Sword Art Online

Yureka + Tower of Druaga + .hack = Sword Art Online?!?!

Summary:

Nerve Gear, the developed technology for rendering Virtual Reality. Sword Art Online, the first commercial VRMMO released.
Approximately 10,000 players signed up on its opening day.
However...

æMy name is Kayaba Akihiko. Right now, I am the only person who can control this world.Æ
æI think that most of you have discovered the fact that the log out button has disappeared from the main menu. This is not a bug, it is all part of <Sword Art Online>Æs system.Æ
æUntil you get to the top of this castle, you cannot log out of your own free will.Æ
æàalso, the discontinuation or dismantling of the Nerve Gear from the outside is strictly forbidden. If these things are attemptedàÆ
æThe signal sensors in your Nerve Gears will emit a strong electromagnetic pulse, destroying your brain and stopping all of your basic functions.Æ
æBut I ask of you all to understand that <Sword Art Online> is no longer a simple game. It is a second reality. àfrom now on, any form of revival in the game will no longer work. The moment that your HP reaches 0, your avatar will be gone forever, and at the same timeùÆ
æYour brain will be destroyed by the Nerve Gear.Æ
In other words, death.

Trapped in this virtual world, Kirito attempt to fight his way to the highest level and the end of this game.

It's not that morbid though, honest! It's like fantasy with just that touch of seriousness for spice.

It's an active project with steady progress. Do go and read it.

Good stuff. I found it when Sharramon had about six chapters up and have been following it religiously ever since.

I was surprised that the author actually sealed the deal with Kirito and Asuna inside the first book. Delighted, though, because it feels nice to not have the same traditional bullshit that so infuses these kinds of stories. Instead, we get pure awesomeness as a result with Kirito and Asuna's bonding.

Feels good man.

FFFUUUUUU

Mange is like crack to me.
Books are like crack to me.
Anime is like crack to me.

You have just showed me a source of anime/manga styled written fiction.

Further FFFUUUUUU
Warning, translation progress currently ends at a rather nasty cliffhanger.

Sounds alright, although I'm worried it's simply trying to use .Hack's popularity. I wonder if Baka-Tsuki would do Boogiepop Phantom.

The difference between this and .hack is its not one person that cant log off.

Its the entire server.

Things kind of take a creeping survivor horror theme right from the start.

Awesome series, I can't wait to read the rest.

I got to that part where he's charging and I was soooo dissapointed that's it ended there.

Are there any other that you would recommend there?

If you haven't already read Toradora, I'd give it a go. Work is being done on the tenth (and final) book, but the rest of them are complete and there's some changed events and references not made in the anime.

It's good stuff.

Haven't really looked at much else though.

The unfortunate thing about light novels is that they're not majorly translated.

So I hesitate to recommend anything else since most of them aren't even close to complete or adequately continued.

However, Baka to Tesuto to Syokanju does have its first volume complete.

You might have seen the anime of it already. Frankly, I prefer the LN. If only for the question (and answers!) at the beginning of each chapter.

Oh, but do familiarize yourself with the characters before you read. Things'll make much more sense if you do. (That's one of the weak part of the LN I thought. Not good enough description.)

I can't go to BakaTsuki anymore, since Takahiro Yamato died. Well, I can go, but it makes me melancholy as heck.

No more Kaze no Stigma, even if BT gets caught up? :blue:

Also did anyone else find the sex scene to be sweet, but also hot, but mostly sweet?

I mean it was done very well, and it adds to the story instead of detracting from it. It's handled very realistically.

It addresses the fact that Kirito is inexperienced and young, and also why it's possible in the game.

To be fair, he hadn't written a volume of Kaze no Stigma in what, four or five years?

Sucks, yeah, but he was already on a lengthy hiatus even before he died.

Yes, it was very nice.

The whole setup to it was pretty hilarious, and I honestly expected the misunderstanding thing to end the romantic scene right then and there. I was delightfully surprised to find my expectations thrown awry (something that happens quite a bit here, which pleases me to no end), and the addition of the sex scene was a nice touch. Hot, but cute.

I'm really interested in seeing where this story goes. And because Sharramon spoiled us with very quick updates at the beginning, I find any wait beyond four or five days agonizing. Still, he/she does a good job with maintaining at least a fairly quick pace, so ultimately I can't complain too much.

I have to admit, after reading Utsuro no Hako to Zero no Maria (which was surprisingly good) on BakaTsuki, I was looking at this, planning on reading it later. I'm glad its getting good reviews.

Girl, 3 times.
Are you calling me a girl?
He got a girl off three times? And somehow this demonstrates that he's "young and inexperienced"?

I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would (also I didn't realize that every time I'd found a light novel translation wiki it was this one). Rad.

I thought that was cause he was caught up sexploring her.

Edit: I just read what I wrote and noticed the typo in exploring but it was just too awesome a coincidence to not leave it there.
