1) How does H!Makoto know about Hichigo, let alone his dialogue?

2) This was iiiiinteresting.

3) Can Inner Hollows use Kido? Wouldn't it be Cero or something?

4) I kind of like how H! Makoto's calling Makoto a 'Scrappy', even though he's wrong about how Makoto's not the hero. Makoto's the Protagonist of his own story. Regardless of how many tales he winds up tied up in and connected to, no matter what people might think, as long as he knows Right from Wrong and follows his beliefs, he's still a hero. Maybe not the Legend that Ichigo will become, or the Demon that Kenpachi is, or even the Leader that Yamamoto is. But that's okay. He's not them. He is Makoto Kikanuma. And he will be whatever he wants to be.

Hmm . . . the only idea I've had is to draw a contrast with Ichigo and Makoto's experiences and tendencies - Ichigo has usually been a rapid switch from human to shinigami, weak to strong, Hollowfication, et al. Makoto, on the other hand, is much less about power and much more about control - of himself, of his Aizenification, and so on.

So to draw on that, I'd suggest Makoto's inner battle is played out with absolutely no loss of control in his outer form. He just stands there with a strange smile on his face, and as his form becomes more like a Hollow, the expression doesn't change, but the smile that was merely a goofy grin becomes downright creepy when seen in conjunction with his eyes changing and his mask forming.

And it's only when the transformation is complete that we'll see whether he's become the grinning teenager or the hungry monster.

EDIT: On an unrelated note, I feel that Hollow!Makoto should be far more theatrical and far less Ichigo-like. More like Lelouch or Light - oratory, philosophical, full of whimsy and violence in equal measure. He and Makoto could turn the trope on it's head by not fighting, but engaging in a debate - which Makoto then wins.

Well, H!Makoto is still a Hollow. He'd still be violent and eager to consume souls. It just wouldn't seem right for there to not be a fight. The main difference is that Makoto fights with his words just as much as he does his kido and swordplay, where for Ichigo words aren't as big of weapons.

I do like how there's no loss of control on the outside. It's a good contrast.

@Shaderic: Well, Ichigo's Inner Hollow can use shikai and bankai. Therefore, it seems logical that Inner Hollows have access to all the powers of their Shinigami. H!Makoto, however, is a lot more adept at using kido.

I had the idea that Makoto uses his shikai in conjunction with his kido to allow him to cast kido spells with only a word and yet they're still very powerful. Basically the idea is that the words of the spell form the intent and tell your reiatsu what to do, but if you can visualize and will what the reiatsu is supposed to do, then you can bypass the incantation if you have enough focus and willpower. Makoto's illusions are formed by his intent, and by forming "illusions" of kido, he can make them real by focusing his reiatsu in the proper manner to use them.

Interesting of course, but I would take out the quote about his Hollow having any extra knowledge about Ichigo's unless that's a big plot point later on. The idea about illusions of kido is also imaginative. Another note is how his Hollow can appear so easily when Kyougetsu is the dominant aspect and Makoto hasn't even formed the mask yet.

On an unrelated note, I feel that Hollow!Makoto should be far more theatrical and far less Ichigo-like. More like Lelouch or Light - oratory, philosophical, full of whimsy and violence in equal measure. He and Makoto could turn the trope on it's head by not fighting, but engaging in a debate - which Makoto then wins.
I can see the Hollow as either a sick genius that puts his mind to completely beating the enemy in every aspect or the complete opposite of Makoto. Where Makoto uses tricks and strategy to win the Hollow is only interested in killing as many people as it can in the most efficient manner.

I'm wondering if I should have Makoto gain an Inner Hollow at all. I mean, it'd be interesting but that's more of Ichigo's thing.

On the other hand...

"C'mere pipsqueak." Hichigo said with a leer. "You might make for a decent meal but I really doubt it!"

"Wow, I didn't know you swung that way," Hakoto replied with a smirk.

"What?! Fuck no, that's not what I was-!"

"Inner Hollow? More like Inner FAG!"

"Fuck you pal! I'm the real reason my pussy of a King has so many bitches after him-!"

"And women like gay men, you're not selling a strong defense here!" Hakoto cackled.

"That's it you bastard, time to die!"

The two Hollows began fighting furiously thanks to the reiatsu link between their hosts. On the outside...

"Urgh... Ichigo? I'm getting a headache..."

The orange haired Shinigami grimaced and held his head as well.

