Restricted Section Post Blank-outs

I have run into the issue that any post in the Restricted Section that is lemon-ish in content is blanked out, displaying no actual text.

Shorter, non-story posts, display just fine, usually commentary to the R-section posts.

Furthermore, quoting the blanked-out text in question, then hitting Preview displays the content of the post just fine (though it makes for difficult reading).

Is there any way to deal with this?

sigh.

This was mentioned in one of the other status threads, but I can't blame you for bringing it up. The technical reason for this is something about the way we imported posts from the old forum. Some invisible characters got mixed in or something. It causes the post on our new TFF to be blank.

The only know way of fixing this (to me), is to have one of the staff come round and manually edit the posts there. This is a rather ... cumbersome process and I'm not sure if anyone is willing to go about it. Now, if you could give links to the posts in question, I'm willing to fix those up, but don't want to commit to cleaning up everything.

Specifically, non standard characters didn't copy properly. Stuff like: “ ” ‘ ’ —

" ' and - were fine but the squinty or fancy versions used by Word didn't copy right.

Originally, they'd show up in posts like this
(but smaller and without the hotlink tag). At some point, posts with the black diamond stopped showing up at all.

This can be fixed badly by clicking edit and then saving. This, however, is not a good way. All the miss copied characters become " no mater that they should have been. Worse, thy show up in the edit window as black diamonds, meaning you can only guess what they should be.

For example, using the edit-save method a post of oTFF which said: “Hi there,” said John‘s mouth — which could speak on its own.

Would become: "Hi there," said John"s mouth " which could speak on its own.

The only real way to fix it properly is to look up the corresponding post on oTFF, click edit/quote (to get the bbcode), copy the post and post that copy into the nTFF post. That or manually correct the black diamonds but it can be hard to guess what they should be.

If someone will compile a list of threads that require editing, I'm willing to reformat them all. I don't have janitorial/mod/admin privledges but I can document them and make them available to modstaff

It's almost every thread from before the transition. I can't recall how many posts we had, but there's potentially a hundred thousand posts that NEED it--story threads and idea threads. Even simply cataloging them isn't anything I'd want just one person to do. Someday we might trawl through the archives, see what we have, and see what we can fix, but it's going to have to be a planned effort.
