Alright with the demise of (IMO) of interesting Harry Potter fanfiction. It's time I start reading in another fandom.

So what I'm looking for are good stories. Of course we all have different tastes, so don't just drop a name and a link. (Like oh so many of the stories in the General Rcommended Fanfiction Thread.)

Tell me why! Think of this thread as a bookstore or a library and I'm right there, asking your opinion.

I'll go first for all those shy people.

An Unusual Mission ...Summary: Batman and Wonder Woman take on a most unusual - and unexpected - mission ...

And that mission is a date with each other! I liked how Batman and Wonder Woman take this SO seriously, that I the reader don't. It is an older fic, set right after No Man's Land so Batman hasn't done most of the stupid things he's done in the many "Crisis" DC has released.

Only three chapters long, but a decent length and abandoned, it's got plenty of humor, something most writers (fanfiction or in the comics, take a pick) blow at.

The best comic fanfic I've read is a series called "CatTales," centering around the relationship between Batman/Bruce Wayne and Catwoman/Selina Kyle. It also manages to skewer some of the less sensical parts of DC continuity and specifically the denizens of Gotham City.

First fic is here. It's an ongoing series which is currently up to 54 individual fics of varying sizes.

Homepage of the author is here.

Adrian is an awesome writer. ALL of his stories are worth a read, especially. Probationary Member.

Dire Fates

John Constantine the Hellblazer x-over with AMG. Nice long and finished. Has the funniest outtake ever. Also on the site hellblazer/Sailormoon. Constantine is a magical girl. :jawdrop:
The link has all the info you need to understand the characters. Reeves is not Constantine. sorry had to say it.
OUTTAKE

"Commander, the area isn't clear."

"What?!" Major Misato Katsuragi shouted.

"There's a... civilian confronting the angel, commander."

"Is that idiot insane?!" yelled Misato.

"Um, commander? The angel seems to be... um... retreating."

Misato nearly did a double take. "Er, what? What happened?"

"The civillian... um... seemed to have made a few rude gestures,
and he's, er, yelling at the angel."

Misato stared as the giant robotic creature, one of many which NERV
had code-named 'angels', just... walked away.

"Zoom in on him, I wanna know what the hell's going on!"

The massive screens of NERV headquarters all zoomed in on a
blond, scruffy looking individual that was in the middle of
making quite a few rude gestures, yelling at the top of his
lungs. In the distance, the angel was lumbering off.

//-UCK OFF YA BIG FRIGGIN' WANKER! AND IF I SEE YER BLOODY
FACE 'ROUND HERE AGAIN, SACHIEL, YOU'RE GONNA BE KISSING MY
ARSE!//

DOOM 2099 by Doom Scribe
https://www.fanfiction.net/s/6955847/1/Doom-2099-The-Beckoning

Picks up just as the Doom 2099 comic #29 ends with latvia decimated and Doom
forced to begin again. It has everything that makes Dr. Doom great. Intelligence, magic,
technology, arrogance, charisma, honor, and the unstoppable force of will that
precludes any possibility but inevitable victory. Even if you hated the comic the fanfiction will draw you in.

Justice League in Ponyland by LM
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/965024/1/Justice_League_Ponyland
Booster gold and Blue beetle find themselves in ponyland, in trouble, in jail, and insane. You will be on the floor laughing if you read this fic.

They called themselves Booster Gold and Blue Beetle and in many universes that fact alone would have introduced them to a padded cell, even without the costumes.

I have a few, I'm a Nightwing fan so...

8/10
Learning Curve
Batgirl comes to a crossroads with her new mentor and turns to Nightwing for help.
(Cassandra Cain not Babs)

8/10
AWOL Absent WithOut Leave
Nightwing disappears after 'killing' the Joker to sort things out. Now, 6 months later, a new villain appears, claiming the unthinkable... What price are the heroes willing to pay for victory? for truth?