"Me too..."

Rukia looked between them, confused. "What were you two doing?"

"Training," Makoto said. Ichigo scowled at Rukia.

"And I swear, if you think that means something else, I'm punishing you big time!"

Rukia huffed. "As if! Makoto's not bishie enough to be an uke!"

"Huh?!" Makoto asked in disbelief, scooting a good distance away from Ichigo. "I-I'm not like that!"

"I never said you were," Rukia sniffed. She then looked thoughtful. "On the other hand, that doujin Nemu-chan made sold really well-"

"WHAT DOUJIN?!" Makoto and Ichigo bellowed.

In another part of the mental battlefield, Zangetsu and Kyougetsu had tea and watched the Hollows insult and fight eachther.

"Eh, kids," Zangetsu grumbled.

"Indeed," Kyougetsu chuckled. "Lemon cookie?"

"Please."

If you use it you could come up with a reason why neither inner hollow is interested in having a name when the arrancar do. I'm not sure if it would be a good idea because it follows the constant power race in Bleach. First everyone needs to be able to beat up hollows to count, then they need bankai, then they need shinigami/hollow hybrid powers.

Good point.

Hmmm... Maybe I should just do a fun little arc where Soul Society finds out about Makoto, and take him in, and he escapes and causes all sorts of chaos during his escape.

For instance:

He hypnotizes Kenpachi into thinking he's fighting Ichigo at his full power, and does the same for a few other members of the Eleventh.

He projects the illusion of Ichigo banging Rukia and Rukia happily telling Byakuya they were getting married and she was pregnant (this causes almost as much damage as Kenpachi's fights with "ichigo").

And a few other random illusions he manages before Unohana calmly snatches his sword out of his hand and asks him to come with her. What do you think?

Who would Zaraki fight? If it's anyone but thin air I'd feel sorry for them. I don't really dislike the idea of a comedic arc or an action/drama arc, Bleach has the potential for both. If Makoto did go ahead with his games that would probably split opinion about him even further between those that see him as apocalyptic threat mk. 2 and those who think he knows how to have a good time.

If Makoto has an Inner Hollow, his should be representative of his hidden truth/fear, same as Ichigo. Where Hichigo, when you think about it, is the embodiment of the part of Ichigo that loves to fight simply for the sake of fighting, Makoto's Inner Hollow would be the embodiment of his lack of a unique identity. Everyone who looks at him, at least as far as he thinks, is looking at him merely as a version of something else. A version of Aizen. A lesser Ichigo. A Japanese high school student, the same as millions of others. An enemy to be killed. An ally to be defended. An asset to be used. But nobody really sees him as a unique being named Makoto. Because the truth is that there is no such thing. Or more accurately, no one such thing. Whichever mask, whichever one of those identities he chooses to use, is his real self at that moment. Until he takes it off and puts on a new one.

The difference between him and Aizen is that Aizen has always had only one true face, and has always been fully aware of the masks he uses to deceive others. For Makoto, there is no difference between mask and face. He himself is an illusion that is so perfect it becomes reality.

But this obviously isn't the sort of thing he would be willing to accept about himself, at least at first.

Which is a good approach, but I'm not sure how to illustrate it. His Hollow takes the form of other people Makoto knows, perhaps?

Would Kyougetsu still have a true form, and if he does would he know what it is?

Maybe he'll reveal his true form when Makoto finally decides to drop the masks. For now though, he takes the form of Aizen.

A faceless person similar to the Question form the DCU. It may also be able to shape the face into others ala Kon from Avatar.

Maybe more Rorschach-like, in that the face it wears is constantly shifting. Even its shape, perhaps. And not instantaneously; its form would visibly flow from one shape and face into the next.

A short little bit.

- - - - - - -

Tousen led Makoto into what the younger Shinigami assumed was his sanctum. Though it could have easily been his lab or hell, even his disco. He had no idea what to make of it, all the big screens on the walls in the dark room. Makoto looked at Tousen intently.

I thought he was blind?

Wonderweiss babbled quietly to himself as he walked up beside Tousen. The two of them stared at the wall, and Makoto was left feeling uncomfortable in the silence.

"You are filled with energy," Tousen commented.

"Ah, well... Yeah. I don't like sitting still... Doing nothing," Makoto replied. Tousen nodded.

"You are conflicted... It is very different from your sire," he went on.

