It's been years since I've cared about The Simpsons, but apparently the writers are trying to gin up some more viewers by suggesting that they are going to kill someone off shortly.

Simpsons executive producer Al Jean revealed that a character will be killed off in the show’s current 25th season.

One of the characters in Fox's animated TV series The Simpsons is to be killed off during the show’s 25th season, which began airing on Sunday.

While Simpsons executive producer Al Jean would not reveal who the character would be, he gave a clue to Canada’s Sun News earlier this week:

"I'll give you a clue that the actor playing the character won an Emmy for playing that character, but I won't say who it is."

Who do you think it is? There is a poll in the linked article that lists all of the characters that meet the stated criteria. Or do you think we're just being trolled? My guess is Sideshow Bob.

I heard about this while listening to the radio on my way to work. Apparently it's been guaranteed so far that the Simpson family is safe along with the Flanders', Krusty, Principal Skinner, Moe, and Smithers.

give him an absolutely PERFECT day, have him proclaim "Everything's coming up Milhouse!" and then five seconds later he gets hit by a car or something

Too obvious, Ned's wife was very surpresive no one saw it coming. Maybe someone rising like 50 or 60 death flags just to see any other character dying for one unrelated reason

What's funny is, I've stumbled across a Simpsons poster once, where I learned Ned's wife had died due to her being a ghost in her part of the poster. Then some time later, I was hanging out with my best friend, and The Simpsons came on. The moment I saw Ned's wife come out at the baseball game, I knew this was where she was going to die.

Nascar, baseball... All I remember clearly was that she was killed by a T-Shirt cannon knocking her off the bleachers.

From what I've heard, when the voice actor of a specific character dies, that character is retired and made into a background character. It happended with Troy McClure and the various other characters that were voiced by that Voice Actor.
