Takato pulled himself from the rubble fairly easily, since there was very little rubble near him. One of the perks of being a few feet away from the door is the ability to pull yourself outside when things go South.

Nonetheless, he had a brief coughing fit thanks to the amount of dust that had been kicked up.

The first thing he did was glance up at the rest of the building. He sighed in relief; only the ceiling, the floor above, really, had collapsed, not the entire building. So while on one hand, the buildingÆs structural integrity was now in a questionable state, the others hadnÆt had a building fall on them, which was always a good thing.

He gave the dust a minute to fade, before for taking a deep breath and doing something stupid.

He walked right back in.

While he was pretty sure none of the Digimon would give a damn one way or the other over a collapsed ceiling, Ruki and Jenrya might have been hurt.

Something he wasnÆt sure what to think of.

However, he wasnÆt really worried about it that much; he figured Kyuubimon probably did something besides stand around while her Tamers life was in danger.

So he wasnÆt at all surprised at what he found.

In the spot where Ruki and Jenrya had stood, there was a large pile of rubble; large enough for Takato to tell that Kyuubimon was in there as well, even with seeing tufts of yellow fur. In addition, there was another large pile, if you could call it that; really, it was just a few large pieces of debris that had landed on Galgomon. He was still partially visible underneath it.

Takato looked at him for a long moment, before deciding he wasnÆt a threat. Between the extended beating heÆd taken and the collapse, Takato felt fairly certain the fight was over.

He had mixed feelings about that, but he did his best to put them aside for the moment.

He had bigger things to worry about; Impmon was nowhere in sight.

Luckily, that was a problem that was easily rectified.

Takato pulled out his Digivice and fiddled with it for a few seconds; he still hadnÆt quite memorized the controls. But in moments, the compass appeared. The arrow twirled around the screen for a second before catching ontoàwhatever it was that allowed it to locate Impmon, and pointing in his direction.

Takato followed the arrow, carefully stepping around the rubble. Within a minute, the compass indicated that he had found his partner. Takato shifted his eyes to the ground. It was hard to tell with the uneven surface of the ground, but was this spot a bit bigger? He honestly wasnÆt sure; one of the downsides of being so small was that Impmon didnÆt leave any large piles.

Only one way to find out, he decided. He put away his Digivice and fell to his knees. There wasnÆt that much rubble; or at least, there were many big pieces of rubble. Takato was able to move most of it, though he quickly began to wish that he had gloves, since his hands were getting hurt.

But it wasnÆt long before he was able to see most of ImpmonÆs purple body. He just had to move the large piece covering most of ImpmonÆs upper body. He took a deep breath as he prepared to move the large piece, before suddenly moving to the side. He was confused when he realized what heÆd done; heÆd had no intention of moving. So why had û oh.

With a snarl, Impmon flung the piece off of himself, before letting himself rest on the floor for a second.

ôOw.ö He said.

ôYou okay Impmon?ö Takato immediately rushed to his partnerÆs side.

Impmon took a deep breath before getting up.

ôNever better.ö

Takato didnÆt say anything, choosing instead to shuffle through LeeÆs deck, looking for a healing card.

Moments later, Takato and the rejuvenated Impmon stood together, not completely sure what to do.

ôSoàshould we call the police or something?ö

ôAnd what? Tell them some kids and their Digital friends did it?ö Impmon shot back.

Takato frowned.

ôThatÆs not what I meant. But we donÆt know if anyone saw us go in; itÆd look pretty suspicious if they knew we were inside but didnÆt call the police.ö

Impmon mulled that over for a moment.

ôTheyÆre probably already on their way.ö Takato added.

Impmon frowned at that.

ôI guess you should call, then. Unless someone in the know rats us out, we donÆt really need to worry; no oneÆs going to believe youÆre responsible for this.ö

ôEspecially when they look it over and find out no bombs were involved. Though a lot of the damage you caused is gonna look suspicious.ö

ôDonÆt act like I did it alone.ö

Takato ignored him, choosing to look around instead.

ôWe should dig out the others.ö

ôWhat?ö

ôIf people learn about Digimon, they might find out about the two of us. Which would be bad. And the others could point fingers at us.ö

ôThatÆs unlikely.ö Impmon pointed out.

ôBut possible.ö

ôI guess.ö

Impmon was the one to glance around this time.

ôWhere should we start?ö

ôWith Jenrya and Ruki; KyuubimonÆs with them, and she was the only other Digimon in this room that wasnÆt trying to kill us a minute ago.ö

ôYeah, but only cause her Tamer was still deciding.ö

ôMaybe, but Galgomon had already made up his mind; Ruki was still mulling it over.ö

Impmon let out a long suffering sigh.

ôHow long do you think we have?ö He asked, moving toward KyuubimonÆs pile.

