Awesome as usual Raa. Few things though.

I completely disagree with the opening statement :p

The sentence 'I've taking control of Cerberus.' should be taken, rather than taking

Aside for that, nicely written, and of course the obligatory

One does not simply kill off The Illusive Man! Especially offscreen! You have to at least drop a bridge on him.

Full Renegade Shepard. Standard male appearance. Council got blown up and replaced by humans in ME1.

In all honesty I find the renegade Shep to be boring as fuck. While he has some good, highly practical actions every now and then, most of it just being a dick for the explicit purpose of being a dick.
And that gets old pretty fast.
Also, they kinda dropped the ball on the whole Paragon/Renegade thing, since it still feels quite a lot like good/evil, due to how a lot of the actions are presented.

Overall, a balanced path between the two is pretty much the most interesting.

And yes, I generally support the default male appearance.

I'd generally go with a character that does what has to be done without being a dick about it, and dependent on whether you want to up the bro-ing with Kaidan, or play up the harem lulz with Ashley.
Amusingly enough, the choice between saving the Council and not saving them makes exactly zero difference in the grand scheme of things :p
Aside for extra laughter at the Council being incompetent idiots.

I dunno. I think in reality it would make future dealings with aliens much easier to save the council.

Kaidan left to die, Wrex survived, Tali got her geth data, all support character missions done, Completionist achievement. I prefer that the Council survive just because imagining the looks on their faces when the Reapers attack their various homeworlds just tickles me.

Do we get to avoid any of the plot-enforced stupidity & cutscene-only feats as well?

As for Virmire, I recall reading a pretty good post in the Mass Effect 3 thread here, I believe, that mentions why that death was stupid. Along with a few other things on Virmire & elsewhere.

Apparently, there was originally going to be an option that kept both Williams and Alenko alive - they even recorded the dialogue.

As for who lives/dies, what do you guys think about it being Williams?

I'm thinking that Shepard decided to play it cool with Ashley, they're ready to go beyond coffee in the mess together, but something came up before they could get physical.

Then Shepard gets blowed up.

After his antics through the Omega 4 relay, Shepard gains a cult following and Ashley feels more conflicted than ever - there was no contact from Shepard for two years and then he joins Cerberus but now he's an even bigger hero (and a damn sexy one, too).

She might be all "I nearly had that!", to which some of her female colleagues (or perhaps sisters) would be "And you let him go? What are you, crazy?"

"But he got spaced!"

Also, I think that it might be amusing if TIM keeps preventing any females from getting too close to Shepard.

And emergency here, an important message there.

But it backfires, making all the women chase after him.

And that's why it's called The Elusive Man - it's referring to Shepard getting away.

Or something.

I may have spoiled this story for everyone.

It pretty much sounds like it's made of win and awesome. I don't think anyone care's if they get spoiled a little bit

Which is precisely why they need to die.

You think its a bad idea to make future dealings with aliens easier? Let me remind you of what happened in our Civil War, where men from one state would routinely charge into battle, and die, to defend men from another state.

Want to talk about what cements different people together? The trust that they will have your back when the chips are down, and that you will have theirs. Leaving the council to die doesn't help in that regard, especially when the new human council isn't any more likely to listen to you than the old one.

I've said my piece on why Renegade Shepard is boring, so lemme add a little something up about it.
Regardless of whether you let the Council die, or save them, the Council survives and is still in power by the time ME2 rolls in, humanity isn't in that much of a better position, and regardless no one wants to believe there be Reapers coming.

So, aside for the Citadel Council being a bunch of annoying twats, which they are, what possible reason is there to let em die?
It's far more amusing and rewarding to let them live, if only to rub it in how freaking incompetent they are when the cards are down. It's also more practical, and beneficial in the long run.

Status quo is maintained either way, except for the fact that the Citadel species are more hostile and less willing to help humanity when the reapers come. Whoops.

Or we can think of reasons for this 'The Elusive Man' to make the Council Races pay attention?

A colossal closeup of Sovereign kicking their ass broadcast over galactic news with the label 'Ah yes, Reapers. We have dismissed that claim.'?

It's probably doable in drastically better way, but ^ is lulzy

Slowly grinding out the first mission to Freedom's Progress.

Anyone got any preferences/suggestions as to this Shepard's backstory?

Should he have been a spacer? Colonist? Maybe a biotic or an engineer?

It probably won't matter in the grand scheme of things, but it'll be better if I get these things sorted out sooner rather than later.

I guess it depends on what you're planning to do with him. The history I mean. I don't suppose his class will have THAT much relevance to plot.
Though for the purposes of random suggestions... Spacer Vanguard?

For what it's worth, this Shepard is a colonist vanguard. He's a veteran of Akuze.

His name is a bit of an accident. Or nominative determinism in action. It all depends on how you look at it.

You see, it was a difficult birth. Mrs. Shepard required heavy medication for several days afterwards.

Mr. Shepard was sleep deprived (his role was an important one in the colony) and he was distracted by something when the registrar asked him what they wanted to call their son.

Mr. Shepard blurted out "Stormtrooper!" at the wrong moment. Mrs. Shepard repeated it happily (she was heavily medicated) and thus the legend of Stormtrooper Shepard was born.

It was during the slaver attack on Mindoir, that his biotic powers manifested in a serious way.

On Akuze he became legendary, surviving the thresher maw attack that had killed his squad. When it tried to swallow him hole, Shepard used his biotic charge and burst out from the side of the thresher maw, like it was some kind of twisted Alien parody.

From then on, Commander Stormtrooper Shepard was the "go-to guy" for any difficult Alliance mission.

Now, I just need to work that backstory into some kind of proper narrative format that'll work with my fic.

There absolutely must be puns on his name.
"Only Stormtrooper's so precise."

"He can storm my trench any time he wants."

Things like that?

Or people asking what his actual name is.
Despite him quite obviously being named Stormtrooper.

Although the bolded part is absolutely hilarious, especially given some other stormtroopers/

Stormtrooper... I LIKE IT!

I hope it has no bearing on his marksmanship skill :p
And why do I see the non Humans make this awesome/romantic/philosophic meaning behind it!

I can already see Wrex try to understand it as "He who soldiers in like a storm."
And Garrus go something like "Calm and Focused like the eye of a storm"
And why do I see one of the girls go with the obligatory "He can storm my beaches any day!" :snigger:

More when you can Sir!
