TFF RPG Workshop

Alright, then.
Title says everything.
This is a thread for suggesting TFF RPG's, ironing them out, and other such tom-foolery.

I've got two ideas, right now.

TFF: Zombie Apocalypse.
What it says on the tin. One day, there's a zombie apocalypse. The format would be the same as End of The World used to be, with people posting in 'semi-real' time, as though this were all real.

General restrictions are: You have what you have in real life to deal with it. So you paranoid get to benefit. Of course, this is the internet, so it's not like we have any means of checking up on you.

Questions: What kind of zombies are we going to use? Will there be mutations? How does the military hold up?

TFF: SMT
Okay, so Devil Survivor got me in the mood, and I don't know how hospitable this idea really is. Ostensibly, some one releases a version of the Demon Summoning program on the net, and havoc is unleashed all over the world.

Questions: Do we want to use COMPS? Or just whatever we have handy? Do we stick to demon summoning, or do we release a 'Harmonizer' patch? Demon limitations? Fusion? Last off, we'd need a large over-arching plot with deep meaningful things in it, in order for it to be true SMT. Do we really want to try and go the distance, or do we just want to have fun?

Feel free to shoot ideas down, discuss them, suggest them, whatever.

This thread is here for that reason.

I rather liked the Halloween World thread that sort of petered off in the Anime/Manga ideas section.

It's been awhile, hasn't it?
Anyway, slooowly working my way through Devil Survivor, and I remembered this thread.

Anyone interested in a TFF: Devil Summoner?
Basic format would be 'posts'. Kinda like how at the end of each day in DS you can send E-mail. It creates an excuse for not posting in awhile (Devil Summoning Program is using too much of the local server, and you can't send e-mail/post then).

Still stuck for a plot, though. It's HARD to even begin to measure up to SMT.

Anyone have suggestions? Interests?

If you want to post other TFF RPG ideas, that's fine too. It's what this thread is for.

For TFF: Devil Survivor, are we like in the same city or something or are we in different countries as the world devolves into chaos?

I was thinking different countries, if we're communicating by e-mail/forum posts.

Plotwise, I'm still coming up short on how it would go.

Probably something like...

Oh, hey! Check it out! I'm posting on my COMP!

Oh, hey! Did you hear that rumor? Some people have seen some weird stuff!

I heard a guy got mauled last night by something weird.

Oh shit, Demons!

Greetings. I am PLOT DEVICE, but you can call me Lou. Here's something interesting.

Demon Summoning program Debut!

Harmonizer, GET!

Auction and Fusion, GET!

Lol, multiple quarantine.

ESCAPE!

Break out!

Oh shit, Demons! Again!

...

And beyond that, I haven't a clue. That would probably and up decided by people who played.

Heh, okay. How would the auctions and fusions work though. It might be a tad hard to keep track of what demons we're fusing and stuff.

That would be the tricky bit.

We don't want game-breaking demons, right off the bat... But, they wouldn't appear early anyway. And then there's working how to get the demons. I'm thinking that you could go with the orginal Devil Summoner idea, and negotiate for contracts... or you could capture them via beatdown, pokemon style. A good limiter would probably be to make it so you need to negotiate a contract with 'higher' demons for assistance.

Then, there's working out Macca and Magnetite.

Plus, how do we want to distribute the Demon Summoning Program? Internet? But then, what about people who don't have a ... portable access, shall we say? Okay, so maybe you could hook up a PDA or a phone or something to your computer, download it, and haul it around that way. Laptops are too big and fragile. Maybe put it on a DS cartridge...

Probably keep COMPs available though. Have you seen a picture of one?

COMP

Yes, it's not the one from Devil Survivor, but it looks cool, doesn't it?

Anyway, as for keeping things simple, it's probably best if we encourage people to stick to only one or two demons.

Do you think we should have some equivalent of Skill Crack?

Yeah, that sounds like a good initial plan.

The demon summoning program being distributed across the net sounds like a plan except then anyone could use it and potential increase the chaos tenfold. Some hacker could also probably convert the summoning program into a DS and upload into a cartridge though.

