TFF: Halloween World-Discussion

Okay, this thread is to try and fish out potential players for Halloween World, as well as to try and work out kinks in the idea.

It's a conventional roleplay, so don't worry about funny formats.

The scheme, while similar to the original Halloween World, should probably be twisted a bit to make gameplay easier, so I'm looking forward to seeing some suggestions.

For those of you who don't know, the basis behind Halloween World, is that everyone's been turned into their costumes for Halloween. Only, it's permanent. How does this happen? Magic.

Now, like GhostElder suggested in the Workshop, it's probably best that we establish a unified setting. So, I'm thinking that, in addition to the changing, the spell warps us all to the same city, or warps the world so that we're sufficiently close to one another to interact. It might or might not have been planned. Hell, it doesn't even need to be the same spell. Some one could cast a mystical call for help, and end up with us.

Soo... that's what I've got right now.

Anyone interested in playing?

What about people who don't dress up for Halloween?

They either die (boring/short), or quickly learn the skills of the Bad-ass Normal.

Or, get very good at running and planning ahead.

Remember what Majin Devil taught us. Even if it's an insanely creepy spider-demon-thingy, it can still killed by stabbing and fire with boiling hot oil.

Should we establish limits/time periods to draw costumes from?

For fun's sake, let's say that all costumes are open. Even stuff that wasn't around for Halloween that year.

I'll leave it up to the people to choose what they want. Use your own discretion. But, can we avoid the DBZ level of power, please?

I don't want this to turn into 'RAAAAAAAHHH!! V.S. RAAAAAAAAAHHH!'

Try and keep things reasonable, OK?

EDIT:
And for the sake of Roleplaying...

If you dress up as some one specific, you BECOME that person. Remember that. Only generic/original costumes retain 'themselves'. Everyone else is caught up in the magic.

Anyone have a problem with this?

No problem at all. I'll probably go with an original character though, I have a hard time not making characters OOC.

Hmmm... Just as a promo, do people want to do profiles? I'll be recycling my guy from the Halloween World's original thread, which was recycled from my Disgaea SI.

True Name (Who you were before): Kurt Sveldt

Costume (Self-explanatory): Human inflicted with modified Zenon's Curse. Effectively, a Disgaea Demon.

Pre-Personality: Very calm. Not prone to emotional outbursts. Nice, guy. Very polite. Very non-violent.

Shift-Personality: Still nice, but easier to anger and far more violent. This disconcerts him quite abit.

Appearance: About six feet tall, and very skinny. His eyes, which were previously green, are now a deep red. The pupils have also changed into slits, giving him a far more dangerous appearance, even if the effect is somewhat muted by his glasses. Hair's blond and straight, if only a couple of inches long. He looks fairly normal, except for his right hand that's been branded by the Seal. The nails on that hand are more like claws.

Abilities:
Increased strength, speed, durability, and agility.

Devil Claw: Using Mana, Kurt tranforms his hand into a hideous carricature of itself. Grants increased striking and attack power.

Mana Channeling: As a demon, Kurt can use his mana to make himself stronger, and perform special attacks. However, he can only obtain more mana by fighting and defeating foes. This isn't a Netherworld, where he can pick it up by just fighting. Also, when not in combat, he has to work hard at using it.

Demonic Evolution: The more Kurt fights, the stronger he becomes. The stronger the opponent, the sweeter the victory, the more mana he can absorb. He's geneticaly hard-wired to enjoy fighting, and learn from it. As long as he survives, he can grow stronger. As long as he survives...

Weaknesses: Cold stuff gets him. Put an ice-cube down his shirt, and he'll scream like a little girl. He has to focus his Mana in order to function in cold environments (below 40 degrees F). If he doesn't, he'll shortly enter a state of hibernation until he's warmed up. And with winter coming around...

Anyway, anything else you guys think I should include?

I've got this story I've been writing on my computer for awhile so I'll be using the main BBEG as the costume. Here's my profile.

True Name: Adrian Chen

Costume: OC Realm Eater in human form

Pre-personality: Eccentric. Tend to bottle up anger, easily riled up when in hearing range of whiners, complainers, and generally arguments of high volume however. Hits offenders when angry. Generally a nice guy when not angry.

Shift-personality: Still eccentric. Still bottles up anger. Still easily riled up when in hearing range of whiners, complainers, and generally loud arguments. Extremely irritable when hungry now. Gets really violent towards offenders when angry. Sadistic. A nice guy who you do not want to get angry.

