Resurrection Fic: Round Two: So Old They Are New!

Renamed due to requests and the implied nature of Zombies.

Anyways, here we are with Resurrection Fic! Where writers take old ideas, and write them up as fics! These never had the chance to fully fully realized, so break out your Phoenix Downs and Potions of Resurrection, it's time to get writing!

The Rules:
-Any idea which was created in 2013 or before is a viable option to resurrect. It can have its own thread, complete with an in depth discussion about the potential consequences and character alterations, or it could be three words in a Misc. Ideas thread. Anything is acceptable as long as it doesn't violate the next rule, which is...

-No reviving dead fics. That means that you cannot continue any story that has already had a chapter or two written. Even if you get permission, even if you wrote it yourself, continuing an abandoned fic is off limits.

-As an exception to the above rule, you CAN continue a story that you began during this "Season" of Resurrection Fic.

-Post a link to the original idea. This is mainly to ensure that the idea does exist, and has been dead the requisite amount of time.

-Due date for this round is Sunday, August 24th, at midnight, Central Standard time. That gives everyone about two days, 10 hours, and 45 minutes from now.

-Entries will continue to be accepted up until Friday, August 29th at midnight. Each day late is five points off your final score. Anything after that is considered disqualified, though you can still post it and build off it next week.

-Further rules may be added as we go along. This is the first Season, so I'm sure kinks and porblems will pop up along the way.

Judging:
Currently, I will be the only judge. If anyone else is interested in judging, I would appreciate it, if only to reduce bias and hopefully get more people interested.

Prizes:
The winner of each round gets a Christmas Wish, in the form of a fic request. I will do my best to acquiesce to preferred series/crossover/whatever, but some negotiation might be involved, depending if I've seen it or can access it over netflix/some other free streaming site.

Potential Ideas: By no means is anyone limited to these, but if you're paralyzed into indecision, or just want something to mess with for a few hours here's what we have:

Bleach:
Soi Fon: Pop Star

Kaien Shiba: Back from the Dead(er)

Explaining the Girl in the Closet to Your Girlfriend

Harry Potter:

Fred and George: International Men of Mystery

Timeturners fo EVERYONE!

Guardian Gargoyles

Magical Lyrical Nanoha:
MacGuyver Yuuno

Indiana Scrya

Mages of Earth

Naruto:

Nice!Mizuki

Sasuke's Illegitimate Children

Type Moon:

And just because I saw it again after four years, and still think it could be hilarious:

Darn, I forgot to ask earlier, is it alright if we use an idea we suggested ourselves?

Yes, that is perfectly acceptable, as long as you didn't turn it into a story.

Well, Resurrection Fic here. For Mass Effect, Training Day. Original idea from here, it was supposed to be a more serious work where the Spectres were realistic but I realized that I probably couldn't do it and that it was more fun to parody them.

Apologies on the delay of judging. School just started and I'm trying to get used to getting up at seven in the morning instead of my usual one in the afternoon. I'll try to get this done on Saturday, but again, no promises.

Another part of the issue is I'm not familiar with Mass Effect or Ace Attorney. I know of them, but I haven't had a chance to play them. I don't have time to pick them up and play, but I'll try to do my best.

Sorry, being back in school takes up a lot of my time, especially since I've got a Calculus test in a week and I still need to catch up on two chapters.

I'll try to get it done tomorrow, but again, life takes priority.

Alright, now that Midterms are over I can finally, FINALLY score these.

And then promptly move on to Original fic in two weeks... yay...

First Up: Training Day:

Spelling/Grammar: 20/20
No problems as far as I can see.

Entertainment: 19/20
The idea of an organization being so militaristic they even arm their inanimate objects is humorous. The fact that they didn't bother implementing any form of safety on them is hilarious.

Idea:10/20
The original idea was to have the Spectres be a competent organization, so having it be hilariously incompetent... doesn't really fit. Major points loss for that. Sorry.

Story: 16/20
Not much story to it, but there doesn't really need to be one for crack.

Other: 17/20
Overall, an entertaining one shot. No rave reviews, but probably work a rec or two. Certainly an entertaining way to spend a few minutes. Kind of want to see more about how hilariously incompetent the organization is and the BS Shepard is going to have to put up with along the way,

Total:82/100

The Inverted Turnabout:

Grammar/Spelling: 20/20
No errors that I noticed. I could probably go back and go over it with a fine tooth comb and turn up something, but that would only delay this even more, so good job!

Entertainment: 15/20
Unfortunately, I haven't played the Phoenix Wright games at all, so I didn't really enjoy it all that much. I really couldn't appreciate it. I gave it a C grade because I'm really not qualified to judge this, and it seemed like a,

Idea: 20/20
Seems like you hit every part of the original idea. You had some leeway to mess around with it, but I do like how it turned out.Good work!

Story: 20/20
Even though I haven't played the games, you did good job mentioning factoids that let me follow it pretty well. I also liked how you showed the slight change that led to the setup. Well done.

Other: 17/20
Again, my lack of knowledge kept me from really getting into this, but it seems like it was well done, and I did enjoy it on its own without that experience. I really should get around to playing Ace Attorney at some point.

Total: 92/100 Awesome.

Merlin's Belt

Grammar/Spelling 19/20
A couple odd turns of phrase, one or Not enough to ruin the story, but it did catch my eye. Could just be my personal preferences, so sorry if everyone else thinks it's good.

Idea: 20/20
Makes sense, it was one of yours, after all. Who better to write it than the original author?

Story: 18/20
It was interesting, but felt more like a prologue than anything else. Mainly served as a setup for the main plot of Luna and Rolf getting to know each other, and seeing the wonders of Merlin's Belt. Hope to see more of this at some point.

Entertainment: 17/20
It was interesting, but didn't really draw me in as much as I would have liked. I would definitely have kept reading if there was more, but where it left off, it made me feel like it wasn't complete. Again, I wouldn't say no to continuing the story.

Other: 18/20
Yes, I've said this repeatedly, but it feels like a prologue to the main story. This is a good thing, because it leaves me wanting more, but it's a bad thing, because it leaves me wanting more of what isn't there. One of the perils of writing one chapter at a time. You did a good job of showing a few different magical creatures/events for world building or future adventures. Keep up the good work.

Total:92/100

And the winner is, for those who can't do math...

Glimmervoid and seitora! What are the odds of a tie? Honestly, probably would have been a three way tie if grant hadn't inverted the original idea of his fic. I didn't plan this, and if you guys want, I can flip a coin to determine the "true winner."

Anyways, I'll PM you guys about your Fic Requests, or you can just post them here. Glad this is finally over, and again, apologies all around for taking so god damn long.

Thanks zerohour

were you planning to hold another round, or will that be it?

I was planning on trying one around March. Right now, I want to get Original Fic set up for November. I think part of the reason this didn't go too well was because I rushed it to fill in for Iron Fic this year.

I wasn't planning on holding the first one until March anyways, so I view this as more of a test run to see what needs work.
