This is my Challenge to Sword Art writers, try to keep the romance of the story alive and thriving here.
In some JRPG's, after you beat the game you have the option of starting a new game with all of your previous stats, levels, gear, memories, ect... Because Kirito beat Heathcliff he unlocked an experimental tech which would allow him to go back in time to when he first logged into the game, starting over from the beginning with most of his memories (minus the fact that Heathcliff is Akihiko) and his skills are still leveled up.
One of the main reasons that Kirito could choose to go back in time is the fact that he just saw Asuna die right before his eyes (even though she didn't reach perma-death state yet) and his sense of justice would force him to go back in order to save everyone that he wasn't able to save the first time round.
Recommendations to remember:
1. Kirito isn't stupid, he was able to use the admin consul to transform the remnants of Yui's data into a brand new game item along with backing it up on his Full Dive gear in less than two minutes, so please remember this when you write.
2. His first reaction to seeing Asuna in the past would most likely be for him to run up to her and gather her in a hug or something. Due to Kirito stabbing Heathcliff with Asuna's sword before she truely died, she was also included with the time jump and arrived back to the time when she first logged in or it could also be because they're married or a combination of the two.
3. Asuna and Kirito stay together from the beginning; becoming the Deadly Duet. (That would mean Asuna and Kirito never joined any guild.) What adventures would the both go on? What would happened to the people that they helped the first time round? Would Kirito be able to save Sachi and the Moonlit Black Cats? Would they start their own guild?
4. They find Yui one year earlier and due to the way the time-travel device works, Yui 'remembers' her mommy and daddy. They decide to settle down in their log cabin on level 22 for a while but get pulled back into the fight.
5. Sugou Nobuyuki aka Oberon tries to break in to the game but ultimately dies, preventing him from capturing the 300 Sao players.
