Spider Queen Continued

I had to admit that I really liked Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy: Wrath of the Spider Queen, but it felt a little rushed. Then I got to thinking about the scythe used in the flashback scenes. The highly ornamental scythe with a skull on it that seemed to be made just for Grim even if the title for "reaper" was still up for election. One that only responded with any kind of supernatural powers when Grim himself wielded it against Bogey.

That spawned this idea... what if the election was all a ruse? What if the faculty had intended to rig the election for Grim if he hadn't have won on his own, because he was used to create it? What if the 'prototype' scythe was actually Grim's Zanpakuto?

The basic premise is that the Underworld governing body that appointed Grim as reaper had somehow made contact with the world of Bleach some time ago and accidentally allowed humans to evolve and infest the Grim Adventures Earth during their breaching of the two worlds. This left a foreign species, man, dying on GA Earth with nowhere for their souls to go and nothing to collect them. the solution, ask Soul Society for help in creating their own version of a Shinigami to deal with the problem. The result was Grim, the the one destined to become the reaper no matter what from the beginning.

I figure at least part of it will come out as Velma decides to try to conquer the world as a back-up plan at the end of the movie. Grim, as the gatekeeper between the world of the living and the underworld, would be forced to try to stop her. Of course his normal scythe, one shown before as a device that needs to be recharged, is just a proxy scythe used to partially seal Grim's full powers on Earth. If fact it's charged by leaving it in the presence of the true scythe to absorb a bit of the true scythe's latent reiatsu. Now, to stop Velma and a whole planet of spiders, Grim will have to suck it up and summon his true scythe, the Reaper's Scythe, his Zanpakuto.

At least that's how I see the start of things. So how does that sound? Interesting enough to pursue?

i like the idea...the execution would be extremely hard though

Well, the execution would be tricky I admit, but the key factor is the goofy Grim we normally see is Grim as he prefers to behave while sealed up the wazoo. Since there's fewer human on GA Earth, they only really need one reaper, at least by the estimation of the powers that be, but he has to be somewhere near captain or vice-captain level at least to counter any major threat since he's the only line of defense. Since there's no reason to risk Grim normally wielding on that scale, they keep him sealed. Things that would push him to actually call his true scythe, never mind going shikai or bankai with it, are so rare that it's more dangerous for him to work at full power all the time than any threat we ever see in Grim Adventures could hope to become.

Actually, when you think about it, Velma would just be a vehicle to explain Grim's true power level and set things up for a nice side story friend re-connecting piece. Maybe even a twisted bit of romance much later.

I figure the first main event would be a Menos Grande level Hollow showing up as a result of Grim having to deal with Velma's attack. Maybe along side a flashback of one of the few times Grim had to use his actual power. After all, he was the first and only successful attempt at creating a reaper. There were... failed experiments before him. Ones that did not like the result of the Underworld's tinkering. A basic there here would be the Underworld tinkering with events to keep Grim where they want him. That would explain why his former junior high teacher became the judge to determine who would have custody of Grim in Keeper of the Reaper, and how he somehow supposedly had the authority to strip Grim of his title and powers in the first Grim Adventures movie. The judge is actually one of Grim's official 'handlers' that has been watching over him since he was a little boy that has been attempting to mold Grim into the perfect creature for his job.

In fact, you could set up Grim's entire getting bound to Billy and Mandy as a vehicle to deal with an upsurge of Hollows in and near Endsville that needed long term investigation and attention. Of course Mandy won't like having her world view shaken, or bonehead having more power than even she can comprehend, but that's the way the cookie crumbles. :snigger:

so what is Grim's power level compared to the bleach levels?
If Grim wanted to, he could destroy the SS and everything else at will.

on a similar note would aizen's shikai even work on grim?

That's a hard call. Sealed as normal, Grim would certainly be vulnerable to Aizen's shikai. I'd have to really think about it to determine if Grim in his full shinigami state would be similarly affected. After all, even sealed, Grim shows the ability to warp and change reality at his will, or at least at Mandy's will. With the power of the Reaper's Scythe at his side it would he hard to say just what he's capable of.

And Grim already could do some damage to SS, but he's not a god or the king of the SS. He's kind of the result of a less scrupulous version of some of Kiuske's experiments, possibly with Aizen's imput a hundred thousand years ago. Actually, I think for a plot point, I'll have Grim's father be the one to give baby bonehead to the Underworld government to experiment on in an attempt to curry favor with them. He never seemed to care much about Grim in any flashback that was shown.

Of course, if he really wanted to destroy SS, all he'd really have to do is let Billy loose in therte for a day or so. The whole thing would collapse by then. :snigger:

I think Grim's full power levels are hard to determine, but the upper level of what he would be willing to release would be somewhere around people like Aizen and Ichigo when he goes all out. The irony here would be that Grim lets himself be bossed around like he does because he likes spending time with Billy and Mandy no matter how much he complains about it. At the end of the day, he wanted some friends and they provided him with an opportunity to act as something other than the Grim Reaper, mon.

And now that I think about it, a Bleach cross could explain how Mandy was able to do what looked like a seismic punch of some kind while fighting giant spiders in Wrath of the Spider Queen. Exposure to Grim may be increasing and unlocking her own reiatsu.

So with that added, I ask for any other ideas and suggestions. This will obviously be more serious than Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, but I want to keep the flavor of GA in there as well. I'm certainly not about to turn Grim into some brooding emo or make Billy capable of retaining an intelligent thought. What do you think could be added?

