Already looking forward to Act 5 for Makoto. Jupiter was always my favorite for whatever reason.
I like her too, she's got the most talent out of them.

First and third Saturdays of the month, I'm thinking.

What's the general consensus on the Sailor Moon reboot? I never watched the original, and I never got in to the magical girl genre. Should I wait for them to be dubbed (hopefully the dub will be better than the original) or should I watch them subbed? Streaming the subbed episodes is free on VIZ's official website.

If you never got into the Magical Girl genre, then this isn't the anime for you.

However, if you are really curious about it, then I guess watching this one would be a good gateway to the genre. This is more faithful to the manga, has a more modern feel to it (since you never watched the original, this shouldn't surprise you), and has beautifully drawn characters.

The cons are Usagi's VA (which, as I have learned, is the same one as the original) uses a pretty scratchy voice that sometimes is dreadful to hear, especially when Usagi screams or cries. Battles are short, and the transformation sequences are long. Finally, you have to wait at least 2 weeks for a new episode.

The subs are also stupid sometimes. The monsters are just called Evil in those times and we have lines like "Cat can talk?!".

There's something I don't like about the character design. Mostly, the faces. They're far too angular, and the mouths look downright weird.

Personal Opinion here

They flubbed by not having the band do a new recording of the original OP music. Cutey Honey's OP music is iconic and has been redone for each new series, same thing with SM's OP music.

23 Minutes is really too short a time frame for the episodes to really build the elements of each episode, imagine if they were hour long.

If each of these episodes were an hour long they would have been loaded with filler and the entire point of this new series is to have an animated SM that sticks very very close to the manga.

The original manga is in the low 50's as far as chapter count goes. That's for the ENTIRE THING.

The original anime, all seasons put together, was like 200 episodes.

That's a filler percentage that makes Dragon Ball Z look thin.

The episode introducing Makoto has aired. It's still good.

Finally got around to watching the first episode, animation is definitely WORLDS better than the original TV show but that's to be expected (but now where are we going to derive a bunch of gifs to spam endlessly on internet forums?). Looking at the list of episode names as well I see they're doing them at the same rate as the manga, one episode per act. I wouldn't mind a bit of filler as long as it's new material and not rehashing the original anime's filler, but nothing more than maybe 20% of the canon content.

Probably gonna watch an episode a night I guess.

Just finished watching Act Six.

Well, after watching the second episode, while the animation is much improved upon the original, some of the character's heads just distract me too much. Ami's hairstyle just seems kind of awkward, and her chin waaaay too pointed, but that may just be me.

Also, 13:45, I see Luna's reaction as the first reaction.gif of the show?

16:02, ninjakitty Luna!

Yeah the animation is improved but there is something off about it, some of the animation is cheap, the way things are done, and yes something about the heads has been bugging me.

It seems like there is something missing from the show though?

Anyway it will be interesting how they handle the darker parts of this series. Heck I almost dread seeing how they come out.

Also I don't like beryls new throne room it's nothing like that in the manga or original TV series.

Act seven is out.

Does anyone else think they might stop with the defeat of the Dark Kingdom, and debut a new series next year called Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal Revenge?

Act eight. Cliffhanger much.

I'm really hoping that
leaving the four kings alive
is going to have a payoff more substantial than simply an expanded final battle as is expected.

That's farther in the manga than I ever read, and tbh my memory/knowledge of the first anime series is ... "flawed" is probably the kindest description.

I'm not even sure what happened to those guys. I think I heard they were killed but Mamoru still has access to some kind of objects that represent their souls, so he still has them as advisers? Freaky as that sounds. That's apparently who they were in the Silver Millennium as it is, Endymion's lieutenants/advisers, but Beryl or Metallia corrupted them.

Any truth in the above?

That's basically how it goes in the comic. After the others died from being killed, they get their memories back when the Ginzuishou appears and they're briefly revived by Kunzite, then die and turn into stones.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7q-rU8s9HCY - so, apparently this show sucks, but not enough to not have this second season. Or at least, nobody has had anything to say so far.

What about explaining to me why the 9-year-old girl has lipstick on?

"Because... reasons. Yeah, reasons. Don't ask questions like that! Just be wowed at the pretty art style and the cute girls! Pay no attention the small stuff!" - The producers.

The show sucks? I was under the impression it was the exact opposite...

It's what a hardcore fan and contact of mine has to say.

Mostly the parts about how everyone's actions lost value, the Shitenoh didn't die only so they could be killed for FEELS~, and Venus lost her big moment and Sailor Moon didn't even do it right. And such great animation as Slenderman Mamoru.

Now people are really skeptical about it following up on this next saga... well, when they aren't the type who'll think it's amazing because it has less filler and all.

I haven't seen the last two episodes because when I went to view the first, the place I view it had a version that was pure Japanese without any subtitles. Clearly that's an error but I didn't bother looking again. That doesn't mean I had disliked what I did see though, in fact I was fairly positive about it, or at least not in any way negative.