"Yeah well, I'm not a megalomaniac," Makoto said, his anxiety rising rather than lowering at this additional mention of Aizen. What the hell did the blind traitor want with him?

"... I am considering many things, and I wanted to know you before I made any decisions," Tousen replied, as though reading Makoto's mind. The younger Shinigami started.

"Huh?"

"Do not be surprised. Aizen is not the only one with skill in reading others," Tousen said. Wonderweiss whined, and Tousen lowered a hand to ruffle his blonde hair affectionately. "You are an open book. You cannot hide anything from me."

Makoto tensed, but decided to fight back the best way he knew how-With sarcasm.

"Well bravo Geordi La Forge, you've established I've got conflict," he snapped back. "What's next, that I want to get out of here? Ooh, do go on, do-!"

Tousen moved, and in the next moment he was standing right in front of Makoto, who stopped short. He glared at the sightless Shinigami-His spiritual power was great, but not as great as Aizen's, and he could withstand that.

Sort of, he amended in his mind. Tousen was silent, before nodding and turning away.

"You can see?" He asked. Makoto blinked.

"Um..." He considered this question. Was it metaphorical? What was he asking? "I... Think so... Depends on what you want me to see."

"Auuu!" Wonderweiss cried. He bobbed his head up and down and looked excited. Tousen nodded, and looked at the wall. It lit up, and Makoto squinted as his eyes adjusted in the dark room. They widened when he saw what was on screen.

Ichigo... Chad... Ishida...! He thought.

"They have come for you," Tousen said. "Aizen will be showing all of us this soon."

"... So why show me now?" Makoto asked.

"To see," Tousen replied simply. The screen vanished, and Makoto sensed another spiritual energy source behind him. He turned, and Sun-Sun was there, looking at him intently.

"Ah... Hey?" Makoto said. He looked at Tousen. "Um... What-?"

"She will escort you to the meeting room," Tousen said. "Do not be late." With that, Tousen vanished into flashstep, and Wonderweiss followed. Makoto blinked, and looked at Sun-Sun.

"... I have no idea what the fuck just happened," he admitted. Sun-Sun raised her sleeve and covered the lower half of her face.

"Is this not a common occurrence with you?" She asked.

Makoto snorted. "Cute. Really." He sighed. "Shall we?"

"Yes..."

Makoto shook his head as he emerged from Tousen's chamber and headed off. Sun-Sun would tell him where to go when he had to. Honestly, the whole thing with the blind Shinigami had been... Confusing and pointless, really. What was he supposed to take from it?

Aizen tested him, Gin tormented him, and Tousen just... Weirded him out. Was there any rhyme or reason to any of them? He wondered if he'd ever find out.

Part of him didn't want to.

I take it Tousen's actions will be explained at a later point? Though I can't say it interests me particularly since Tousen annoys the crap out of me.

This requires the question, who will he face? Sun-sun? Aizen so he can get in another beat down before he does the same to every other character in the universe?

I know it is old news, but I'd like to say my idea for Kyougetsu's shape:
A Raziel(from the Legacy of Kain series)-style Aizen.
Let me tell you why the idea came to my head:
  • Raziel considers himself a better man after becoming... whatever he is than when he was a human. Makoto considers himself better than Aizen even though he is his clone.
  • Raziel is manipulated through the story, actually saying "what sort of sick game is this when all the sides move the same pawn", yet strugles and in the end he plays with them all. Makoto was created from birth to be used as Aizen's pawn and controled by him, yet keeps fighting for being his own self and control his own life.
  • Raziel was turned intothe spiritual being he is and manipulated into become a weapon - litelary, becoming the soul of the complete Soul Reaver. Makoto was created as a tool for Aizen and is being trained to become his weapon.
  • No matter how deep in the hole he is, neither Raziel or Makoto lose their snarkiness.
  • Raziel moves between the physical and the spiritual world. Kyougetsu creates ilusions based in Makoto's mind, making his spirit manipulate the physical realm he is currently is - a spirit in relation to the spirits.
  • As I said, Raziel was a pawn to at least 3 fractions, and manipulated as such, but was able to turn it back on them. Makoto wished to turn the action of one manipulator, Aizen, against him.
  • Even though a game with fighting, LoK games had many puzzles and mental chalenges. Makoto knows how to fight, but does so much better by using his mind while doing so.
And it is related to both Aizen and Makoto's hobbies.