ôLetÆs call it five minutes, depending on traffic.ö

ôDo you have any strength boosting cards in that deck?ö

ôWay ahead of you.ö Takato said, already holding up a card. ôStrength Plug-In W, Activate!ö

I need some help. Can anyone tell me about the police system in Japan? I'm sure I can find it on Google, but if anyone in the know could summarize what they think is important, I'd be very grateful.
-----------------

Takato and Impmon quickly got to work digging out Kyuubimon. Well, mainly Impmon; Takato, being only human, could do only a fraction of the work Impmon was capable of.

But even so, neither of them had to do much work; shortly after they began moving the rubble, Kyuubimon also began to help; doing most of their work for them by merely standing up. The rubble fell off her like rain water as she did.

ôIf you could get out, why didnÆt you do it in the first place?ö Impmon demanded.

ôI didnÆt want any of the debris to land on Ruki when it fell off of me.ö Kyuubimon replied.

Takato, for his part, ignored their conversation.

ôWhatÆs the situation?ö Ruki asked; all business. She absently brushed some dust off her clothes, but since she was covered in dust, it had no noticeable effect.

ôLetÆs call it four minutes until the police show up; three if they make really good time. Impmon, go dig out Galgomon. Kyuubimon, please help him. Jenrya, if you know of any way to make him revert to Terriermon, and for some reason havenÆt used it already, please do so now.ö Takato replied in the same way. He was somewhat surprised at how easily Ruki was able to put aside the fact that they had been fighting only minutes before. Perhaps he hadnÆt given her enough credit.

ôI donÆt.ö Jenrya stated. Kyuubimon was already moving towards GalgomonÆs location.

ôShit. Can you carry him?ö Takato asked the yellow fox, as Jenrya lifted himself from the ground.

ôMaybe. Though I feel the need to inform you that a huge nine-tailed fox carrying a large humanoid bunny-dog through the streets of the city of Tokyo is going to draw a great deal of attention.ö She said as she started digging.

Takato winced at that.

ôCould you take the roofs?ö Takato asked.

ôIf I was just carrying Ruki, yes, but IÆm not sure I want to risk it while carrying Galgomon.ö

Takato shook his head.

ôJenrya, you need to figure out what to do with your partner. Like, right now.ö

ôI just told you, I donÆt know how to revert him to Terriermor!ö

ôNow would be a really good time to figure it out. Meanwhile, IÆm going to go outside and call the police so that we donÆt look too suspicious. One of you, call Yamaki; maybe he can help.ö

Suddenly, an idea occurred to him that was so obvious Takato was embarrassed he hadnÆt thought of it earlier. He quickly shifted through JenryaÆs deck, but didnÆt find what he was looking for.

ôIÆm sure there are cards allowing you to devolve youÆre Digimon, but I didnÆt think that would be necessary, especially not on my second day, so I didnÆt put any in my deck. Neither did Jenrya. Did you, Ruki?ö

ôNo; Kyuubimon can turn back at will.ö

ôDo you have any at your house?ö

She looked at me like she was insulted that he asked that, which he ignored. He got the feeling heÆd be ignoring a lot of things in the days to come.

ôOf course.ö

ôHow fast can Renamon get it?ö

ôFast enough, but IÆm pretty sure she wouldnÆt recognize it on sight.ö

ôThen ask her to bring all your cards, and you can find it.ö He began to walk towards the door. ôIf the police show up, IÆll try to buy some time.ö

Minor spelling error near the chapter start, dust not dusk.

And, I'm sorry to say I know nothing of japanese police, Akina is japanese though, you might be able to ask him.

Also, found this: http://www.konaka.com/alice6/tamers/plan-e.html might be useful.

That's all word of God, taken directly from his notes.

It was translated so someone probably added all the extra 'digi' terms, and they already put out a claim stating the 'adventure is tv show' stance as false for the japanese version, so I guess, with two conflicting Words of God you can use whichever you want.

EDIT: Oh hey, that rule is new, so a Digimon can only use one Monster Card at a time, so you can't combo a MetalGreymon and SkullGreymon card.

EDIT2: Huh, so it's not exactly that they were a tv show so much that he was considering having them appear or show up somehow...

EDIT3: And the way he keeps switching names is mildly annoying.

Thanks for that link, Aarik; I hadn't seen that before. I also corrected the dust thing.

I've decided that I'll probably skip the police part; it wasn't really important anyway. I'll just skip to the more important stuff.

After all, three Digimon Realize in this chapter. I have a feeling people will care more about that then brief police interactions.

Takato sat down with a sigh. He wasnÆt sure if Ruki and Jenrya had gotten Galgomon out; he hadnÆt been able to check without looking suspicious. Luckily, for the moment, it wasnÆt an issue. Yamaki had shown up and was talking with the Police.

No, thatÆs not quite right.

