I'm kind of surprised there isn't more resentment toward Steven in the story.  I mean his mom left them in a lurch and died solely for the sake of bringing him into the world when it was implied she was their Great Leader.  At the very least they should dislike his father a great deal for luring his mother away like that.

Yeah but the way they take him in immediately just seemed odd to me.  I mean Pearl steps into a motherly role and Amethyst becomes the fun big sister way too easily.  I can give them a pass on trying to keep him out of things until he begins to understand how his own powers work and how to harness them.  I'm just kind of shocked none of them say anything about how his birth took Rose Quartz away from them.  It's like we got the character development for them halfway through without a proper starting point.  As wrong as it would be to think that way, it would be more logical for at least one of them to blame Steven a little bit for his mother's "death."  I guess I miss the chance for the characters to evolve out of that mindset.
These comments were made in 2014...and though we've gotten some clues about this before today....the most recent episode "Three Gems and a baby" gives an explanation. Amy and Garnet were still under the impression that Steven was still...Rose on some level when he was still a newborn (A transformation or a fusion) while Pearl thought Rose was trapped in a baby. Truth be told, Pearl came REAL close to ending Steven by trying to remove his Gem. Thankfully she couldn't do it...specifically because of how much Steven meant to Rose....but that was close. In the early years...it looks like confusion prevented any resentment from rising to the surface (well...in Garnet and Amy's Case...Pearl is clearly resenting Steven and Greg...though she does smile for the first time at Steven's antics) since the Gems just didn't know WHAT they were dealing with.

Several new Steven Universe episodes just dropped....

Damn it Garnet....ALL you had to say was 'We can't go because Blue Diamond is there right now.' I'm pretty damn sure Steven would've been willing to wait if you said that....for FUCK sake there was NO need to be cryptic!!!

The good news....Blue Diamond cares for Pink Diamond enough that an appeal based on preserving the memory of Pink Diamond MIGHT sway her. The Bad news...the speed at which she went from crying to ruthless also suggests that ANYTHING she thinks is linked to the Shattering of Pink Diamond (Steven and the Crystal Gems for example) will face her full wrath.

What need of whimsy? by Kuro_Guardian
Summary: Don't be foolish - there has never has been such a thing, there will never be such a thing. (Peridot asks about homeschooling, and Steven asks about Homeworld schooling.) Dark.

Really enjoyed this one.

Thought a lot of things about it.

The tight, cookie-cutter caste system of Homeworld. The repressed anger of Yellow Diamond, the pervasive mourning of Blue.

For story-telling purposes, this was fantastic. However, it leaves behind so many more questions than we had before. This keeps up, the show is going to have a thirty-xanatos pileup.

All right, primary suspects:

White Diamond: We know so little about her that we can not rule her out as a suspect

Pearl (Earth): She might be able to hide out among st PD's entourage, and her devotion to Rose would give her the motivation..however this one is a little convoluted since I don't see how Rose would be able to take the blame...or why PD's entourage wouldn't blame Pearl for this.

Yellow Diamond: Current Primary suspect. She would have the means, the opportunity and her anger and impatience gives her a motive. She also gained PD's remaining forces and a chance to destroy a world filled with Organic life which she clearly detests.

I think that we can rule out Pearl for the same reason we can rule out rose quartz simply there is no method with which they could shatter pink diamond since Rose either destroyed or didn't yet have the breaking point

I don't know when the BP was made or if that's the only way to shatter a Gem. Pearl is low on my list but, in all honesty, with the facts we currently have she'd have a better chance than Rose at pulling it off. That said...the more likely culprit is one of the diamonds

Crack Theories on Suspects:

Blue Diamond: She had the mean and the opportunity though why she would do it I can't say. Though considering her emotions after the fact she may not remember killing PD.

Pink Diamond: This wasn't murder...it was assisted suicide.

Extreme crack theory.

Pink Diamond became Rose Quartz. RQ was unusually talented, gifted with healing powers and the ability to jump into other minds and apparently resurrect the dead. I suppose it's possible all Rose Quartzs can do that...but the number of abilities at Roses disposal, her ability to lead and even her love of earth (as well as BD's love for her) make me wonder if this theory is plausible.

Pink Diamond becoming Rose Quartz is less implausible than you may think.

We've never seen the form of another Rose, however we have seen a couple of different Quartz and, for the most part, they tend to look the same.

Rose looked drastically different from Jasper, or the various Jasper's and Amethyst's on Pink Diamond's zoo.

Beyond that, Rose is considered to be especially talented as well as having a variety of powers beyond the norm. Two in particular stand out. Her healing and her ability to connect mentally with other gems.

These both offer a means of directly manipulating other gems, a subset of powers to which we've only seen the Diamonds use. Blue could manipulate the emotions of gems whilst Yellow could disrupt the physical forms with ease.

Is any of this conclusive? Absolutely not. There is simply a lot of evidence of Rose Quartz having powers beyond the norm, and no explanation as to why.

..........well shit.....

Looking at Pink Diamonds gem...it occurs to me that if she flipped the bottom up and had it facing out....it'd look like Rose Quartz's gem....could we have just had our first official hint that Rose Quartz is really Pink Diamond....and if she is....what does that make Steven?

Lars, I have disliked you for the majority of this series. You have annoyed me, angered me, and generally made me think you were one of the most infuriating additions to this series. Yet, you have started to pull your head out of your rear, you have lead people in combat, and proven yourself more heroic than I ever could have imagined. Good work, and good luck.

A Single Pale Rose...

Holy shit. That was... just a shock. Theories have been flying around, but I don't think anyone expected to see that.

The fallout is going to be amazing.

Been awhile....so....White Diamond happened....and now we have the Steven Universe movie. Steven has clearly improved his control over his abilities and I like his new looks. All is bright and happy right until Spinel shows up and she has a bone to pick with Pink diamond. Honestly, after seeing her backstory, Spinel would be justified in punching Rose Diamond in whatever spot hurts the most. I mean....I know as Pink Diamond she was treated poorly....but to turn around and do that to an innocent......PD clearly need an updated to her moral compass much sooner than she got it.

Rose was clearly the spoiled little sister, but she really needed someone to act as a moral compass. Good movie, but damn if it really showed just how sheltered Rose was.
