I got a PM through ffnet last night.

dat PM said:
So I tryed to join the Forum and it said to me my I I.P adress had been blacklisted due to abuse this confuses me as I have never gotten such warning nor been on the site?
Does anybody have any feedback for me? Should I be blowing this dood off as a spammer, or are they an innocent victim that shares an IP address with a spammer (or something), or what?

Well, I'm not the admin so my knowledge may be incomplete, but iirc the only person to ever get an IP ban here was gafgar.

So it's either gafgar, or someone else got IP banned that I don't know about. My guess is that you should probably ask Wata/Ero what all IPs are blacklisted, who they belonged to, and why.

Probably should also look at the ffnet account itself, how old it is, whether it has stories, reviews, favorites, or what.

tl;dr: we don't have enough information to tell you one way or another.

Yeah that was the first thing I did, it looks legit.

I might just end up writing back asking for more info, like if they can copypaste the entire message they got back.

Anyway I've sent those two a PM, so we'll see what happens.

Could be an ip range ban? I don't know if the site inherits any bans on blocks of IPs from icyboards or not

From experience, it's weird but it happens sometimes.

There have been like... four times when I have tried to join forums but couldn't because my IP address had been banned. This despite me never even having an account on those forums.

I usually ended up switching it to be able to join.

I'm beginning to wonder if IP bans are only effective as a temporary measure ...

Well, technically, they are. That's why you don't rely solely on them.

For example, I use between 5-6 different IPs. School, work, home (recently changed because I changed internet providers), parent's, cafe, mobile.

Because of the size of my college, my IP could be one of a shitload of IPs when I'm on it (They're running out of space on IPv6, to put that in perspective), and all I have to do for my home connection is a quick call to my internet provider and they'll give me a new IP.

EDIT: Actually, that's a good point. It might be an icyboards/DDoS system IP ban. We definitely inherit those.

I'm pretty sure I unbanned Gafgar, too.

Good lord, why?! And why isn't it in the mod reports?

Like... dude, what the hell.

Gafgar really didn't do anything that warranted a ban. He just said he was tired of being here, set his status to away and left. Considering how others left, that was pretty tame.

No, he didn't. He made a smurf account on icyboards and told spork a (the icyboards admin) a bunch of bullshit to try and get nTFF deleted permanently, even claiming shit that could get people arrested. He got his ass permabanned for it, no chance of appeal.

He's a first class scumbag, and quite frankly I'm kinda pissed Ero secretly reverted a permaban on someone. I can't even comprehend why he would think that's a good idea.

Okay, that I didn't know. I was just basing what I said on what I saw on this board. My bad.

EDIT: Also, it's Ero. Ever since he became an admin, he's had a bad reputation of doing that sort of stuff.

This. Seriously mate, while I have my own reservations, you should have made a mention of it in the reports. <_< Admin-level authority would have sufficed, too, I think.

I have a similar problem. I can't post at all (I'm not even sure if this post will go through since I'm using my phone). My ip is blacklisted apparently since i use a vpn to post and as I'm behind the great firewall I need said vpn to access this site at all.

If this post goes through, yay, but I can't use my phone all the time.

Well that worked (and hi, been a while), but unfortunately the VPN thing is entirely out of our hands. :(

Umm... seriously? TFF is blocked by the Great Firewall ? I had no idea we held such opposing views that they felt the need to censor us. :hmm:

If you are using a paid VPN, can you try to route your traffic via another server? For example I use a VPN too (for Netflix) and usually connect to a server in New York, but that gets busy at times and I use Washington instead.

More than likely icyboards is blocked, as part of probably a huge blocklist of pretty much all forums.

And yeah, you would need to talk to icyboards about dat vpn ip ban.

They block sites randomly. Some work, some are throttled to death and other outright banned.

Tff falls into the second category I guess.

It's more than likely the forum has been getting hit by span and auto blocked the IP address you are using.
:huh.:  try logging in without your VPN and see how you go.
BTW don't bother with TOR at all it is blocked at domain level and Spork ain't undoing it due to spam.
