Slayers questions

Just a few questions I had about the Slayers:

1) I've been reading quite a few fics where Zelas is the weakest of the Five Retainers. Is there any canon proof for this? Given that Xellos himself is easily a match for Lina and co.; it would seem that Greater Beast is actually among the stronger Retainers.

2) Where's this "Zelas and Deep-Sea hate each other" thing coming from? I've seen it quite a few times in fics.

3) Is it just me, or is the "Knight of Ceifeed" thing overhyped? Lina has been attacked by Fibrizo, Garv and Dynast; and Ruby-Eye himself has been reborn twice; yet Luna's content to twiddle her thumbs back in Zefilia.

4) Where does that bloody Xellos/Fillia pairing come from?!

1) don't remeber this one off hand.

2) it's been mentioned by characters in the manga (can't speak for the original novels though) so i can only assume it's true canon relationship.

3) why is it overhyped? it's just a title, Luna is just implied to be scary enough that Lina rather face off with the demon lords then deal with a angry version of her.

4) where do most fanon pairs come from... fanboi's

IIRC, Luna is said to be as powerful as Xellos. Lina has faced a shard of Ruby-Eye, Dynast Grausherra, Hellmaster Fibrizo and Chaos Dragon Garv. I suppose it just pisses me off that Luna is portrayed as this invincible figure who tells off Lina for casting Giga Slave (I've seen this tons of times in fanfics), considering that Shabranigdu or his Retainers could easily beat the snot out of Luna if they wanted to.

As for Zelas and Dolphin, it just doesn't make sense. As I recall, they show up in the light novels side by side and there's no mutual antagonism between them.

Gaav was the weakest of the five Greater Mazoku, and Hellmaster was the strongest. I don't think the relative strengths of the other three were ever mentioned. Xelloss is indisputably the strongest of the Mazoku in the next tier down.

Admittedly this isn't quite logical, but I think the Xellos/Filia pairing comes from the fact that Filia is the only one to ever draw such strong reactions from Xellos. Think about it for a while. It is certainly true, but I would personally ascribe it more to her being a servant of the Shinzoku, and him being a Mazoku than love.

Personally I find Lina/Xellos more plausible. I admit to not like the Lina/Gourry pairing, even if there is obvious affection between them. I much prefer Gourry/Sylphiel.

Actually Xellos's strength is not really a indicator of how strong Zelas is in comparison to her pears. Xellos is without doubt probably the 6th strongest Mazuko (not counting Ruby Eye) on that shaft. This is mainly because Zelas consolidated her power as both a 'priest' and a 'general' into one being, Xellos, rather than have them as seperate Mazuko like the other lords IIRC. In any case while Xellos is probably a long step down from his 'mother' and her peers, he is at the top of the food chain compared to the rest of the Mazuko lords.

Actually Gaav is supposed to be the second strongest of the Lords, with Zelas as the weakest.

That's what I've heard. I think it comes from the novels, or maybe some of the background stuff they've released, but I don't recall specifically.

1) The way I've heard it, and looked at the charts...

Hellmaster
Gaav
Zelas
Dynast
Dolphin

Of course, Zelas, Dynast and Dolphin are supposedly around the same level of power, so, the point is actually pretty moot there. Dolphin's completely crazy but she's also skittish, for a Mazoku.

But I know that it was stated outright that Gaav was the second strongest one. He was stronger when he wasn't bonded to a human but still...

2) Zelas and Dolphin hating each other? I've heard the opposite, that they were decent friends to each other.

Now, Xellos on the other hand... Well, he doesn't seem to get along with the generals of the other Mazoku lords. Both Dolphin's and Dynast's generals seem to hate him.

3) During TRY, they needed someone who was both of light and darkness to cast that spell. Seeing as Luna has a shard of Cephied in her... She tends to lean towards the light too much. And since Lina's awesome and Luna knows this... Yeah...

4) Throughout the events of TRY, the two went from Filia attacking Xellos on sight to actually able to hold a civil (albeit one with a lot of insults thrown in) conversation with each other.

1. Hellmaster is strongest, everyone else is about equal. Gaav was weakened in the first War of Monster's Fall. Then Gaav and Phibby went and got themselves killed; Dynast was weakened significantly by Lina and Gourry, and has yet to recover. The diagram Kanzaka drew to illustrate the mazoku hierarchy put them in a rectangle with Phibby in the center and everyone else at the corners.

2. No idea. It's complete fanon.

3. Luna is basically Ceipheed's hand. She works on his behalf... and at present he seems to be content to leave everything to mortals like Lina.

4. Opposites attract, didn't you know? :p

Dolphin being insane is complete fanon. She shows up in the last novel quite sane, and rather chummy with Zelas at that. Here: the blonde one is Zelas; long hair is Dolphin.

I thought the implication was that Luna was probably roughly equivalent to Rezo.

IE: she probably possesses at least a portion of Ceipheed's power, and has the upper potential of drawing him directly into battle if she had to. She is also the ONLY source for actual divine magic inside the seal for the first two series.

Thus, NO-ONE wants her involved.
