Shokugeki no Souma

This seems to be the kind of arc you would be better off reading in one sitting.

Reading this suggests that I'm better off just continuing to read the manga like I have been and skipping the anime.

The anime adaptation isn't really bad but they have scrambled the order of events if not outright skipped or relegated parts to OVAs and other such stuff. You can just find clips of big moments on YT and download the OPs and EDs and that's all you really need.

Though if you do watch the anime, just watch the first season and pretend the other two don't exist.

That's... not an endorsement.

I do like some of the clips I've seen on YT, but I'm not a fan of the English dub voice acting - so the only ones I watch are in Japanese.

I don't want to bullshit you, you know? The first season is very strong production wise and it's clear they knew they had 24 eps from the beginning but there are a few pacing concerns since season 1 ends right after the tourney arc begins. There was some set-up parts to Souma's match with Alice that was either a special episode bundled with the manga, an OVA or something because it just got excised. The awkward way the first season ended also kicked an important plot point into the ether until fished out of the soup at the start of season 2.

The voice acting in the sub is superb and when they actually do stuff it's kind of neat but there are a lot of One Piece style slow panning shots and such to eat run time like a motherfucker. The animation for the foodgasm spots are awesome too. But there's the way they had to adapt it, such as the first meeting with the rest of the Elite 10 being relegated to an OVA which basically leaves the first five minutes of season 3 being an awkward recap for people who might have missed it. It speeds through content at times, feeling rushed while also going nowhere and by the end of the second cour of season 3. you can hear the plot snapping as they draaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag it out so as to not adapt too much and save some for season 4.

It's okay but it's not like you'll die if you don't see it. I want to give the anime a huge stamp of approval but I don't want to be responsible if you come out the other end feeling kind of gypped. The third season also mirrors the first as it stops at the start of the big event too. I'll admit I'm hyper critical and super negative but if you can stomach a little awkward pacing then you could probably blaze through everything without thinking about it.

New chapter is up in Mangastream.

At least the Elite Ten get an exam that makes them sweat for it.

Well, things looked a little rocky for the Elite Ten, but it seems they pulled through. Now to see if they can deliver during the last day.

And no one has any idea that Erina has vanished...not good.

Pretty much.

Honestly, I'm more surprised that there were enough beach goers at all.

I'd imagine they pulled from all over the area, especially seeing an entire beach of people vanishing into the same spot

Suzuki has finally thrown down the gauntlet.

And Jouchirou finally found his way back to Souma. Heh, bet Souma is going to be pissed off to the limit when he finds out Suzuki actually managed a win against Jouchirou.

Some more father and son bonding. Souma is definitely fired up about the coming Blue thing.

Souma's actually gonna make it to Blue unlike his pop.

Guess that means he's gonna beat Asahi, unlike his pop

Well, the Blue has officially started, and already Suzuki has pulled ahead, based on his history against other chefs apparently.

...there's something seriously bugging me about that Bookkeeper. Not just 'cause they're not showing their face.

*shakes his head* Geez, giving the Noir a free pass like that...

Souma's reaction is interesting to me. I wonder what about the judge pissed him off.

Probably something dumb, like how he isn't about to die or anything.

Well, Souma muddled on through, somewhat, but man, that was a pretty impressive gambit on his part.

...and it seems like the bookkeeper isn't Azami. Interesting.