Yamaki had shown up, and was pulling rank on the Police.

Who was this guy?

He made a note to himself that he should find out. If this guy could convince police officers that investigating potentially collapsing buildings was a bad idea, then he was obviously very powerful, and thus, at least potentially, very dangerous. Definitely someone to keep an eye on.

Something that shouldnÆt be too hard if he was allowed to join. Takato decided to be on his best behavior for the time being; he was beginning to really want answers.

He was torn from his thoughts when Yamaki approached.

ôWhat happened?ö

ôImpmon sensed a Digimon, so we tracked it down. It turned out to be Renamon, and due to our previous encounter things quickly degraded to the point that Renamon evolved. Jenrya and Terriermon showed up shortly after and got involved. Due to the situation, he evolved.ö

Yamaki didnÆt so much wince as he became still, but Takato caught it anyway.

ôI take it from your reaction that I donÆt need to tell you he was out of control?ö

Yamaki didnÆt comment so Takato continued.

ôWell he was. Due to the dangers that quickly became obvious, Ruki and I set aside our feelings and teamed up to deal with Galgomon and Jenrya lent me his deck. Long story short; the combination of two Adults and a supped up Child blew the roof off.ö

YamakiÆs reaction was hard to judge; it was obvious, whatever it was, but Takato couldnÆt interpret it.

ôAnyway, as soon as Galgomon started shooting and cars started exploding, IÆd wisely relocated myself to, oh, the doorway. When rocks started falling, I was mainly out of harmÆs way. After I was pretty sure the rest of the building wasnÆt going to fall on me, I went back in and tracked my partner with my Digivice. I dug him out, we dug Kyuubimon out, she dug Galgomon out, and we worried about what the hell we were gonna do about Galgomon. I called the cops so they wouldnÆt be suspicious that I was nearby, and one of the others called you. I went out here to buy time if needed; Jenrya and Ruki worked on Galgomon. No idea if they succeeded, though Renamon was getting RukiÆs cards when I came out here.ö

It was all true. The abbreviated truth, perhaps, but all true.

Yamaki looked at Takato silently for a minute before nodding.

ôStay out here and make sure nobody else goes down.ö

ôGotcha.ö

There's an odd sentence cut off near the start of that snippet, 'that invistigating potentially collapsing buildings' and then it cut's off.

Hmmm 'Yamaki didnÆt some much wince as he became still' is also messed up to, it should be 'so much as', and, no, I do think he would talk to Ruki and Lee to confirm though, Takato is an unknown quantity, they aren't.

Also fixed. And don't worry, the next segment is all about Yamaki speaking to the other Tamers; that's why he's keeping Takato outside.

ôYamaki!ö Jenrya said, surprised. HeÆd been very scared when heÆd heard someone coming down.

Yamaki ignored the exclamation, focusing on something he deemed far more important.

ôGalgomonÆs still here.ö He stated with a frown.

ôNothing's working.ö Ruki said, still shuffling through her deck. She didnÆt even look up.

ôThen donÆt bother; IÆll tell a van to pick him up.ö He said, already reaching for his phone.

A quick call later, Yamaki refocused on the Tamers.

ôNow explain whatÆs going on.ö

Ruki raised an eyebrow and looked up.

ôYou didnÆt ask Takato?ö Jenrya asked, voicing RukiÆs question.

ôI did, IÆm just not sure I trust him.ö

Jenrya frowned and opened his mouth, but Ruki cut him off before he could say a word.

ôI had Renamon attract ImpmonÆs attention, and drew him and his Tamer here. As soon as they noticed me, they apparently decided I was here for a rematch and immediately attacked.ö

ôWas that why you were there?ö Jenrya wondered.

ôThatÆs not the point.ö Ruki hesitated before speaking the next part. ôThey did fairly goodàfor Rookies.ö

ôThatÆs not what I saw.ö Lee commented.

Yamaki lifted an eyebrow and turned to the second Tamer. He took that as a sign to continue.

ôTakato and Impmon looked to be holding their own when I showed up; Ruki had even made Renamon evolve because before she did Impmon had dominated the fight. Hell, he dominated the fight even afterwards.ö

ôOnly because of the huge amount of modify cards he was using right off the bat!ö Ruki protested, glaring. They would have worn off momentarily, and Kyuubimon would have crushed him like an insect. And how long were you watching, anyway?ö

ôLong enough.ö Jenrya replied.

ôWait. Why are you here?ö Yamaki asked.

ôTerriermon sensed Renamon, too.ö

Yamaki nodded and remained facing Jenrya; heÆd obviously decided he wanted to hear JenryaÆs version instead of RukiÆs.

