The abuse of the Naruto forum

Something suddenly came to my mind a moment ago.

Now, I haven't been paying attention to the Naruto Forum, though I do browse a few threads that do look interesting, but are people still causing problems?

I'm not talking about one or two minor things since then; but have the problems persisted?

I'm honestly curious if this thread's relevant anymore. And, if it is...well, I still think that people should be more focused on reigning themselves in, rather than how to have others do it for them.

Popularity should NEVER be used as an excuse to do nothing. After all, if you simply write off crime as a 'fact of live' and try not do to something against it, the world will burn. <_<
The problem is when you have a lot of people together, they will have disagreements. The hive mind of TFF only seems to work in some situations. Overall in the Naruto forum the main problem is too many people of too different views clash at inopertune moments. The simple fact is that having a lot of people together increases the likelyhood of their different views clashing in various situations.

Dude, try not to look THAT deeply into what I said. Since when did I say that murder = some guy posting the wrong post in the Naruto section?

Yes, I made an allusion to the 'real' problems in the world. But I said it in the MOST general basis possible. I'm not saying what's happening here is the 'same'. I wasn't trying to imply it to THAT extreme. However, if it wasn't for some level headed people putting their foot down, we might have flame wars going on in the Naruto forum. Now are flames wars the same as "ZOMG! RAPE!!!!1111"? Of course not! But flame wars WILL make the Naruto section one Hell of a mess, the overall quality of those forums will collapse into meaningless bickering, animosity, and increase in hatred with each other, and of course, would turn off a lot of level headed people away from the section.

If you don't think this can't happen in the Naruto section, well, IMO, a lot of the 'debates' there almost became just that. 'Luckily', we do have level headed people putting an end to it before it happened. But I'm sure Ryo-Wolf, immolo, or parker can tell you stories about the debates they were in. And after all, there is a reason why a number of threads have been deleted.

And of course this thread is again, looking for solutions to the problem before it gets that bad.

[edit]And like my sucky way of ranting/debating usually goes, the basic point of this rant is the fact that a forum without rules that are enforced, well, problems will happen. And to use the 'other' extreme, a forum with too many rules is no fun either. However, it's that middle ground that this thread is all about that we're trying to find.

Tell me you didn't just equate arguments and misplaced threads in a discussion board with world crime. Please tell me you didn't get that melodramatic about a damned fanfic board.

But, if you want to make the argument, I'll counter with this. Prohibition, which is what we're discussing. Doesn't work. Causes more problems than it solves as evidenced by systemic and secondary violence in the worldwide "drug wars." If it was all legal, there would be fewer problems and less violence worldwide. There would still be problems, yes, but not nearly as many.

Actually that argument doesn't fit. Because drugs and crime are real problems and this is a discussion about people getting annoyed on a discussion board. We're all rational people here. We can deal with annoyance without censoring each other.
...

When a group of individuals are on a forum together, even if disagreements and different viewpoints are inevitable, it is expected that things can remain somewhat civil and people can show some responsibility and restraint with their actions. This is considered by some mere common sense.

Tempers and stupidity are not supposed to rule, no matter the number involved.

This simple logic applies whether 10 or 100 or 1000 people are involved.

Standards per board vary, but all have some limits, even if they are way out there (such as the Xchan boards).

The standard to abide by here is of course in the end up to in this case Hawk. Those standards as of the start of this thread must have not been met, or he would not have started this thread.

I'm worried that it's perhaps getting a little flame-ish here too... Could we all just take a few deep breaths before posting?

When it comes down to it, Hawk is providing us with a wonderful service out of the goodness of his hearts. We shouldn't be worrying that he punishes us, we should be worrying that we might just make it too much of a headache to be worth his while continuing with.

Agreed. This is the first forum in which my post count ever went more than 10. If it were to go away, I'd be lost.
