Great AU Luke/Mara story. Not a lot of action but great story telling and character development make up for that fact.

The Star Wars eras with plenty of fics are mostly the KOTOR period, PT (Prequel Trilogy), OT (Original Trilogy) and the stuff that happens after the movies, usually with particular attention to the Vong war in the NJO (New Jedi Order) period. If you are interested in any of these in particular, it'd narrow the possible choices considerably.

I would suggest the three stories below. They are a re-imagining of the entire series and what would happen if the Jedi did not accept Anakin into the Order after Phantom Menace. It's a very good series which I have followed for years. Good writing and strong plot.
And also these three stories take place in between Episode I and II and as a spoiler the third fic has just begun with the Clone Wars.

I found the most enjoyable ones to be the massive AUs, of which my favorite is "Drive me Mild". The premise is Darth Vader found Luke, raised him, overthrew Darth Sideous, died, & now Luke is in charge. Whatever will the Rebellion do? Mara, have fun.

KOTOR: The Power of Choice by SIth Lord Darth Revan.
A KOTOR fic where Revan retains his memories at the start of the game and it all spirals out from there pretty radically. Been a while since I read it but as I remember it well, recced as something different.

I've heard good things about the Unity Saga. Its a crossover between Star Wars and Star Trek. Haven't read through it all yet, but currently the Empire looks down on the Federation as a bunch of idealistic morons, and seems to be manipulating them from behind the scenes.
