece of *&%/).

Speaking of the novel... MST anyone?

For P3, how about epic lulz? Triangle Spread is amazing(ly funny). Short but sweet (for us). Broken S. Links? Poor Minato-kun...

Unfeeling is creeepy. We've all wondered how Death was sealed, and the answer is "with death."

Black Legacies

THE Legend of Dragoon fanfic. Unfortunately Shade's all but abandoned it at this point but for what's there, all 58 chapters is full of WIN.

Saria's Last Song

The only Zelda/FFVII crossover fanfic worth reading right now. Trust me.

Truth, Reality, Duty and Conscience

Same premise as Serial Ravist's 'Heart of Gold' . I just read some of this stuff... and sit there in awe. The end all BE all of Ramza/Agrias. Sadly discontinued.

Glad to be of help. :D

Anyway here's a few more.

Hammer of Terrascars

IMO The best Fire Emblem VII adaptation I ever found. Though it centers mainly on the Tactician, I still found it to be a very satisfying read.

Dragon Tears

An AU Breath of Fire fanfiction that I found to be quite enjoyable. Started reading this some time about 4 years ago and was enamored with it.

Act I : Trial of a Man

One of the longest, grittiest Zelda pieces I've read in a long time. That said, it's damn good. Crosses with both FFVIII and Diablo II and it's still awesome.

And since we already have one of Serial Ravist's works up here, why not one more?

Save the Queen

Though the start is a bit awkward, I found it to be one of the best characterizations of Ovelia I've ever seen as far as FFTactics fandom goes. Easily on par with 'Heart of Gold' .

And they just keep coming.

The Tainted

A very satisfying Riviera fanfiction with an oddball pairing and plenty of WIN going for it.

DotHack: Heist
DotHack: Relapse
DotHack: Penance
DotHack: Rejoinder

In order.

About as epic a masterpiece as one can get to without it being an epic masterpiece. It disguises itself as an SI fic but it stays very true to the dothack series and the normal cast gets more then it's fair share of screen time. Read it.

A Mentor in Training

More dot hack fiction. Good stuff.

Triad Orion's stuff, particularly his AU Golden Sun fics are really good.

Oh, damn, I forgot about TO. Thanks for the reminder!

And that other authoress... what was her sn... aha! Midnight C wrote my favorite (serious) Golden Sun epic.

Against All Odds->Adrift in Despair->Embers->Breeze->Echoes of Light

I read that a looooong time ago, so if I remember it being better than it actually is, I apologize.

Something that I know is fantastic by her: The Silent Angel's Decree. It's hard being a silent protagonist.

How much of a crossover is it? Does it go into both universes or does it just feature a few of the characters?

Edit: Does he ever start cleaning up the talking so it becomes easier to read? Currently he seems to have a fetish for confusing his readers since there is nothing distinguishing Link's talking from the normal text.

Edit2: Are you sure this thing is good? I'm on the sixth chapter and this thing is, so far, almost painful to read it is so poorly written.

For my own suggestions:
The Power of Choice by Sith Lord Darth Revan
This is an extremely good Revan x Bastila fic with Revan being mostly dark. However, don't read any of the author's other fics because they are all kind of like this one except worse.
The Golden Power

The Epic Zelda fic, ongoing.á Nothing really to say other than, WIN!
Agreed.

Odd. I don't remember the formatting being a problem before.

Probably an FFNet issue.

And yes I'm absolutely sure it's a good read. May not be your taste but I enjoyed it.

I don't like FFVII. But this made me fall over laughing, OOC or not: This Army Life.

Favorite quote so far:
ôSo, only we and the rest of Midgar are to know.á Great.öá Tseng rubbed his temples.

ôDoes this mean I can go out, get drunk, and get paid for it?ö Reno asked.

ôYes.ö

ôIÆm out of here.á Come on, Rude.öá The two Turks slipped out the door.
EDIT: Found another one:
Zack thought for a bit, then pounded his fist into his palm.á ôIÆve got it.á Wait here.öá A minute later, Zack came back into the tent with a nervous looking blond kid.á ôSeph, meet Cloud.ö

ôHe looks like a deer caught in headlights.ö

ôWell, he is a dear and, to be fair, your eyes are headlights.ö

Sephiroth blinked his glowing green eyes several times.á The kid remained frozen in place, blue eyes wide.á ôHe looks like the misbegotten child of a chocobo and President Shinra.ö

ôExactly,ö Zack said, ôWeÆre going to put him in a sack with only his head sticking out, throw him in the chocobo corral and Rufus will count Cloud as one of the rest.ö
EDIT2 (Last one, I promise)
Cloud sighed and sat down on the desk. "I gotta question, man."

"Shoot."

"If I'm on the Chocobo side and he's on the Mako side, which side are you on?"

Without looking up from his book, Zack reached behind his back and pulled out a light saber.

"Oh. That explains a lot. What color?"

Zack turned it on.

"Purple?" Cloud pulled the book down to look Zack in the eye. "You know about the purple light saber effect, right?"

Zack rolled his eyes and put the light saber away. "You know what this means right?"

Cloud sighed and put his head in his hands. "Star Wars parody. We are so screwed."

Hmm... I believe Dark Futures would qualify. Sadly, it's discontinued.

I'm a bit iffy on this one but you could also try Soul Calibur: Of Souls and Swords. Reluctant because for one this story has also been discontinued and that the author rarely finishes anything he works on.

StarCrossed Souls: Twilight of the Spirit Sword

Another Zelda/Soul Calibur crossover. Quite good, but the author hasn't updated in ages.

The Legend of Zelda: Legacy of Darkness

Crossover between Zelda and Castlevania 64. Very well done. The author updates infrequently but to my knowledge this is still being worked on.

*cough*

Anyway, do Visual Novels count?

All of these are based on TYPE-MOON. Stuff I found that stood out in some way, shape, or form.

Fate: Once Again

Fate/Stay Night fanfic by Alyeris. A continuation post 10 years after the Unlimited Blade Works scenario. I won't say it's epic, because it's not. But I still found it to be a very fun read. Reasonably new and still ongoing.

Forest for the Trees

I'm half convinced 90% of everything Hawker writes is gold. Not a common focus in FSN but Hawker still manages to pull it off.

Waking

Shirou/Saber fluff. Ongoing. Solid.

The Beasts Lair

A message board that centers on Type-moon fanfiction. Perhaps the best source of good Fate/Stay Night and Tsukihime stories on the internet.

A winner is me!!! :yay:

Actually, I just remembered a webcomic that I read that's based on Captain N: The Game Master (Nintendo of America's god-awful 80s cartoon. I watch it to bleach my brain). It's a sprite comic, and has an original plot despite using it's source games roots.

Captain SNES The Game Masta

Funny as hell, especially if you like old school Nintendo.