7/10
Court Martial by Charlene Edwards
Blockbuster was murdered ... and Nightwing was "involved". What happens when the superhero community finds out.

8/10
Tangled Webs
What really happened in NW 93. Or so I've been told!

9/10 - Ranma fans should like this, Dick goes through some very unusal changes.
FLUX
Also here: FLUX
An explosive mission changes lives.

All for now, I have a few other favourites, 2 Teen Titans fics (cartoon series not comic) Twisted Heart fics by DBAnsaw(sp?). I'm also getting into Nightwing/Donna Troy fics or Robin/Wondergirl fics from when they were in the Titans (not Tim). I'll post those links some other time... when I can find them.

I started reading FLUX but then it seemed to start to drift toward one of the few pairings that just completely squicks me and that pretty much killed my interest even though it was an engaging read. Even with a female Robin, a Batman/Robin or Batman/Former!Robin pairing just creeps the hell out of me.

And to keep this from being a mostly pointless Necro.

Some oldies but goodies and so far there is a distinct lack of Marvel in this thread.

What ever happened to The Shocker Legit? It was in my favorites on ff.net and now it is gone... Did the author take it down?

Yes, it was taken down so that the writer could try to sell it to Marvel as an actual comic.

Oh. Darn.

I only have up to chapter 32 of it, which is about right before the finale.

*mutter* Knew I should have kept my files updated...

Well, best of luck to Vank. Hope he pitches it successfully.

And to not make this off topic:

A Canary in Coal Country:
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2411600/1/A_Ca...in_Coal_Country
Lady Shiva / Black Canary. Someone's killing sensei's students. Shiva searches out Canary to warn her.

Just A Face on the Train:
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2093771/1/Just_a_Face_On_a_Train
How exactly did those on the train respond to Spider Man being unmasked? Four months later, he crosses paths with them.

The Darkholme Legacy:
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2061435/1/The_Darkholme_Legacy
Rogue-centric. Movie verse divergence. Rogue finds her own path after the statue of liberty ordeal.

Of these, I'd say the best written is the second. It's poignant and it's something that's conceivably realistic in that verse and fits into the whole teeth-rotting endings of Spider Man 2 and 3 but in a much quieter manner.

I'm a fan of Rogue so it's nice to see a fairly long story around her and featuring her growth as a character in starting to control her powers, maturity, and just strength of self / confidence. It's especially nice since in the movies, Rogue basically drops off the radar after the first movie. I don't quite like Logan but at least here, the build-up to a romance is believable and fraught with issues. As I'm not a big fan of romance (not because of romance per se, but more because of generally bad execution), this type suits my taste just fine. Mostly gen with a slight hint of romance.

Canary is just something fluffy and fun -- or as fluffy and fun it can be with one of the main characters a top-notch assassin.

Civil War Hulk by Michael Weyer

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3818592/

As you can probably guess this asks the question of what would happen if the Hulk returned from exile a bit earlier. It also has certain modifications that worked quite well.

For OLD X-Men fans, there are a couple of authors that should be checked out:

Minisinoo (alternate universes based on X-Men; interesting take on Cyclops)
http://www.themedicinewheel.net/series.html

and Lelia Burke (stories on the First Class, a bit AU)
http://www.themedicinewheel.net/Burke/l_burke.html

The X-Men stories are fairly old, but they are definitely worth a look. Minisinoo even has an X-Men/Harry Potter crossover 'The Room with a Computer'.

For the DCers, an AU future Justice League(Batman primarily) trilogy by JC Roberts

That fic was in the general forums recommendations list from a while back.

I know that because around 3 days ago I got the urge to track the fic down and reread it.

Its just so... awesome isn't the right word. Poignant? Final? What I could see happening if Calvin was able to grow older?

The word I would use is: Right.

Because I truly think, based on the way he wrote and the author's notes he gave in one of the books, that Bill Watterson would approve if he read it.
