It's an older story, and a cross at that, but I really, really like the portrayal of the Scoobs in general on this one, Xander specifically. Highly recommend this if you haven't already read it.

not my usual fare as far as fiction goes but DAMN was that good.

Read the one with descendant time travel, and it was really meh and facepalming after a certain point.

An amusing little fic in which one of the schools dropped out of the tournement and apparently Dumbledore didn't quite look at the fine print when looking for a suitable replacement. Poor Hogwarts.

Wasn't it part of the TOS episode Botany Bay that the Eugenics Wars started in like...1996?

Whenever I see someone trying to crossover modern stories with ST I run into that issue.

Don't know if this fic was recced or not. A crossover between Buffy and The Tomb Raider.

Great story, great characterization and a very interesting plot but pretty infrequent(rare) updates.

it might have been rec'ed before but oh well I'm too lazy to double check, i present to you <a href='http://fanfiction.tenhawkpresents.com/viewstory.php?sid=309' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'>Spark of Genius</a>

It a.... creative Halloween "what if" story that focuses on Xander. However much like many of the Xander focused fics out there it has many of the same pitfalls. so I'll have to give such warnings as: Sup'ed up xander!, Harem in the making!, Hidden candy cheat!, Dork is smexy!, and my personal "favorite" small bouts of random emo!

That aside like I said its very creative, it doesn't retrace the Buffy storyline, the plot doesn't even know which way its going, there's man's ultimate dream come true in it and Mad genius xander is awesome to behold if more than a little overdone.

Xander with a SPARK is scary awesome I just wish the author wouldn't overpower him physically so much and then make him deal with problems that would have been more interesting to read about if he couldn't just bulldoze his way through half of it.

The bad points are offset, however, by Xander NOT always agreeing with the Justice League and butting heads as a result - which is fun.

Overall I'd give this story a 7/10, the length is more than decent, the writing is on par with most "good" fanfiction out there and the creativity along with just not knowing what will happen next when screwing with the DC universe makes me keep clicking that damned "next" button

meaning, it's not 'good' but it's interesting, it's better if you remember the MST3K mantra and take as it is: a crack fic instead a serious 'serious' work.
i like it, but the Superman(prime, or at least beyond the JL-verse of Superman)-Level of Xander-sue can grat on your nerves.

Oh I completely agree, really the ONLY thing in my mind that saves it is I just don't know what to expect next. I'll probably never re-read it like I've done with Tenhawk's Jurney-verse (yes, yes I did read all of that twice) but its good for one read and interesting enough for me to keep up with it.

I find its very hard to find a Xander-centered fic that isn't written Horribly and its an original idea as far as I've seen. SPARK!Xander is a great idea I just wish the story was written with more "Mind over Matter = physics is my bitch" mentality than "Mind creates bulldozer to use on problems" and the story HAD that at first, the former mentality not the latter but that quickly got thrown to the wayside.

meh, Xander fics are 98% infinite powerups pileup, 1.98% are bashing of him and there is less than .02% in which Xander is a likeable main character and is not a deus ex character.

Personally I like Xander's character because he sure as hell isn't perfect, in all actuallity Xander is quite selfish he doesn't have a hero complex like Harry Potter. In fact I would have loved to see more of the vengeful side of Xander. If ya take a good long look at him he only started helping Buffy for two reasons: 1) Willow 2) Jesse. Oh sure he'd get more reasons as the show went on but at the start? nah just those two.

In regards to the story I personally would have preferred if Xander had stayed the same physically at the beginning, nano-clanks are all well and good but I honestly think there's only so much a human body can be naturally reinforced before you have to get into mystical means. And if their wasn't then it should have been a slow process to reach the level he's at by chapter 8.

His Spark where just right, to bad the author literally didn't go the more "mad scientist" route than "I can make myself into Superman 2.0!"

drawing parallels Xander is more like Frank Castle than Batman, as his initial motive for hunting vamps and the like was revenge for having to kill Jesse, he is rather selfish and a vegeful SoB who would have been friends with Ripper in Giles youth, or wit the Romani, as you said he is no true bloood hero, he is more of a hunter/avenger.
