Recommend Web Orginal Fiction

I'll toss another recommendation onto the veritable pile that Worm has. Also, the final Epilogue chapter went up yesterday.

Not the biggest fan of the ending, but I guess it fits the tone of the universe.

Yeah, I'm pretty bummed that Worm ended. I still read The Legion of Nothing and Super Powereds but they're not the same. Anyone have recommendations for any new cape stories?

My first post in this thread has quite a few superhero stories. I'd particularly recommend Star Harbor Nights. Its original site is gone and it stopped updating but it's well worth the time all the same.

Chapters 1-4 can be found here. 5-12 can be found on the internet archive. Start here and just keep hitting Next. All these chapters have multiple parts so there's a lot to read.

After the original site went down, the author picked up the story on a new site. It continues here for another 85 chapters before stopping. (These chapters aren't multi part, thought).

You could try Wonder City Stories, which I recced up thread. It's a superhero story but approaches it quite differently from Worm.

Under My Skin

Under My Skin is the story of Min Lee, a young woman who has everything. She has a great job with a great salary, a great boyfriend, a great house and a great family. Her future looks bright. Still... she can't help noticing the cracks in her life and privately wondering if this is all that there is. It's not until she meets Bree, a headstrong schoolgirl hellbent on anchoring herself in Min's life, that she allows herself to recognize that her perfect life isn't so perfect for her.

And that's when everything starts to get really f*cked up.

The story follows Min as she tries to reconcile how she feels inside with how she looks outside, how it impacts her work and her relationships, and what it all ultimately means for her future.
What's Under My Skin? Well its not sci-fi, superhero or fantasy. I like it all the same. It has a really strong lesbian/trans gender bent and I'm a sucker for lesbian romances. Bree is crazy, Min is repressed and, well, it gave me feels :sisi:

Tieshaunn
In a world, where superheroes and -villains have been fighting since the twenties, a world whose present is so very unlike our own, a young gadgeteer, Basil Blake, seeks both the thrills of a hero’s life as well as the chance to do some good.

The world is haunted by an invincible woman out to destroy all she sees; by a hundred-year-old villain who sees all as a mere game, moving all the pieces under his sway for his own amusement; by twisted abominations born of a single man’s spite towards all; by six madmen out to spread their madness; by an overlord who wants to subjugate all and by a great advantage in numbers for the villains.

Yet, there are heroes who seek to better the world, lead by the original superheroine, Lady Light.

Basil, under the name of Brennus, agrees with these points of light in the darkness of the world and joins the fight – in his own way.
Tieshaunn isn't Worm. It is worse it every single way. It does wish it were Worm, through, and tries its hardest. The writing is exposition heavy to the point of ludicrousnesses in the early parts. In the later parts, when the plot starts moving, things get a lot better but I tend to find it a touch confusing. Despite its flaws I really like this story,

Book 1 (the fist and so far only book) follows Brennus, who is a Gadgeteer. This means he can create super tech that really works, as opposed to tech that only works because the inventor thinks it should. (And yes, this bit does seem to be straight from Whateley). It starts with him realising he has powers, telling his sister (who turns out to be a super villain but loves all the same) and going out to start fighting crime.

As the story progresses the world builds up. We find out the 'Sovjet Union' is still about. We're told of Desolation-in-Light, a super powerful metahuman come force of nature. We learn of the origin of meta human and a sinister group called the Companions of the Future working to brining about its fate. And tying it all back to Brennus is a slowly expanding story that hints that there's a lot more to Brennus and his history than we (or indeed he) knows.

I'd recommend people give it a try and stick with it through the first few painful chapters.

Its worth noting, that it shares more than just passing similarities with worm.

There's a group of roaming villains called the Savage Six who roam around the world killing people and being fucking horrible and destroying towns while recruiting people to replace their fallen members after testing them. They have a crazy evil tinker, a smart guy who leads them, a pyromancer who can teleport to their flames...

(Slaughterhouse Nine anyone?)

The big bad is called 'Desolation in light' has infinite powers but can only use three at a time, and when she changes them, they start out weak for a short time (Eidolon anyone?)

Powers are apparently represented by gigantic other dimensional... things.
(shards anyone?)

Anyway, this exists throughout the entire series. Ideas stolen wholesale from worm. That said, Wildbow likes Brennus, and has no objection, so I don't mind. Its just a thing.

The web serial is decent. If worm is a 5 star webserial, Brennus is a 3.5, and while it does steal lots of ideas, it has some very good ones of its own.

Mother of Learning update.

The author also gave some information of the story as a whole. There will be three arcs and we are just approaching the end of the first.

I think I'm going to enjoy the Novelty meeting immensely.

And is anyone else hoping for some Brother Sister fluff resulting from the telepathy.

If there is one thing this fic lacks, its positive feels

I feel like Timani is going to try and seduce him. Like: She's from a family with a shady reputation and he's exactly what they want their "family magecraft" to be, so if his natural talents are at all inheritable she'll want his genes as well as his knowledge, AND they seem to get along really well.

Well, compared to refriending Zach, that might not be important though.

Say, guys, would you mind it if I recommended my own Web Serial here?

The longer pre-reader version here:
http://forums.sufficientvelocity.com/threads/merstory-experimental-illustrated-webserial.2530/

The public location:
www.newtribez.net/merstory/

I'd really appreciate some insight if it's working out. It's not deep, angst-fueled work. Please check it out if you're in the mood for light-hearted survival fantasy and romance.

Interesting chapter. We now know more about how the time loop works. I wonder if the stamp being on too many people is part of what's causing the time loop to degrade. Could you stop it entirely by applying it to lots of people?

How is it degrading? I don't recall anything about degrading off the top of my head. I thought all the alterations and so on were as a result of things the timeloopers had already done, as in the aranea, or were a result of how the loop worked in the first place, as in the whole Divine/Demonic lock out.

I can't remember which chapter we're told its happening in, but here's some recap from chapter 27.
Admittedly, the matriarch's last message mentioned something about the time loop gradually decaying, but she named no concrete deadlines in the fragments he had managed to piece together and he believed she would have put greater emphasis on that part if the timetable was particularly tight.
