Hopefully, it doesn't go the way of the comic, which ended with Jack just giving up on finding a way back to the past, and he became what we saw in the season 3 episode where he gets crushed by the Time Gate Guardian. I'm of the opinion that if Jack where to find a way back to the past, he'd defeat Aku in the future first before defeating him in the past.
