Splitting Uranus and Neptune.

I'm not a big fan of Sailor Neptune. Be it her demeanor, her appearance, or the aforementioned pairing, none of it appeals much to my tastes. (The pairing bothers me because of the whole 'destined' bit, which I've learned I don't like much/at all and prefer to see people who were soulmates once find happiness elsewhere because they aren't usually the same people they once were.)

But... I also don't know enough about the series to have a good idea on how to separate them, be it before or after their awakenings. Just some ideas that would be logical *and* not make Sailor Moon fans cry foul for it.

What would you guys suggest?

Destined? WTF? The only destined couple in the series were Usagi/Mamoru (Who liked each other long before destiny came into play) and Helios/Chibiusa (Again, fell in love before they realized they were destined to be together).

There weren't any inklings Michiru/Haruka were a couple in a past life. They got together in this life because they related to each other in a way outsiders just couldn't understand because of their duty. That's pretty much the big problem with splitting them up. Michiru and Haruka are pretty much yandere for each other because they can't relate as well to others as they do their fellow senshi. Michiru for example once almost let the whole world be destroyed when Haruka's life was in danger because, "A world without Haruka is not a world that should exist."

Can't do it. Don't know why you would even try. They were, arguably, the most stable couple in the series.

I can get hating Usa and Mamoru, mostly because Mamoru is a heel despite being a pretty decent guy, because there are other better alternatives that, sadly, had no chance. Poor Seiya.

Edit: If you had to do it, you would have to kill one of them off AND utilize one of those destined love plot devices or extreme retrograde amnesia to avoid complications. This would still bring outcry and would bog you down. Another option would be to do a total AU but if that is the only ship that you change, it would also piss them off.

You might be able to pull off a Moon Harem without a lot of fuss. You can't please everyone. Someone is bound to cry foul no matter what you choose to do if you decide to split them up.

Like Shiki said, you can't please everyone, but I'll argue you can tell a good story. The two are tertiary characters in the story they have a general back story and a few details. If you start to round them out into full protagonists you can fill in a lot of plot holes with your own details.

If you set up a convincing plot and then follow it through you can pair Hakura with whoever. There's a few fics out there that have one or more of the senshi rejecting their past lives and focusing more on a new future rather than the fated past. Granted a lot of them devolve into petty bashing but if you can stay more 'objective' and true to your plot rather than your premise you can turn out a good story.

I'll give you a couple thoughts I've toyed with. If you take Michriu's total devotion and twist it slowly into something dark it could be an interesting drama. You could take Hakura's flirty attitude and make a comedy where Michriu just gives up. Just like real life, it only takes one really irritating flaw to tank a relationship.

Okay, I let the thread stew for a bit just to get my thoughts straight.

I want to apologize for the wrongest part of the thread (the 'destined' thing), because I had misinformation from supposedly reliable sources. This is what I get for trusting people who say they really do know that much about this series. And unfortunately, not having seen all of S (and *especially* not the episodes dealing with their relationship, or the last half of the series) doesn't help my case either.

But there, point taken, they're just really in love and I'm really unfair at breaking up the most stable couple of the series. I can't help but like Haruka more than the others and not like Michiru, thus why I wanted some ideas/suggestions that wouldn't actually be bashing. (...yeah, maybe I expressed myself poorly about that too. Yes, I don't want to induce negative criticism, but most importantly I don't want to give cause for people to think it's bashing because of the whole 'not liking Michiru' thing.)

As to answer Shiki's point, again: I would try because *I don't like Michiru*. Same answer one could give for 'why would you pair Ranma with anyone other than Akane' or 'why would you pair Ash with anyone other than Misty'. It's a preference, and maybe not a good one, but in this case Michiru simply is the least amusing character. (After evil!Setsuna but I don't plan on writing that unless it's to criticize it so.)

Thanks for everyone's responses. If you want to say more, go ahead.

The big issue is Haruka and Michiru pretty much like each other at first sight, even if Haruka was in denial. Michiru is the reason Haruka became a senshi. She probably wouldn't have picked up the wand if Michiru who at the time was desperately fighting to protect her wasn't in danger. They're origins aren't easy to split up like the other senshi.

Also, Haruka, Setsuna and Michiru also have the big issue of not being able to relate to Non-Senshi, much more than the other senshi. They act polite, friendly and what not but they have a duty and keep people away because of it, only letting in their fellow senshi. An outsider dating Haruka or Michiru would also have to accept that no matter their feelings for them, they won't ever be as important to them as their duty or their princess. And if need be will be sacrificed if its in the way of doing it. Something both Michiru/Haruka repeatedly spoke of during S.