ôTakato did indeed make use of a number of modify cards designed specifically to counter Data types, and, more specifically, Child and Adult Data Types. I assume the deck was designed specifically for dealing with Ruki, and while I must agree that once the cards wore off, he would have lost, I believe that was more because of his limited selection of cards than anything else. From what I know of him, he doesnÆt exactly have a large amount of money to spend on cards. Even so, after he ran out of cards that were useable on Renamon, he still had a number left, which I assume are for situations that didnÆt come up, probably Virus and Vaccine type Digimon.ö

ôWhy do you think that?ö

ôBecause thatÆs what I would have done. Actually, thatÆs what I did do.ö

Yamaki nodded in acceptance of that and Jenrya continued as if he wasnÆt interrupted.

ôHe showed aàstartling amount of ruthlessness, not letting up on Renamon for a moment, but I suppose thatÆs a good thing in a Combat Tamer. His original strategy seemed to be focused around not letting Renamon evolve, which was unsuccessful. However, he showed the foresight of preparing for that, and using his cards skillfully enough to fight on even ground with an Adult, if only for a short period of time.ö

ôButàö Yamaki asked. He knew there was a æbut.Æ There was always a æbut.Æ

ôBut his partner seems to be influencing him a lot more than normal.ö Ruki chimed in.

ôWhat she said. HeÆs showing an incredible desire to fight, and the ruthlessness and relentlessness of a Virus. HeÆs obviously willing to go pretty far to win.ö Jenrya agreed.

ôWhich is not necessarily a bad thing.ö Yamaki pointed out. ôHow did he react once Terriermon evolved?ö

ôHe seemed willing to set aside his feelings in order to help.ö Jenrya said.

ôHelp himself, at least.ö Ruki added cynically. ôHe benefited from his actions more than anyone else did.ö

Jenrya frowned at her, but continued undeterred.

ôHe was also willing to protect Galgomon when things got serious.ö

Ruki had no response for that.

ôAnd he helped us when we were buried under all that rubble.ö

ôWe were never in danger; Kyuubimon was there.ö

ôWhat about afterwards?ö Yamaki asked.

ôHe took control of the situation.ö Jenrya stated. ôHe helped with Galgomon, told us to call, called the police to avoid suspicion, and went out there to buy time. He also tried to get Galgomon out of here.ö

ôHowÆd he do under pressure?ö

ôVery well, sir; he seemed to thrive in it. Probably more of his partners influence.ö

ôThen what do you think, Jenrya? Would he cut it?ö

ôYes, sir; I think heÆd make a great Combat Tamer.ö

Yamaki looked at him silently for a minute.

ôVery well, Jenrya; you go to the same school as him, right? Go home, IÆll take care of everything here.

ôAnd tomorrow?ö

ôBring him in.ö

I need to know; can any of you think of any other concerns Ruki would be likely to address?

-------

After Jenrya left, Ruki turned to Yamaki.

ôI donÆt think thatÆs a good idea, Yamaki.ö

ôWhatÆs not a good idea?ö

ôMaking Takato a Tamer.ö

ôYou used his name. He must have made quite an impression.ö Yamaki said, focusing on the part that interested him.

ôIÆm serious, Yamaki.ö

ôI know. And I agree. HeÆs been a Tamer for less than two days, and we have no idea how heÆs handling it outside combat situations. He could be really dangerous if the power goes to his head, especially if he manages to evolve his partner; we all know the power of a Digimon, and he and Impmon have proven they can be a devastating combination even though ImpmonÆs just a child. When he realizes the power he has at his disposal, he could do any number of things; use it to make money, to steal, to get back at those who picked on him, hell, to impress girls. Those are all likely ways for a teenage boy to make use of power. And thatÆs only a teenager fantasies. What could happen if he started to think like an adult and realizes that crime does indeed pay, especially when you have that much power behind you. And those are just the obvious stereotypical male ways to use his power. We know nothing about him, much less what he might do. Howeveràö

ôWeÆre not exactly weighed down by our options, are we?ö

ôNo. Digimon are realizing much more frequently and we have a limited number of Tamers.ö

ôA fact thatÆs made even worse by the fact that not all of them are mentally built for combat; hell, some of them arenÆt even physically built for combat.ö

ôAnd of the remainder, not all of them want to fight. Takato is risky, and letting him in could easily turn out to hurt usàbut it could also help us, and we need help. And if we donÆt get it, people are going to get hurt.ö

Ruki was silent for several seconds.

ôYouÆre right; heÆs a gamble, but weÆre running out of options.ö

ôWeÆve run out of options. The amount of firepower needed to take down Adult Digimon is fairly extreme; too extreme for us to use in one of the largest cities in the world. We need Tamers. IÆm not saying we should just trust him, because anyone whoÆs been around the block of human nature once or twice would recognize that as a monumentally stupid idea. IÆm just saying that heÆs got firepower. A lot of it. And heÆll only get more as his partner evolves.ö

ôIf he evolves.ö Ruki corrected.

