BUMPIN!

Anywho, I'm looking for folk interested in a chat-style RPG again. (Especially with that Zalgo trick. How do you do that, anyway?)

Just cause the format's easier, and I think we get reactions that are a little more 'honest' then.

Now, then... As to the actual plot...

Hmm...

I'm open to feedback on this, but how does something... OK, no apocalypses. Obvious ones, anyway.

Right now, I'm caught between UFOs making contact, and the fallout/results of it, and 'Observation Records of Abnormal Phenomenon' thread.

Is anyone interested?

I'm up for it!

UFO blowing up the world as we know?

Count me in!

So what are we doing exactly?

"'Observation Records of Abnormal Phenomenon' thread" Sounds like fun, I can sort of picture it now.

A random poster decides to go investigate this story about a haunted place or whatever and gets a bunch of other guys to come along. They periodically updates their progress and at some point, weird shit starts happening.

Hilarity ensues/Nightmare Fuel ignites.

Sorry, I've been away. IRL issues with military bullshit. Incidentaly, one doesn't gain an appreciation for 'Military Intelligence' until one is actually in the military, and must deal with it.

Anyway, the theory this time is to play things alot more fast and loose. Not everything will be run by me. Although, if you do something stupid, I will take care of bussiness. Since I'm going to be pretty busy, some more freedom is needed.

The two plans I've got right now are 'Observations' and 'Aliens'. Observations will start off as a thread for posting what we've found about weird shit. Aliens, will start off with mankind making contact with aliens.

Beyond that, the name of the game is improv.

There is no fate, but what you make.

Hopefully, my gming should only consist of occasional light steering.

So. Which do you guys want to do? I want to try one at a time, if only to avoid confusion.

Finite time here, guys. And I want to get this thing started today, so...

For the time being, we're doing Phenomenon.

I still like the zombie idea.
I myself am interested in having a high school of the dead rpg. It would start like in the anime/manga where we'd be at the same school as the main characters, with it being moments before that zombie walks up to the school gate and bites the teacher.

Wonder how many of it us would try and bolt to the outside when everything went to hell, try to go upstairs, or some other method of surviving. Of if anyone would be bold enough to either prevent the teacher from being bitten or at least killing them before they could infect anyone else.

Keep in mind there would be no super powers involved, and the only tools you have would be those found in a high school.

So... good luck.. heh.

I still have to read High School of the Dead, but a Zombie based game could be fun, depending on which version we decide to play. There are plenty of variants to choose from, after all.

Well for those who haven't seen it yet, we can just do our own thing in the setting and meet up with the main cast later if at all.

Though whether we do a zombie rpg based on somet other series we should prolly do a thread where we describe our character's looks and irl skill sets that could be used during a zombie outbreak of any sort.

Sounds good.

You might want to make a dedicated thread for that, though.

#39
Yeah, and define "zombie", because at least one of the people who might sign up cannot stand the typical kind. At all.

Going to have to re-work my idea into something more reasonable and with better map generator. Results that I had in mind didn't turn out so well.

I've been fiddling around with this with Mick, and came up with this scenario.

Zombies were supposed to be a joke.á Something that you see on movies or joke about with your friends.á Unfortunately, for some reason or another, they became real.

No one knows exactly what happened.á Some say it was an experimental rabies vaccine that didn't work right, some said that it was a newer, deadlier version of mad cow disease.á Some say that it was the heralding of the Apocalypse.á It didn't matter, all that mattered was that zombies were real, and they were here.

Within days, almost every major city had reports of zombies.á Within a week, the infection spread.á By the time the military mobilized, their numbers were too great to contain.á Heavy weapons were too risky to use in civilian populated areas, and infantry could just as easily become victims.á They had more success in less populated areas, but there as just too much ground to face the horde at every front.

The objectives quickly changed from extermination to containment.á Air travel was shut down, and any planes were either shot down or redirected to containment camps.á Safe locations established and their locations were broadcast on the TV and radio.á The military abandoned us in order to preserve the lives of those lucky enough to be evacuated.

Since then, there hasn't been any news.á Aside from the endlessly playing list of safe locations, there hasn't been anything.á For all we know, the so called "safe" locations had a containment breach and have been overrun with zombies.á They could write the cities off as a total loss and just nuke us into oblivion.á There's no way to know.

It's up to us to save ourselves.á Either by escaping to one of the military's positions and hoping it's still safe, or by hiding and waiting for the zombies to die.á No one is going to save us, so we have to save ourselves.

I just hope we make it.

--Excerpt from an abandoned journal.
Important info:

Overall situation:
The outbreak started a few weeks ago, and went unnoticed for a week or so. By the time it was recognized, the infection was already problematic. It was initially treated as a disease, which led to a large number of hospital patients being infected or killed. By the time it was recognized as a threat, the infection was too widespread for the military to combat them effectively.

