Dedicated to friends current and former- you have taught me so much. Might not have been what you intended but I still learned something.

Captains Log Stardate 20.0721

The Enterprise has been commanded by Admiral Nogura to go to Dolium Five or Zalda as it is called by the local race. I am to wave the flag so to speak and help Captain Dmasree Thter with finalizing the joining of the Zaldans to the Federation.

Not sure why the Enterprise is needed at this when the fine crew of the Gabriel Bell should be able to handle it. However when the Old Man wants you somewhere, you go there.

Captain Christopher Pike exited the turbolift and stepped onto the bridge. Ensign Sonak, the graveyard shift commander, got out of the command chair. The rest of the Alpha shift was there and at their stations.

ôCaptain on the Bridgeö Ensign TÆCharka stated.

ôAt easeö Pike said as he sat in his chair.

ôAll is quietö Yeoman Picard stated then smiled ôSo you know weÆll run into something messed up Chris. Enterprise luck and all.ö

Pike had to fight the urge to smile as well. Jaques was always talking about the odd things that Archer and April had encountered as captains of an Enterprise. To be fair they did run into some interesting and bizarre things. Archer was rumored to have driven several Vulcan scientists crazy with his adventures.

ôAny odd spacial anomalies or rifts on the map Ensign Jarvack?ö Pike asked.

The Xindi Arboreal shook his head. He had to stop from smiling since this happened everyday since Pike had taken command of the Enterprise a month or two ago. Jaques was sure they were going to find something Enterprise worthy weird.

ôNone that were on the map before we left Captainö Jarvack said.

ôYou see anything Lt. Davers?ö Pike asked.

ôNothing odd in front of us sirö Julia Davers stated.

ôLooks clear so farö Pike said in a neutral tone.

ôSomething will come upö Picard said in a stage whisper ôIt always does.ö

Pike had to fight rolling his eyes at that. Yet his friendÆs antics always kept moral up. Though Pike sometimes wondered if Jaques was less yeoman and more court jester for the ship.

ôI donÆt see anything weirdö Laton commented from the science station with the huge by human standards smile all Saurians seemed to have.

ôCaptain we have a distress call from the Icarus in the Delaroin Sectorö Anthony Gilmar said. The lunar schooner turned his chair and looked at the captain ôAnd we are the closest ship.ö

ôYellow Alert and raise shieldsö Pike ordered ôHelm set course for the Delaroin Sector.ö

Pike then pushed the intercom button on his chair and said ôI need a medical team in Transporter room 2 and ready to give assistance.ö

ôWeÆre on it.ö Nurse Susan Tryana calmly stated.

Then Pike called security.

ôI need a security team ready in Transporter Room 1ö Pike ordered.

ôWeÆre on it sirö Lt. Andrew Halloway said.

It took minutes for the Enterprise to reach the Delaroin sector, but it felt like it took hours to get there. The atmosphere of the bridge was tense and everyone wondered what horrors theyÆd discover had happened to the Icarus.

The instant they were in system Laton began scanning the system for the Nelson class ship. The scans showedà.nothing?

ôCaptain itÆs aö Laton said.

Then suddenly the ship shook violently. From under the south magnetic pole of the fourth world in the system, a ship flew at full impulse speed at the Enterprise. It launched a spread of photon torpedoes.

ôCaptain an upgraded Raptor class ship just took a shot at usö Laton said.

ôHow did they manage to hide from the sensors?ö Pike asked.

ôThey were hidden by the magnetic pole of one of the planetsö Laton explained.

"Lt. Davers I leave the Raptor to you" Pike said.

ôAye sirö Davers said with a slight smile. There was a reason she had the nick name ôDeadshotö.

A laser spread hit the Raptor dead on. The shields of the aging Klingon scout barely held out against the phased energy barrage.

The Raptor came around unleashed their photon torpedoes on the Enterprise. It caused the ship to shake like it was in an earthquake and the shield strength dropped by 15 percent but no significant damage.

Another barrage of laser fire from the Enterprise hit the Klingon ship and clipped their wings off.

On the bridge of the BaghneQ Captain Kolard cursed his fate. The Enterprise could exchange hits like this for far longer then his ship could.

ôDamn the House of Duö he said before a photon torpedo went through the bridge before exploding. The ship seconds later blew up as well.

On the bridge of the Enterprise Jaques Picard smirked.

ôWhat did I tell you? Luck of the Enterprise to attract the weird stuff.ö Picard said.

ôIÆd pay real money if heÆd shut upö Laton muttered.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pike tugged at the collar of his green dress shirt. It always seemed a little too tight no matter what he did to it. It annoyed him to no end.

Pike looked at the sea of people at the reception. Most were Zaldans or Federation personal. Yet in one corner they had claimed as their own was a group he didnÆt want to see or deal with.

A group of Klingons.

From their corner they radiated menace. There were only six of them, but even one Klingon could start a riot in a place like a reception. And that corner was most definitely their ground. They had claimed it and drove off anyone that came near it.

The security for the event kept a close eye on them. The Klingons were able to keep their knives as they were a part of the uniforms. Supposedly they were æhonorÆ knives, but Pike doubted the Klingons even knew the meaning of the word.

Then one of the Klingons walked out for their corner over to Pike.

ôAh Captain Pike it is an honor to meet youö the Klingon said in a honey-like pleasant tone. It raised PikeÆs mental red alert instantly. He had never known a Klingon to be anything but sounding harsh and menacing. Frankly heÆd rather have this one sound like that.

ôYes IÆm sure it isö Pike said flatly ôAnd you are?ö

ôI am Toral, son of Durasö Toral stated proudly ôAnd it is an interesting honor to meet the Captain of the Enterprise.ö

There were several tense moments before Jaques Picard walked by with a cup of something Pike couldnÆt identify.

ôHey Chris we got try some of this Klingon drink. Beats tea any day of the weekö Jaques said.

Several of the Klingons laughed at that.

ôMaybe later Jaquesö Pike said.

ôSuit yourself Chrisö Jaques replied as he walked off.

ôFinally a human that enjoys raktajino instead of terran kafei.ö Toral said looking amused.

ôI enjoy a Vulcan Mocha myselfö Pike admitted.

"I'm surprised the Vulcans have kafei or ale." Toral noted.

"Brandy not ale." Pike said.

"Of course" Toral said.

"Now if you'll excuse me I have a speech to give" Pike said and walked off.

Toral's expression turned dark for a moment as he watched Captain Pike among the crowd.
