I like the characters and I appreciate the kind of tale she is telling. I will even admit that Steven shows some potential for (I think it's called) lateral thinking. That said Steven is too often a liability, and that appears to be because the girls are either unwilling or too busy to give him some basic combat skills that would improve his survivability. Normally I'd dump a kid like him on batman...but I don't wanting him losing his charming nature and love of life....so Peter Parker, you're up.

I'm kind of surprised there isn't more resentment toward Steven in the story. I mean his mom left them in a lurch and died solely for the sake of bringing him into the world when it was implied she was their Great Leader. At the very least they should dislike his father a great deal for luring his mother away like that.

They do (or at least Ameth) call the father a mess, and discount his ability to contribute so that fits.

Yeah but the way they take him in immediately just seemed odd to me. I mean Pearl steps into a motherly role and Amethyst becomes the fun big sister way too easily. I can give them a pass on trying to keep him out of things until he begins to understand how his own powers work and how to harness them. I'm just kind of shocked none of them say anything about how his birth took Rose Quartz away from them. It's like we got the character development for them halfway through without a proper starting point. As wrong as it would be to think that way, it would be more logical for at least one of them to blame Steven a little bit for his mother's "death." I guess I miss the chance for the characters to evolve out of that mindset.

Maybe a new character will come along and fill in for the blame game on Steven and Rose's death.

However that may go a bit into Cerberus syndrome and its a bit too early for that. Maybe for the season finale?

Well, that's the first major argument we've seen between the Gems. I can forgive Steven for going too far, he's young and impressionable and was playing along with the game. Amey on the other hand should've ensured he knew how far he could take this. I'm kind of on the fence about Amey using her Gem powers on humans, I mean it looked like semi-fake wrestling, but she is a Gem and obviously outclasses anyone there, and if not careful could likely cause serious harm.

Overall I'm glad they made up, but I have growing concerns about Amey and her influence on Steven.

Yeesh, Pearls a mother-hen, Amey's reckless and irresponsible, and Garnet speaks about as much as Bambi's father. I see trouble on the horizon.

One other thing, dose it concern anyone else that Pearl mentions seeing a Gem temple in it's prime 100 years ago, which is now in disrepair, and that we've seen a massive Gem battlefield but only four lving Gems so far? I mean the universe is a big place so they could all be scattered....but since I'm not hearing them talk with any other Gems I am seriously worried that they are it.

Ah, and if the first season never shows the Gems being angry with Steven for Rose's death I might just write a fic set when Steven was still a baby that explores how they got over their resentment.

Been watching more of this....if that Lion is not some aspect of Steven's mother then he HAS to be her former pet/allie or something. That cave he took Steven too had Rose Quartz written all over it. Steven's coming along well enough and I'm glad Connie's useful in a tight spot. It proves Steven can pick'em.

Honestly it's growing on me more and more. The cave had to be his mom's considering that it had three spares of her supposedly one-of-a-kind-super-powered light canon in there. And Pearl is becoming more and more of his surrogate mom as it goes on. Amethyst gets on my nerves from time to time but it's a good cast as a whole. Although part of me wants to see more of how his shlub of a father charmed Rose Quartz.

Huh.....I really like that episode.....I really like the song Pearl and Steven sang as well...

Also, I've always kind of felt this way but this episode cemented it. Garnet and Amy fill the role of Steven's big sisters. Pearl is the mom, period.

edit: One more thing....the fusion dance Amethyst and Garnet did......maybe I've been on the Internet too long but....that last move.....can we show that on a kids show?

Check this out, and consider it a possible explanation.

Also....Lars....the next time you make Sadie cry...you won't be walking for awhile....

So....Steven accidently creates a whole bunch of alternate versions of himself....and to prevent that from happening destroys the time device....at which point all the alternate versions die in terror as the Prime Steven looks on horror, seeing each one ripped out of existence while at least one begs for help....

....fucking hell!

Steven Universe Episode 21 Joking Victim

Lars is an ass. Yes I know from Ep.14 that Lars painfully desperately want to be part of the "cool kids" and that make him do these things but that is no excuse for is actions. Lars is an ass.

Steven Universe Episode 22 Steven and the Stevens

Was funny in the beginning but got really dark in the end. Just love the look of Pearl face when Steven says he created a alt-timeline. Wounder if that going to bite them later. Also Beach City only have 15 people live there?

Monster Buddies

It seems Steven has a lot of his mother in him....and now he can bubble Gems. The boy is coming along just fine.

Also, look closely when the Centipeedle first leaves it's bubble....it briefly takes a humanoid form. It's been suggested that these monsters are corrupted Gem warriors.....meaning Steven could end up surrounded by 'Big Sisters' he's saved from madness.

Question: When did Rebecca Sugar leave Adventure Time to make Steven?

The way Lapis seemd to scoff at the other Gems being concerned with protecting earth (and then casually draining our ocean) does make that a distinct possibility. I mean for all we know, Steven's "Sisters" are the Gem equivalent of Autobots....and the deceptions just learned where they hang their hats as it were.

On the plus side, Steven's skills and powers are coming along nicely and he was able to get through to Lapis on some level. I do think the Gems need to sit him down and explain things some more....but I get the impression they want him to enjoy life before all hell breaks loose.

Favorite part of the Episode....Pearl's OCD manifesting so severely when she skewered the teddy bear Amethyst was trying to place on her ordered pile.

Was I the only one bothered that Steven didn't even know what school was? I mean I suppose it establishes that he's lived with the gems longer than assumed but the fact he was literally "playing" school because he and the other Gems had no real concept of it kind of bothered me. It really pointed out just how non-human his upbringing has been. You'd think his father would insist on that just to allow him to make friends or something.

Greg is likely assuming Steven is being homeschooled....and to be fair....considering how volatile Steven's powers are homeschooling might be for the best....IF the Gems were doing that.

Hopefully someone will point out that Steven needs an education. I'm sure Pearl would throw herself into the role of teacher if given half a chance.