Appearance: About five feet and five inches tall. His eyes, once dark brown, are now yellow with eye-whites now black. His pupils are slitted and switches between being horizontal and vertical. He has long black straight hair reaching just behind his shoulders. Wears a black face mask to hide his now sharp fangs. Wears a black trenchcoat over black shirt and pants that now has eyes and fanged mouths appearing and disappearing at random intervals. He can't see these new eyes though. His hands now have a fanged mouth in each palm. He wears fingerless gloves to hide them.

Abilities:
Enhanced senses, Increased speed and strength

Tendrils of Fangs: At will and when very hungry, tentacles of darkness with mouths fulls of fangs lined up along them bursts out from Adrian's body. Adrian can use these tentacles to move stuff, hit stuff, or eat stuff. The tentacles are weak individually but compensates by combining their strength together.

Occam's razor jaw and Adamantium stomach: Adrian can eat anything, regardless of what they are made out of, except for anything that is considered to be blessed or cursed.

Regeneration: Adrian can regenerate any damage done to his body by eating stuff. The quality of the healing depends on what he eats though.

Fanglings: Adrian can create little blobs of black slime and fangs by ripping out parts of his body. These blobs follow Adrian's commands but are usually mindless. They latch onto living things and begin eating them. They grow larger everytime they eat something. Very easy to kill regardless of size though.

Monster Form: Adrian becomes a gluttonous monstrosity of fangs, mouths, eyes and darkness when his hunger reaches its limit. Adrian at this point can no longer think rationally and attacks and eat anything that he can get his fangs into. Once the hunger has been satisfied, Adrian returns to normal and collapses from physical exhaustion.

Weaknesses: Adrian now has to deal with a terrifying hunger. As long as Adrian isn't hungry, he has full control of his body. However as the hunger increases, Adrian begins losing his control. Once he reaches his limit, Adrian begins eating anything that is within range. Stuff like bricks, metals and other inorganic matter fill his stomach up slightly. Living creatures however fill Adrian up much faster.

Blessed objects and cursed objects, when in close proximity, causes Adrian immense pain and prevents him from using his tendrils of fangs. On this note, silver items do not count as blessed.

Horrible smells and loud noises will cause Adrian great pain and disorient him for a short period of time.

Hitting Adrian in one of the eyes that appear randomly around his body is like kicking Adrian in the balls.

True Name Lance Williams. <LW>

Costume: Geomancer

Pre Personality: Calm, Sleepy, and Hates Noise.

Shift Personality: Calm, Doesn't like to wear shoes, Hates cruel people, those who harm his hat and vampires.

Appearance: Five Nine. Eyes are a Earthy brown colour with Bright Green lines. Wears a Dashing brown Hat. Is wearing a Green Shirt and Pants with a Brown Cloak. Carries a Wizards staff with a Green Crystal Sat upon it. Carries grimoire in Bag of Holding.

Mage Sense: Can feel if someone is casting magic or if the place is a Magical Hotspot <Hellmouth>

Earth Manipulation: Send boulders flying at your enemies, Spikes to erupt from under them and create localized Earthquakes <Fun>

Plant Manipulation: Use plants to ensnare foes or cause trees to smash people in the face.

Earth Golem Crafting: Once Per day Craft a single golem

Treant Creation: Once per day Create a Treant from a large enough tree.

Fusion Golem: Create a Golem using Earth Golem Crafting and Treant Creation. Uses up both of the spells for the day.

Book of Elemental Spells: Cast Fireball, Lightning, and Gust once per day. After Casting all three these spells causes them to become unavailable until the next day.

Berserk button: If Dashing hat is Injured then the limits on the above spells are set back to not casted and may be casted again that day. These Spells are unavailable for the next two days.

Weakness: Lance can only use his most powerful abilities once per day because of mana limits.

Frail: Lance is a mage not a fighter and thus needs a meat shield to hide behind while fighting.

Law of opposites: Every Magic has a weakness. Earth is weak against Water and Plant and is strong against fire and wind. Plant based is weak against Fire and wind, and is strong against water and earth.

Too Powerful?

Maybe Merged Personality or the Costumes pre-merger, where it applies anyway.

Lightwave, I think your one works just fine.

Also question. Are we to have NPCs/sidekicks following our characters around?

Depends.

All games need NPCs, but too many ingredients can spoil the soup.

What did you have in mind?

I've toyed with the thought of stumbling upon possible one of the following:

A) A Shifter princess who imediately gives Adrian the honour of being her servant.

B) A lost, also now orphaned little kid who latches onto Adrian for support.

C) A animal companion like a pokemon or something.

D) A zombie who still retains all sense of self and rational thought, like the ones from Xombie.

There are some other but these are the one that I have pondered on most though.

Here's my initial try at a character.

- - - -

True Name : Christopher Stuhl

Costume : OC Lucario for use in a forum campaign that never quite got off the ground.

