Bleach Shinigami Troopers

"Come on you worthless bastards! Move it! We drop in two, and by Kami, EVERYONE drops! Move!" Abarai Renji, Lieutenant, 6th Division, bellowed at the fifty or so Shinigami hurrying into the portal that would take them to Hueco Mundo.

"Lieutenant. How are the troops doing?" A calm voice inquired from behind Renji.

"Sir! First through fifth squads are loaded up and ready to move on your command!"

"Good. Have you checked their wings?"

"Yessir."

"Good. Hurry, Yamamoto-sama wants us back within the hour."

"Yessir."

As Renji strapped into his own set of glide wings and made sure his Zanpakto was attached firmly, Byakuya opened his communicator. "6th Division strike force, ready to drop."

"Will do, onii-sama! Don't forget, nee-chan's making your favorite beef nabe tonight! Don't be late!" Chirped an unmistakable voice, somehow managing to be loud enough through the earpiece to be heard by every Shinigami in the portal room. Byakuya scowled faintly as snickers were heard around the room. "Kuchki's Kommandos, ready to drop!"

As the portal opened, Renji and Byakuya led the charge through the portal, jumping through and gliding out the other end into a barrage of ceros. Renji drew his Zanpakto. "Come on you apes! You wanna live forever?"

The responding chorus of "Hell no!" was almost drowned out by the whistling of fifty Zanpakto being unsheathed and the howling of fifty Shinigami drop gliders diving towards the largest concentration of Hollows, spitting spirit flares and pre-charged Kido along the way.

Bleach, Starship Troopers style. Like it? Hate it?

Perhaps having Zanpakuto manifest as armor rather than weapons.

The biggest problem is that they'd be undeployable due to the mass destruction that Cap Troopers tend to leave in their wake.

Eh, I just wanted to write a Shinigami attack, Starship Troopers style. Didn't really mean it as anything serious, as you could probably tell by Bridge Bunny Rukia...

Now why do I see the 'Bunny' part of 'Bridge Bunny' applying REALLY well to her?

I read a book called Starship Troopers but it was an acting troope heading out to space to put on plays and stuff, and it was the first in a trilogy but I only read the first one.

Amazing how a old Saturday morning cartoon is more accurate to the source material than an entire trilogy of bad movies and computer games were.

There has been a petition for a movie to complete Roughnecks as the series never reached a conclusion.

Because I may be interested in furthering something along the lines of this idea, except more seriously and without so much patchworking...

Zanpakto for Shinigami Troopers: It might be interesting for Shinigami in this world to use Yumi bows, while the Quincy are the ones using swords. Could anyone else see Komamura summoning a massive battery of siege ballista as his Bankai?

Drop Capsules: I'm inclined to stick with the hang gliders with pre-charged Kido. Anyone else have any ideas?

Soul Society assault: obviously, with different Shinigami tactics, we're going to see very different outcomes here. Ichigo and crew sneaking in, instead of coming in via cannonball? Triple match, with Ichigo, Uryu, and Chad taking on Zaraki (gonna need a new name, Kenpachi doesn't exactly fit someone using bows...Ite, maybe?), Ikkaku, and Yumichika?
