Story Threads

What's policy on story threads that were started by members who've been banned?

If someone's been perma-banned, surely it's good form to delete their threads? Or at least lock them.

That way people aren't going to accidentally necro the threads.

Just a thought, that's all.

Delete, no. Why should a (potentially) good story be deleted just because its author did something stupid enough to get banned?

Locked, maybe. The preview section theoretically exists for feedback before a story is published elsewhere and a banned author can't get that feedback.

Honestly, though, I don't see this as such a great problem that we need to do anything about it.

NOT speaking as staff, but as a forum member;

I'm not sure exactly where I stand on this; but do we really have enough 'banned' members to make this an issue? With our current count, I can't help but wonder if we're ... well, being a bit mean.

In my opinion, keep it as it is. Necros are annoying as shit, but they don't do any real harm and can actually help new members stumble on the gems we have here.

My line of reasoning for asking this was "If I'm not allowed to post on a forum any more, I don't want my content on there."

I don't have any particular desire to see any specific stories deleted, but if the threads are locked, then people can't accidentally necro them.

It was just my brain thinking weird thoughts, that's all.

I can see where you're coming from and ... well, I'd rather deal with this on a case-by-case basis. If it's just a bunch of folks wanting a "dead" author to continue the story, we can lock it up, but if it results in a story idea discussion (even if its not in the ideas subforum), I see no reason to stop it.

Again; personal opinion, NOT an official stance from the staff.

A counter view- if you just got banned from this forum, why exactly would we care whether or not you want content here or not?

That said, I see no reason to make anything of this. Keep the rules simple and concise, there's no reason to delete anything for any reason anyway.

I apologise if I am giving the impression that I was trying to make something of this, it was just random thought-chain thingies and I wanted opinions from other users on the "matter".

Perhaps it would be best then to lock the threads after posting a note that tells people that it's being locked because the user was perma-banned and won't be able to read any comments you leave.

Or something. I don't know anymore.

I can see it both way...

The supposed person *is* the creator of those threads and the content therin... as such, banned or not, they should have a right to ask for their deletion...

However, the counter argument has just as much pull...

Those threads are on a public server and a contribution to a community. As such, The community has the right to keep it even if the person is no longer a member.

My own personal view though is I am adamantly against deletion of story content.
