Early 21st Century, Earth.

One day, seven objects were seen crossing the night sky, glowing bright like falling stars. Countless wishes were made that day as children everywhere believed these were true falling stars, ones capable of changing the world forever.

They were right.

It wasn't long before the public at large became aware of what they truly were. Seven machines that appeared out of nowhere in our atmosphere, designed for combat of some sort. The symbols printed upon their surface were clearly not of this world, as were the materials and weaponry.

Alien invaders, perhaps. We still do not know; our languages are too different and we have been unable to discern their motives, or how they could have come here so easily. We have tried to fight them, but our weapons are not strong to pierce their shields and they have not hesitated to defend themselves... but oddly enough, they have mostly kept to themselves for now.

All we are sure of is that these machines might be able to destroy our planet, either if we let them or if they call for reinforcements. A signal of some sort has been sent. How long until we see the results, however...?

I wanted to write a mecha series, but I didn't want to make it generic.

In short, there's a bunch of aliens in mecha who are stranded on Earth. These aliens want to make their way out of the planet, but unfortunately have no way to do so on their own; they literally arrived with only their mecha and no ships. None of them are scientists and they don't have the data on their ships either, so all they can do is wait and survive.

Which may be harder than they expect, considering both the needs of organics and the growing threat humans become, as they try to develop weapons to defend themselves even as they try to negotiate with these alien invaders - who knows what they want! And at the same time, actually fighting back may lead to deeper consequences than either side would expect.

...I understand this still sounds sorta generic, but I had a good idea and I think it's worth capitalizing on. Thoughts?