Probably much more violent.

Kenapachi freaking out as Billy goes nuts, well, either that or hero worship until Billy calms down.
Kenpachi would either want to adopt Viking!Billy or convince Yachiru to marry him. Either prospect give me a cold chill.

Honestly, I'm not even sure Aizen would ever meet Grim, except perhaps as flashbacks of the creation of the Reaper's Scythe. The closest thing to a real "villian" here would be the Council of Underworld Affairs for setting up Grim to be their guinea pig for the project when he was a baby. The biggest threats to show up would in fact be the failed earlier experiments.

Although if we establish that Velma and Bogey, at least, understood nothing of how Grim came to his position since they thought the election was legitimate, one has to wonder who in the GA universe was actually in the know?

Is Eris in on the whole thing? Judge Spleen certainly has to be as Grim's handler. What about the scythe inventor, or Dracula, or even Nergil? Who understands the whole situation?

That actually might become a major plot point. Grim has long since known and understood his role as the Reaper and accepted it. I don't see Mandy OR Velma being as forgiving about Grim's blatant exploitation. In some ways the Underworld groomed Grim to be their personal Ikari Shinji so they could use him without fearing his reataliation despite the power he possesses. Velma obviously cared enough about Grim to hold the grude over his cheating for 130,000 years, because there wasn't enough information about the position as Reaper for her to get too worked up over losing it. Mandy sees Grim as both her property and her friend in a twisted way. All three primary characters have shown a willingness to put themselves in peril to rescue one of the others despite the fact they might gain from that loss. When push comes to shove, Mandy would fight for Grim in her own sarcastic and monotone way.

Too crazy to be involved maybe, but she could certainly still know about it. Whatever else Eris might be, she's still a goddess. That speaks for a lot. I'll grant you, Nergal knowing is much more of a long shot, but I still had to throw it out there. In his own ways Nergal is actually pretty powerful in his own right. He's certainly more powerful and frightening than Bogey.

Mandy would CRUSH the underworld rather quickly
To a degree, maybe. She's certainly smarter and meaner than most of the denizens of the Underworld that we see, but we've never seen any of the big bosses there. The highest up the food chain we ever see is Judge Spleen. Who's to say Grim hasn't been shielding Billy and Mandy both from some of the nastier aspects of the Underworld.

Like he told Velma when she was looking into his head, "There are dark places in my mind that nobody should ever see."

I think that the Betty Boop scene the Spider Queen saw might actually be a way to hide a more worrisome memory, such as the one where Grim discovered his how he TRULY came into his place as the Reaper and had to destroy a failed predecessor.

So, how does it sound so far to everyone? Any suggestions? Comments? Criticisms? All the money, all the power, all the FREE CHICKEN?!

This is actually sounding like a pretty good idea. I do like the idea that Grim has been shielding Billy and Mandy from the darker aspects of both the underworld and how he became the reaper.

Though the mention of Mandy being around Grim is granting her powers like Ichigo gave powers to Chad and Orihime brings forth the horrible image of WHAT Mandy's power would be.

I say go for it.

Well, as he has confirmed ruler ship of Asgard and more, actual power could easily be along the lines of the BDZ (Base-Delta-Zero) type ability

I believe he is technically immortal in a way, if he is offed, he just goes back to Asgard and then comes back.

This little scene came into my head this morning after I woke up.

ôOkay Grim. Where are we?ö

ôWell Mandy, dis is æde Soul Society. ItÆs where all æde souls go after dey die in dis universe. 'De note I got from Judge Spleen says ædat de captains of the Gotei 13, æde military here, are supposed to meet us and guide us to æde Central 46 Chambers where æde government leaders are,ö Grim said calmly.

As the trio of Billy, Mandy, and Grim entered the massive fortress city, they saw 13 people waiting for them.

ôGreetings. I am Yamamoto-Genryusai Shigekuni. I am the captain of Division 1 and the commander of the Shinigami forces here. Please, come with us to the Chambers.ö

ôThank you. Now then kids, letÆs get goi-ô

ôCLOWN!!!ö Billy suddenly screamed as he spotted Kurotsuchi Mayuri the captain of Division 12 and unfortunately the object of BillyÆs rage.

Quicker than anyone except Mandy or Grim could have guessed, Billy dashed forward and skidded to a stop in front of the captain. A massive war hammer suddenly appeared in his hands as he ground out, ôYou think youÆre better than me clown? Huh?ö

Captain Kurotsuchi suddenly found himself on the ground wheezing with pain as BillyÆs hammer found its home in the form of MayuriÆs chest. As he tried to reach for the switch that regulated the morphine heÆd injected into his body, he thought to himself, æMental note, dissect the brat as soon as possible to figure out how he got his unnatural strength.Æ

ôWhat was that clown!? Trisect the gnat!? You think youÆre smarter than me now too huh. With your big words and nonsense sentences. Weeelll, I may not be smart but at least I can DANCE!ö

Before he could even think on that random thought and realize that heÆd said his thoughts out loud, Captain Kurotsuchi, resident mad scientist, found that the boy had grabbed his head. æOh dear.Æ

Without further ado, Billy began to smash the unfortunate manÆs head into the ground repeatedly.

ôEh heh, Billy has issues with clowns,ö said Grim weakly.

The other captains of the Gotei 13, meanwhile could only stare in shock as a little boy performed the act of judicious violence on one of their members. Their silence was finally broken when Zaraki Kenpachi, the captain of the 11th Division, said with a grin, ôI like him.ö
