As a prank against Ron and the twins, Harry lets loose a tale about the Weasley's secret "Red Grimorum". The true reason why for the past several generations, the Weasley's have had large families, even though they usually take pureblood mates.

What are some of the reactions amongst the other pureblood lines that have problems with fertility.

Cue the Death Eaters torturing the Weaselys and Harry killing himself due to guilt.

I'm assuming when you rolled for intelligence for that post that it was a low number?

No. Upon realising that the Weasley's hold the secret of fertility, the absence of whch gives muggles the advantage of number, they would do everything in their power to get it. They would torture all the Weasleys they could find. As thier definition of trture is repeatedly cast cruciatus all captured Weasleys would be insane. Upon finding out why they were targeted Harry would know that he was to blame. He would likely have another emo moment and kill himself due to the overwhelming guilt.

but hopefully not before taking out every death eater in sight.

if this was done as a crack fic i could see every pure blooded girl in hogwarts trying to get in Ron's pants.

he would be walking down the hall and suddenly Daphine greengrass pulls him into a broom closet

zeebee...your adding too much work. Especially when the Death Eaters wouldn't have to do any work. Hell, there is no indication that Death Eaters are even worried about fertility rates amongst Purebloods.

Your forgetting that these are fanatics that already have their answer to their questions.

It would be more likely that someone at the Ministry would hear these rumors and try to acquire the Red Grimorium for their own ends.

As for the fertility part...the way that Harry implies it isn't that the "Red Gremorium" is not a book with fertility spells/potions. But something like the Kama Sutra on steroids.

The Weasley males convince their often pureblood mates to have more than the standard amount of children (few pureblood families seem to have more than two children). This would imply that the Weasley's have some magical way to get a woman interested in having lots of children. The reason for Harry spreading this kind of rumor is...their isn't anything like this at the Weasley's house.

I got this notion from what Draco said to Ron from the first book, that it wasn't uncommon for Weasley's to have a big family.

Draco glanced over at Ron. His lip curled. ôNo need to ask who you are. My father told me all the Weasleys have red hair, freckles, and more children than they can afford.ö

ôI donÆt have any children yet,ö Ron replied amiably. "Are you offering to help me fix that?"

Malfoy's face went red with anger. "I'm a guy, you moron! Guys don't have babies with guys!"

Ron shrugged and reached out, his wand (which Draco hadn't even seen him draw) tapping the other pureblood on the forehead. "Judging by your carefully tended hair, you want to be a girl," he teased. "Fortunately, we Weasleys have a spell to fix that problem... why do you think we have such big families?"

... Draco leaves not only the compartment, but, after closing the door with due diligence, went to the other end of the train. Harry looked at Ron, and asked in a whisper: "Really? Does your family have such a spell?" Ron looked around, and seeing nobody else answered: "No, but my brothers told me the story would be great against brats like him."

Cheers, yamaban

Why not use the "Red Grimoire" in the opposite manner...

The Weasley family, having been betrayed in the past (which caused their family to lose their wealth), performed a ritual to reduce the fertility and number of magical children born to their betrayers. Thus, the pureblood families which usually produced 3-4 children on average suddenly began only producing 1 or 2 with any additional children being squibs. This has resulted in the continual decline in the number of purebloods while the Weasleys remain prolific. Considering the way their current society and laws are slanted, the Weasleys would expect to eventually become the most powerful wizarding family and ultimately the only purebloods left.