For practical purposes, high population density areas have been abandoned by the government. The high concentration of zombies, combined with the high risk of collateral damage, civilian casualties, and infection, made it too risky. Instead, the military has created several fortified "Safe Zones" out in the countryside. Their locations are broadcast over the Radio and TV, and civilians are encouraged to head towards them. There are occasional ventures into the cities to evacuate surviving civilians, but in general, they're on their own.

Zombies:
-Zombification is a disease. If you're bitten, you transform within hours or a few days. While research into a vaccine/cure is underway, it is slow going, both due to the danger involved, and the current situation.
-Zombification is a universal threat, meaning anything can be infected. As it can only be transmitted via bodily fluids, smaller life forms are effectively immune, as any injuries dealt by a Zombie is likely to kill it.

-Zombies start as fast zombies, but their highly aggressive nature causes a high rate of injury, which leads to impaired mobility.

Start Location: A city in the Midwest. This is to prevent the easy escape of going to sea. It also has a wide variety to places to move to/hide/start from.

City's Population Status:
20% Zombified (Active)
14% Zombified (Dead)
31% Evacuated
27% Dead
8% Surviving in the city

How's that look to you guys?

Pretty good I'll say.

Now for some questions.

These zombies will eventually rot away into just bones and useless pieces of meat sludge, right? If so, how long would it take for such a thing to happen?

Anything can be infected but smaller organisms will die before the infection will turn them in to zombies. So that would mean we won't have to watch out for zombie crows or pigeons but dogs and larger animals will become a zombie threat, right?

How strong are the zombies are? Are they strong enough to smash through a door due to lack of pain and therefore limiters or are they weak and therefore danger only in large numbers and sneak attacks?

-The zombies are alive, so they need to starve instead of rot. The average human can go 4-6 weeks without food, bust since there is a bounty of things to eat, it'll take significantly longer.

-Dogs and other animals are a potential threat. Like people, not all of them are infected, maybe 10 to 30%. I added this so we could have some variety in the zombies.

-Zombies are essentially crazed people, so they are moderately stronger than the average person. They'll break down a door, but it'll take some time, and they'll probably damage themselves doing it.

Hmm. Can we say 'No Birds'?

Just 'cause that would fuck us to hell. I suggest either saying it kills birds really fucking fast, or when zombied, they lose the coordination needed to fly.

Because, with a flying infection vector... well. Good bye Americas. That's not a typo. That's N America and S America are both fucked.

No need to worry about zombie pigeons or hummingbirds. Like I said they're too small.

Maybe some zombie eagles or condors, but I'll save that for later and give you guys some warning if I do.

So, how's monday for a start day?

Hmm..I have an idea...How about an RP based on the whole "Possessed Senshi" thing we were doing a while back?

This is not a joke, this is not an exaggeration and this is not me being ironic.

If I woke up as a girl, I would kill my self.

If I woke up in 1991, I would kill my self, for different reasons mind, but I would still do it.

If I woke up in Sailor Moon, I would ANNIHILATE MY SELF, to the point there was nothing but ashes left. Considering how cheap death is there, most likely several times.

A combination of all three?

I'd describe that as hell.

Trapped in a realm of your most horrible nightmares, not allowed to die.

Aarik would make a great Sailor Unknown Comet.
In 1993 she could be renamed Sailor Shoemaker-Levy 9.
And in 1994, she would have a very death having something to do with Sailor Jupiter. ^_^

Hey, Sidhe!

Haven't heard from you since you dropped out of End of the World 1.

How ya doin'?

Also, in regards to the SM thing... If people want to play, they'll play. But they can't make me get in on it.

Also, given Zombies seems to dead (haha, very punny) do we want to try a new game?

I've been lookin' at Fenspace, lately.

In the first decade of the 21st Century, a miracle substance named handwavium? appeared seemingly out of nowhere. Handwavium had properties that defied the known laws of physics, and could bring the impossible within reach of the ordinary person: space-capable flying cars, subtle and obvious modifications of the human body, even create new life from dead matter.

Scientists studied it. Governments feared it. The rest of the world didnÆt care all that much. Science fiction fandom saw handwavium as the key to making their fantasies reality, and took advantage. Fans founded the Crystal Cities of Venus, the topless towers of Helium on Mars, the bottled city of Kandor on the Moon, built farms in the sky and sailed beyond the edge of the solar system to the near stars.

ItÆs a brand-new Space Age, and the people who want to go are the ones leading the pack.
Come on, it's got fucking Handwavium. If that doesn't allow for some creative license, I don't know what does.

I don't think it's dead so much as having a stumbling start.

I mean only 3 or 4 people isn't really much all things considered.