Also I agree with that comp looking cool. But what's with the eye piece?

Anyway, as for keeping things simple, it's probably best if we encourage people to stick to only one or two demons.

Keeping it to one or two demons sounds like a good mainly because the demons themselves have their own personality and stuff. Therefore we would also have to roleplay the demons to some degree. And yes, some kind of Skill crack would be interesting.

Now for another question, would we have the death clocks?

No Death Clocks.

This is NOT Devil Survivor. The Laplace program would never work IRL, anyway. (Chaos Theory, bitches!)

No clue what's with the Eye-piece. Maybe it's a scanner or something? Eitherway, the COMP is a computer mounted on your wrist, with fun features. And, I found the COMPs in DS to be... too DS like.

Now, to limit the chaos... Maybe have it be only certain people are capable of using the Demon Summoning program? But, what determines that? Random genetics? Force of will? Macca?

I'll probably use a DS for summoning; maybe I had a friend hack it in or something.

Force of Will sounds good. That could counteract the distribution via the net problem. People would download it, but they don't have enough will power, so they delete it or something. I mean, eventually, everyone will use it , 'cause seeing demons walking around and trying to live would boost will power.

Also: Will the SMT games be part of that scenario? Because in the current RP, there was a hick-up because I thought The World Ends With You "existed", but Wata said the game didn't exist.

If the SMT games existed, then that would allow more people to summon (prior experiance, even if it was just a game) and have more genre savvy summoners. Of course, we'd have to deal with the people who, say, took Amane or Naoya's routes, but we'd also have people who chose the "Neutrality" endings in the original SMT games.

Nice to see some one besides Shibo post here.

I think it's best if most of the SMT games didn't exist, in this scenario.

Or at least, the Devil Summoner ones. And Nocturne. We can get away with keeping the Persona series, and maybe digital devil saga, if nothing else.

Let's try and keep fusion out of the equation, until late in the 'game', if it comes in at all. To keep things stable, I think we should stick to one or two demons apiece, too.

Hmmm...
Hey, how many people would be interested in trying this out?

If one knew next to nothing about this sort of thing where would a good place be to read up on devil summoner and the like?

The MegaTen wiki is a good start.
http://megamitensei.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page

It's not perfect, but it's a solid info source for SMT stuff.

Anyway, to bounce back...

What are opinions on the Halloween World idea? It'd be really hard, but also really open world. The thing would most definitely have to an 'action' post style.

I still like the zombie idea.

I still like the Halloween World idea though I'd likely get something a bit less powerful than what I got in the original thread.

One question for it is though is do we link up somehow or have ways of communicating there, like the laptops mysteriously still having internet connection again?

For the HW, I'd think it best to try and link up. The laptops don't work without electricity, afterall. Don't know how that would work, though. We'd all be scattered across the world. Maybe pick a 'location' for everyone to play in?

I'd try to play that. I would have any idea of what to do but I'd try.

Maybe something behind the chaos forces driving the spell? Grouping certain people up, leaving some groups in close proximity to other less friendly forces. Or since it's chaos, in completely random spots.

Maybe it's just that it's late, but... would you mind explaining what you mean?
I feel really confused about what you said.

My memory might be fuzzy, but I remember something of the original thread intro was:

Back in Ethan's Costume Shop, Ethan screams as the chaos consumes him. A swirling amorphous darkness as dark as the void of space tears apart his body, his soul, his very existence. The bust of Janus glows brightly then explodes into a burst of light and energy, shooting into the sky.

The sky and earth part, as Sunnydale is covered in shadows. The Earth shakes and the whole moon became as blood.
I was thinking that whatever caused the spell to go out of control was less accident and more malevolently planned. Either what caused it in the first place shifts various TFFers involved around.

Or perhaps that bust of Janus reacting either beings that particular god into being if only briefly or gets his attention and he gates a few people around to ensure that this won't be only an ending/has a chance to be another beginning, since that's part of his divine portfolio/area of influence.

That makes sense.

So, is anyone besides you and me interested in playing this? Or, should I just make a seperate thread to fish people in?
