Star Wars Question

Just what the hell is up with the technology being used in Star Wars? It is seems like every few years that it's being wanked up power wise and I was wondering if they had ever given a explanation for it in canon?

...Besides fanwanking I mean.

Probably because galactic civilization has been around in some form or another for hundreds of thousands of years, as opposed to the few hundred most scifi posits between now and then.

in the last 4000 years high tech for us went from hitting each other with sticks to killing each other with complex machines fired by even more complicated flying machines from distances most people 4000 years ago would be unable to comprehend.

give us another 40 or 50 thousand years, and see what we call powerful then

Unless we get locked into a stifling cult bureaucracy that halts innovation almost entirely.

Short answer, SW tech throws around ridiculous amounts of power yes. Because the races in the SW galaxy have spent tens, and in some cases hundreds of thousands of years building up to that point.

True though frankly their have been long periods of time earthwise where technology hasn't advanced or even devadvanced.

But anyhow I meant more on how the powerlevel that the ships are throwing around seems to be always being wank up a level every few years. Which can get rather irritating when you consider the how they've been focusing somewhat on Clone wars.

It's gotten to point that I except to find in twenty years that they've fanwanked the power levels too point that the Tie fighters during the time of the Empire are throwing around Teraton level blasts.

Well, if you're talking about the power of the average Imperial I or II class Star Destroyer, then I don't think it's too far off the mark. I mean, they are damned inefficient, energy-wise, but they're still powered on small suns the size of large asteroids. And that a team of (I think it was) 3 of them is more than enough to glass your average M-class planet in an hour.

Their main problem was that there were shitloads of inefficiencies, design flaws, and outright weak points in the Imperial I & II's designs. Lots of places for smaller craft to hit, and whatnot.

They really should have just continued producing the Victory-class, and kept upgrading and updating them with the latest systems every decade or so.

The Emperor believed in intimidation, and disregarded the effectiveness of small fighters. Rather silly when you consider the kind of damage Vader did during the Clone wars with his fighter squads.

Honestly if anything in the Empire worked efficiently itÆs because people like Vader, Thrawn, and Veers took charge.