ôNoàI think those two will evolve.ö Yamaki said. ôI think theyÆre too good not too.ö

ôàI agree. Which is what IÆm having problems with. This is his second day, his partners still a Child, and IÆm already considering him a potential threat. And weÆre going to just make him a bigger one. If Impmon becomes an Adultàwe could have a major problem on our hands, Yamaki.ö

ôYeahàI know. Which is why I want you to keep a close eye on him.ö

ôIÆm going to be his teacher, Yamaki. Did you think I wasnÆt going to watch him?ö

This is mainly ust a filler scene leading up to the next few scene, which involve revelations, turning points in the story, and several different types of Realizations.

It was disorienting. Just Yesterday, he and his partner had been fighting a battle straight out of science-fiction.

And today he was going to school like nothing happened?

Takato had spent the entire day feeling like heÆd suffered whiplash do to how suddenly the situation had changed. Several times heÆd caught himself wondering if everything had been a dream, but he quickly shook such thoughts away. He knew it wasnÆt.

HeÆd brought his Digivice and Deck with him to prove it.

Was this just something he was going to have to get used to? Constantly switching between normalcy and abnormality?

He doubted it, if only because he wasnÆt sure heÆd be able to take it.

Such were the thoughts passing through TakatoÆs mind as he walked out of school. That is, until they were interrupted.

ôHey, Takato-kun! Over here!ö

Takato turned towards the familiar voice, and as heÆd expected, there stood Lee Jenrya.

ôLee-sanàö He suspected he was about to switch back to abnormality.

ôJenryaÆs fine, Takato; or even just Jen.ö

ôAhàokayàJen-kun. Is something wrong?ö

æJen-kun,Æ something it was going to take some time to get used to, got closer in order to whisper something.

ôItÆs about Hypnos, actually. Have you had enough time to think about it?ö

Takato had been expecting someone to approach him about it eventually, but he was a bit surprised that it was Jenrya.

But then, he reminded himself, you only know three people; Yamaki, Lee, and Ruki. YamakiÆs the big man in charge; why would he do something like this? This was grunt work. And anyone who wasnÆt blind has probably realized that he and Ruki donÆt get along. So who else would it be?

That in mind, he gave his reply.

ôYeah. IÆm in.ö Takato said, not bothering to beat around the bush.

ôGood.ö Jen replied. ôDo you have some time?ö

ôSure.ö

ôThen letÆs go.ö

ôLet me get Impmon.ö

Anything you think Takato should have asked Jenrya that he didn't?

He'll be talking to Yamaki in the next part, too, so he's not done with questions. I think I have that part pretty much covered, but if you guys have any questions you think should be covered, just tell me. I'm not saying I'll put it in, since it might be important to the plot, but if possible, I'll try to cover it, either in or out of story.

-------------------------------------------------

ôWhere are we?ö Takato asked, getting out of the black van. HeÆd been driven here by someone he assumed worked for Yamaki. He blinked in surprise. ôThe Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building? This is our base?ö

ôWhy not? WeÆre a part of the government, and this is the headquarters of the Metropolitan Government.ö

ôHypnos is part of the government?ö

ôYeah.ö

ôUh, okay.ö Takato said, trying to get past that. He took a guess. ôAnd its purpose is to deal with Digimon?ö

ôIt is now.ö Jen said, but didnÆt elaborate.

ôSo, whatÆs the deal with us Tamers?ö

ôGood question; thatÆs kind of why youÆre here. To learn about being a Tamer. At its most basic level, being a Tamer simply means being bonded to a Digimon. However, itÆs a bit more complicated than that, due to the effects of that bond, as well as the current situation.ö

ôEffects?ö Takato thought about the weird things heÆd noticed himself doing. ôIt changes you, doesnÆt it? Your personalityàö

ôNoticed that, did you? Good job. ButàitÆs a bit more complicated than that. Too complicated to discuss briefly. Luckily, thatÆs what the people upstairs are for. TheyÆll explain better than I can.ö

Jen and Takato walked into the building. Impmon was hidden in TakatoÆs otherwise empty backpack. One of the guards seemed to recognize Jen, because he nodded at him and let him through.

They went straight through to the Elevator and got inside.

ôHowever,ö Jen continued once they were away from prying ears. ôThe current situation is a bit easier to explain. Digimon are Realizing; thatÆs what we call it when a Digimon materializes in this World. In their own World, the Digital World, they exist only as data; they exist, but only in the same way that videogame characters exist. They canÆt really effect this world; the Real World. However, somehow, Digimon have advanced to the point where they are able to ignore such things and become real. Hence, Realize.ö

Takato had some thoughts on that issue, about Digimon not being real when they were data and how he wasnÆt sure he agreed. But he kept them to himself, and silently continued to listen.

