Stargate question

#1
I recall in one episode of Stargate SG-1 those armbands that gave superpowers. As I recall it was some type of virus doing it. The person's immune system eventually made antibodies and stopped it, so the armband was only temporary. My question is this: Would someone with an autoimmune disease such as AIDS be able to use the armband indefinely? Any ideas or possible consequences of this would be welcome.

IIRC, it's been thought of, before (not recalling where, though), but discussion didn't go anywhere, as we just don't know.

It's an interesting thought, but given that the Atanik armbands also super-charge your metabolism, I'd imagine that you'd catch something and die from it very quickly even if your own immune system didn't turn on your healthy cells. What they need is some sort of targetted immunodeficiency that only effects that virus...

I think if they wore it much longer than they did they'd have to start worrying about accelerated aging.