Pre-Personality: A quiet sort of guy who tends to have trouble expressing himself most of the time, tends to talk little and stick to a dry sort of humor. Very protective of friends and family, but far more lax and even passive when it comes to self-defense. Fears really hurting someone.

Costumes' Personality: A loner most of the time, has a sense of justice, and will intervene to protect those that cannot do such themselves. In other words he has a æheroÆ thing. Like any other pokemon he enjoys a good scrap to test himself.
He also looks for a trainer to eventually take him further and to protect in turn, though for now heÆs quite content to just manage himself.

Shift-Personality: All together he has some issues to work out and may trip over himself during a fight due to some conflicting instincts, dreading and also being almost eager at the prospect of a fight. He is very protective of those he takes under his metaphorical wing, and will step into the path of an attack heading for someone unprepared without hesitation.

Appearance: http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/8/86/448Lucario.PNG' target='_blank'>Pic here</a>)Is mostly blue and appears jackal or dog like, is around four feet in height. His forepaws are black and have one white spike on each arm on the upper-side of its wrists. In addition, there's a third spike on his chest. He also has a furry yellow torso, and his thighs are in the shape of what looks like blue shorts. Has a black waist-pack to carry things around in.

Abilities:

Natural combat ability: HeÆs gained an average LucarioÆs speed, strength, durability, and fighting style. HeÆll continue to grow in strength the more he trains and fights.

Aura Manipulation: Aura is a form of spiritual energy described as the essence of every living creature. Gives a version of Telepathy, clairsentience.

Aura Projection: Can create barriers or attacks. It can also be used to transfer aura to others but that method can be fatal.

Moves: He can learn attacks or techniques that are naturally learned through the course of a Lucario's life.

Inner Focus: He doesnÆt æFlinchÆ in other words he doesnÆt cringe back when hit, unless heÆs knocked for a loop.

Weaknesses: Fire, æFightingÆ, and æGroundÆ attacks. Though in this context telling any Earth magic apart from Rock or Ground is difficult. Fighting, could be termed as martial arts.

He has a reluctance to fight anything more than mindless or animal opponents, hates killing, and his first instinct is to pull all his strikes, which wars with his own natural abilities as a Lucario, occasionally tripping him up.

Using an Aura attack on certain demons might just end up feeding them instead of doing any damage, depending on the demon.

Lacks thumbs now.

Wow... The first real 'Non-human' character.

Also, just as a side question... what were you doing wearing a Lucario Costume?

Also... 'Lacks thumbs now'... :snigger:
I find that bit amusing, and, strangely, it helps establish that you technicaly aren't human anymore.

The story is I lost a bet, had to wear a Pokemon costume for Halloween, never specified a particular Mon at the time, so I choose one I actually liked/identified with. Otherwise I could have ended up as Mr. Mime, Jigglypuff or something else embarrassing.

On the 'Lacks Thumbs' note, yes I'm expecting at least one or two Hilarity ensues moments from that.

That's good.

Hmm...

Well, we should work on coming up with a plot now.

I'm thinking we do a short pre-Shift period, just to start to establish ourselves. Then, the Shift happens, and shit happens.

Beyond that, I haven't got much of a clue where we could take this, but I do think that we should arrange for something to warp us all to one place. No reason for it not to be a big place, though.

Suggestions? Urban? Rural? Country? A call for help? Random time/space distortion caused by the Shift?

I personally like the idea of having a mashed up area. Where the Shift screwed everything up. So we could have Castles, Mountains, Giant Lakes, Cities, Rural area. And how we get there is a call for help from a moderately powerful mage lady.

So... Do we want to start tonight, or do some more planning?

More planning personally.
So do we keep up with TFF: The End Of the World? I do like it still.

When you mean tonight, how many hours is that away?

Edit: NVM, a little bit more planning would be good. So about the summoning thing. We're going to be summoned sometimes after the shift in order to develop our own characters after the shift, that's the idea right?

GhostElder

Well if it's a call for help, who do we know that could make such a call and pull people from across time/space?

We could even go for having another shifted pull help from the beginning of the shift a year or even farther into the future when things are looking to start getting dire for their area.

Urban provides salvaging opportunities but plenty of places for malevolent shifted to hide. Country is less outright salvage but we'd be able to clear a killzone around our area.

Could even go for a fallout-esque area, ramshackle towns and holdings surrounded by country and ruins of buildings.

A friend suggests Hollywood :huh.:

EDIT: And I took too long with that post...

I don't know much about hollywood.

But, yeah. Some more planning would probably be good. And let's leave the time-travel out of it.

So, who's our mystery caller going to be? A random sorceress being attacked that calls for help, ANY help? A deliberate summoning? Botched?