ôAt their most basic level, a DigimonÆs purpose is to survive and evolve. ThatÆs why they come to this world; due to the much lower number of Digimon, their chances of survival are much higher and they can basically run free. In general, this results in them hurting a large number of people. Our purpose, the purpose of both the Tamers and Hypnos, in general, is to stop them, by any means necessary.ö

Takato had a thought.

ôIs that why they bond with us humans? To evolve?ö

ôWe think so. Like you noticed, your bond with your partner is affecting you greatly. But itÆs affecting him, too. HeÆs becoming moreàhuman, I suppose is close enough. HeÆs learnt your language, for example, though learning a language is generally easy for Digimon. But more than that, heÆs learning about humans; how they think, how they feel, how they fight. HeÆs doing it in the hopes that it will make him better able to survive.ö

ôIs it working?ö

ôThatÆs the thing about evolution; you only really know what works best when you look at it in hindsight. However, all signs point towards yes. A TamerÆs Digimon is, all things considered, stronger than a Digimon of the same type and level. In some casesàa lot stronger.ö

ôàBecause of the cards.ö Takato didnÆt quite ask, because it wasnÆt really a question.

ôAnd the Digivices. But even without them, theyÆre stronger; weÆre not sure why.ö

ôWhatÆs with those things anyway? Why do the cards and Digivices do what they do? Is that another part of DigimonÆs evolution?ö

ôHonestly? We have no idea. The Digivices exist independently of the Digimon; we know that much. And the cards are definitely part of this world. So we have no idea why they do what they do.ö

The elevator reached its destination, and the two Tamers (and the hidden Impmon) walked out.

Noticing that they were almost there, Takato extended one hand and stopped Jenrya. Jen looked at him and raise one eyebrow.

ôBefore we go in,ö Takato started. ôI have one more question.ö

ôShot.ö

ôYou said we stop Digimon when they realize. How?ö

Jen was silent at that. He turned to look forward again, but still didnÆt say anything. It was only when Takato was about to ask again that he spoke.

ôGenerally?ö He said, turning to look at Takato again. ôWe delete them.ö

He closed his eyes for a moment, before correcting himself.

ôWe kill them.ö

Takato had no reply for that, and Jenrya didnÆt want to say anything else.

So they walked the rest of the way to their destination in silence.

Hmmm...

In the series it took Takato a long time to really understand what it meant to kill, at first, it was just a game, until he realized what it was exactly he was really doing.

Sort of like Ken, only without the flamboyant costume and the being batshit crazy and the torture or the enslavement...

I forgot where I was going with this.

Anyway, from what I've seen, this Takato is the type to look and make his own conclusions before asking any questions, this is good because it gives you good exercise in rational thought and let's you compare and correct your expectations against reality, this allows you to learn to read people and plan better.

Yeah, that's what I was going for.

Also, a lot of the time, fics gloss over things like deletion, and hurting Digimon, and what that really means, but at the same time get pretty angsty when the subject of killing or hurting humans comes up. However, it's been pounded into our head since Season One that Digimon are people too. So I never really understood how people could massacre Digimon by the dozens, but break down when humans show up, and I wanted Takato (and to a lesser degree which will gradually increase, all the other Tamers) to notice this double standard.

I also want to show how people presented with the same information can come to wildly different conclusions because of different experiences while none the less remaining realistic.

So hopefully I'll do a good job at both of those.

Well, in some of the seasons, this double standard actually makes sense, Tamers most emphatically not being one of them.

This is because, in every season except one (Tamers) and the second half of another (Savers) and possibly Xross Wars, Digimon COME BACK after you kill them, Humans don't.

Digimon dies: Big deal, he'll be back in a day or two.

Human dies: Oh my god... I'm so sorry...

That's just the thing; in 01, killing Digimon was a big deal. Angemon was reduced to an egg, but Takeru was still upset about it years later. He even didn't want to let his partner fight a few times after that. And whenever a bad guy killed someone, it was something horrible even though they came back really quickly.

And 02, God, 02. The Chosen spent most of the series refusing to kill, and when they had to kill LadyDevimon they were really upset about it even though she was a really bad Digimon. Oh, and killing Digimon was seen as a really horrible thing, which Ken spent most of the series repenting for, even though everyone he killed was probably back in a week. Hell, he even went to that place full of eggs that I don't remember the name of to get Wormmon. And guess what? Everyone he'd killed was back.

But in Tamers, where they don't come back, the Tamers spend the first half of the season killing every Digimon that appears, and, hell, leave all of two of the people they fight alive. And the morality of killing things that it's been ground into our heads were alive too was never really mentioned. Not even once they learnt that there were plenty of good Digimon in the Digital World.

Now don't get me wrong; I was glad to be spared the angst. But still, doesn't it seem weird?

Know what was really hilarious about 02?

