Original thread.

Some time after the battle of Yavin, but before the Alliance is based out of Hoth, a couple of Alderaanian smugglers obtain some ysalamiri, and hire assassins to take out Palpatine. The assassination works, and because the Emperor is cut off from the Force when he dies, he stays dead, being unable to get to his clones on Byss. No longer clouded by the Dark Side, Yoda's vision is.

Lord Darth Vader is now in charge of the Empire, save for those parts that won't listen to him.

So, what happens now? How will Vader deal with being de facto Emperor, with the Rebellion, and with the few Grand Moffs who refuse to follow him?

How will Yoda deal with the clarity that comes with the Emperor's death?

What will the Alliance to restore the Republic do?

Does anyone feel inspired to write this?

Vader struck me as a well intentioned extremist. Most of the personality seem in the movies show he is brutal and ruthless, but as the prequel and the expanded universe show, he and Thrawn have good qualities to them. If Vader was running the Empire, he would do well to cultivate Thrawn's loyalty and together they can bring true order to the Galaxy.

Let's face it, despite being the good guys, the New Republic was a MESS. A little order, a little preparation for the Vong invasion, it could go a long way.