The Humans were more hung up on killing Digimon then their partners were.

The only reason Paildramon didn't kill Arachnemon right off the bat was because Daisuke said not to, Silphymon was HAPPILY willing to tear LadyDevimon's Digicore out through her chest so He could show it to her so she could watch it dissolve as she died.

They actually start to get FRUSTRATED with their Humans pacifism a few times.

EDIT: And I was referring to the Fandom's perspective, the canon ones don't really make any sense.

EDIT2: What makes it worse is that, Primary village and it's equivalents would be pretty nice to get sent to, you spend the week or so it takes to get back to your previous form lazing around in a gigantic bed, being pampered and given free food.

EDIT3: Also, why didn't anyone give Juri a damn Resurrection card, with only 30% HP Leomon wouldn't have been any good against Beelzebumon but he would have been alive.

I like to think with Silphymon, it was Angewoman/Gatomon showing through. Miyako and Iori seemed more hung up on killing then Hikari and TK.

01 at least only started getting real worried when the dark masters messed up Primary village.

Jogress is, 99% of the time, the process of one Digimon taking the energy of another to evolve higher.

It's not the Fusion Dance, it's Cells Absorption, in the canon case, Aquilamon absorbs Gatomon to become Silphymon, Ankylomon absorbs Angemon to become Shakkoumon, XV-mon absorbs Stingmon to become Paildramon.

One of the Ryou Akiyama games reveals that each of those pairs can also lead to the other merely by switching who absorbs who, Gatomon absorbs Aquilamon and becomes Angewomon, Angemon absorbs Ankylomon and becomes HolyAngemon, Stingmon absorbs XV-mon and becomes DinoBeemon.

So Silphymon is mostly Hawkmon, Gatomon maybe get's some influence, most likely, but still mostly Hawkmon.

That's why Cyberdramon has Monodramon dominant, because he initiated the Jogress, so he get's the dominant part of the resulting Digimon, and XeedMillenniumon get's jack shit other then the ability to make Monodramon want to fight more, which, considering how Tamers Digimon are, isn't all that hard.

EDIT: Grinding in Disgaea is hard, thank god for Cave of Ordeal 3.

Agreed, and with good reason. It's called being sensible. They could have all saved themselves a lot of trouble if Daisuke and the others could have just shut his mouths for a minute while Paildramon blew her to pieces.

That's one of the reasons I like Tamers so much. I found it odd that the morality of killing Digimon wasn't mention, but I did enjoy watching how they did their jobs. Because that's what it was like to them; just another job. In 02, it was something horrible, something they hated. but in Tamers it was nothing; they were just doin' bid'ness.

About the card, I would assume it was because the cards don't work once the Digimon is dead, especially since Beelzebumon loaded Leomon. Any card she slashed wouldn't have worked, because there was no Leomon for it to work on.

Alternatively, it was because it happened so fast; they didn't have a lot of time to search they're decks. That's why Takato stacks his deck in my story, and puts the cards he needs most on top.

I'm not sure about the Jogress though; in 02, the resultant Digimon seemed to react equally to both of it's partners, and several times, only one Digimon talked through the body. I think it was an equal shares sort of thing.

My standing theory is that the Dominant One (In the show represented by the first one to say their name in the Jogress) has primary control, and can basically control how much the other get's, so the Chosen's partners share with their friends, while Monodramon make's XeedMillenniumon his bitch.

I have this dominance theory for a few reason's:

Because any other theory means XeedMillenniumon has equal stock in what Cyberdramon does as Monodramon, and that's to terrifying to think about, and is blatantly not the case, more importantly, if it wasn't the case, Monodramon wouldn't have bothered with it, because it wouldn't have defeated him, just weakened him slightly, while simultaneously leaving Ryou with no partner to defend him in the middle of his greatest enemies lair.

And Monodramon is not retarded, and, another check for this theory is that Ryou was confident enough in Monodramon's control over the new digimon that he took the egg without a second thought, and placed no safety precautions, nor even attempted to, and Ryou isn't retarded.

By equal shares, I mean, both parties have an equal effect on the resultant personality.

Using Monodramon as an example, the result was very different than the original Monodramon; much more aggressive, for sure. Granted, this was less obvious at the lower levels, but could easily be a result of the fact that Ryo (and anybody else that got pissed) was more then able to punt Monodramon. Cyberdramon, however...

Also remember something; why would XeedMilleniummon be upset? I mean, he's now Ryo's partner; that was basically the goal of his life.

And while Milleniummon got half of the result, remember that Monodramon did, too. Cyberdramon may be exttremely aggresive, but he's never been shown as anything but loyal to Ryo. Which, grant, could just as easily be because of either party. Or both.

Supporting this theory is the fact that nothing ever showed one party being dominante in 02. The evolution thing showed both Digimon in equal part, and neither was mentioned or shown as having any more control than the other.

You said the canon case was that Aquilamon absorbed Gatomon to become Silphymon, Ankylomon absorbed Angemon to become Shakkoumon, and XV-mon absorbed Stingmon to become Paildramon, but I don't believe that was ever shown, stated, or implied. Indeed, it goes against the name Jogress 'Joint Progress.'

And while they can jogress into different Digimon, that doesn't really mean anything, because the same is true for normal evolution; Agumon can become, like, a bazillion Digimon.

I THINK I got it from the Digimon wiki or one of the notes, the absorbing thing, not the dominance theory.

Another plus, which I'm hesitant to site, is that, when they go through the ring the D-3's make and spin around as lights, when they align, it's vertically, not horizontally, with the first half on top and the second on the bottom, XV-mon's blue light above Stingmon's green.

And then there's the appearance...

Paildramon looks like XV-mon killed Stingmon, chopped him up, made armor out of his exoskeleton and used his lower legs as casings for some guns.

Silphymon looks like a humanoid Hawkmon wearing a tight cat skin shirt with full arm sleeves with a fancy headdress made out of her ears.

Shakoumon looks kind of like someone killed Ankylomon then remodeled his shell into some kind of religious statue.

According to the Wiki:

With DNA Digivolution, two Digimon combine into one Digimon of a higher level (however, in Digimon World 2, in order to balance gameplay, they revert to a lower level while having higher stat limits). The new Digimon will have both separate consciousnesses united into a single one. When a DNA Digivolved Digimon speaks its voice consists of the original Digimons' voices uttered simultaneously.
So I don't think so.

Did they? I hadn't really noticed.

As for the appearances, maybe we're seeing different things. Paildramon looks like an equal mix of XVmon and Stingmon, to me. Silphymon looks to have the upper half a a humanoid cat and the lower half of a humanoid bird. And Shakkoumon...honestly, he doesn't look like either of the guys he's made out of. Not to me, at least.

ôHello Takato.ö Yamaki said as he entered.

ôUmàheyàYamaki-san?ö He was honestly unsure of how to address the older man.

Luckily, either he got it right or, more likely, Yamaki simply didnÆt care.

ôI see you accepted our offer.ö That appeared to be something Yamaki did care about, however.

ôàYeah?ö He was also unsure of how to answer that, because it seemed that Yamaki wanted one if the long, uncomfortable silence was any indication.

Well, Takato was uncomfortable. Once again, Yamaki didnÆt seem to care.

Deciding that not making a fool of himself on his first day was the better part of valor, Takato chose to let Impmon out instead. He gently set down the backpack and unzipped it carefully. Impmon stepped out of it as though he was just getting out of a chair; Takato had been careful not to jostle his partner.

Impmon did complain a bit though, but Takato felt that was more because he felt he was expected to, then because of any other reason.

ôYou need a bigger bag, kid. It was cramped as hell in there.ö He grumbled. Takato just smiled casually at his partner.

In ImpmonÆs defense, his partner had indeed expected him to complain.

Takato watched Impmon for a moment, entirely because it gave him a way to avoid looking at anyone else while he put his thoughts together.

ôYamaki-san. Jenrya told me that the Bond between Impmon and I was affecting us both.ö

ôIndeed, that is correct.ö

ôWhy? And more importantly, how?ö

ôCan I assume Jenrya told you about the way Digimon are designed to survive and evolve?ö

Takato nodded once.

ôThatÆs what the Tamer Bond does. It increases the likelihood of survival and evolution. It increases the likelihood of survival by basically downloading information from the Tamer to the Digimon. Language, customs, mannerisms, information about locations, knowledge of the area, etc. Basically? Everything someone would need to survive in todayÆs world. He probably doesnÆt care about it much, but when you leave, quiz your partner on some of the things youÆve learnt in school. I guarantee you this; if you know the answer, he knows the answer.ö

ôAnd it also increases the likelihood of evolution, I assume?ö

ôYes. YouÆve seen it happen three times now, havenÆt you?ö

He didnÆt clarify, but he didnÆt really need too.

Takato knew exactly what he meant.

ôKyuubimon and Galgomon.ö

ôExactly. That is the true power of a Tamer. In the Digital World, Digimon can evolve in a number of ways; generally involving the accumulation and absorption of large amounts of Data. But a Digimon with a Tamer is different.ö

ôThey donÆt need to gather Data?ö

ôàWe donÆt know. We donÆt know how a Tamer is capable of evolving their partner. WeÆre unsure if they somehow bypass the need for data, or if a Tamer allows the Digimon to gather large amounts of data in a different way.ö

ôWell, okay. ThatÆs interesting, and it explains why my friend here partnered up with me. But ImpmonÆs not the only one being affected. YamakiàwhatÆs happening to me?ö
