Urgh, starting with the first chapter, my will to read on dramatically decreases with each paragraph. This person is trying for "darker and edgier" too hard, at the rate that he's going the next chapter would end up being "rocks fall, everyone dies". Comparatively, The Sun Soul first distances the devastation before gradually making it more and more personal, instead of jumping straight into "family and friends murdered before your very eyes and blood spray across your face" trauma.

Dauntless ? by Allora Gale reviews
Lelouch had been quite happy with his life. Sure they were living in obscurity, but he and Nunnally were safe. All of that changes however, when his identity is revealed and Lelouch is forced back into the fold of the Imperial family.
Code Geass - Rated: T - English - Adventure/Sci-Fi - Chapters: 47 - Words: 299,946 - Reviews: 1880 - Updated: 3-1-11 - Published: 7-25-10 - Lelouch L.
This fic has been going downhill recently. While it is not that bad (yet?), I think it bears watching to make sure it doesn't become horrible.

I gotta be honest, I don't actually see it going downhill at all. Besides, shit's basically just getting started right now.

40+ chapters of developing Lelouch's character from canon... and still many events from canon are shoehorned into the story.
  • Lelouch gets a Geass
  • Proceeds to manipulate terrorists to do his bidding
  • Suzaku interrupts in the Lancelot
  • Clovis dies
  • Suzaku gets persecuted (rescued by Lelouch, ableit in a different manner)
  • Cornelia goes to Area 11
I find it annoying that the author makes so many changes... and then canon events happen in (very) similar manners anyway.

Or maybe I just have too high standards from reading Lelouch of Britannia.

Making canon events happen despite a number of changes isn't necessarily a sign of a downhill slope. I actually quite liked that they still occurred, because they happened with Dauntless!Lelouch's flair. Even if they ended up the same, they certainly weren't the same events.

I haven't read the story, but I've got to say it.

If a story is 47 chapters and nearly 300,000 words in and shit's just getting started? That's generally a bad sign.

Dauntless is doing just fine in my opinion. Sure, the pacing isn't nearly as fast as some folks would probably like, but that is because the author tends to go in depth on secondary characters and their actions. Even if it's at such high word and chapter count, all of it drives the plot in some meaningful manner. At this point, you could say things are coming all together, so most likely we would see rapid advancement on the storyline in future chapters. As far as expecting "sweeping changes," I figured that having Schneizel in cahoots with Lelouch is already a pretty big change, at least in terms of potential consequences. Also, there's Nina to consider, and the fact that Lelouch is being appointed viceroy to Area Eleven. We would most likely see a Nina that's highly loyal to Lelouch's cause, as well as Euphemia staying wherever she's at currently. If that isn't some big changes, I guess you'll need to go further back in the timeline in terms of change.

This. Lelouch of Britannia has spoiled just about every single Code Geass fic that uses the "Lelouch is still a Prince" plotline for me.

Dauntless is still decent in my opinion, and should be kept, but I don't think of it as a flawless gem that needs to be shown off everywhere.

Oh yeah, I forgot to let you guys know, but someone else wanted to add their fic to the community. Here's the message:

Hello, my name is Quixel. I was wondering if you would let my story join your community. I've been working on ideas for it since December, and so far the plot I've developed is fairly complex. I've only posted up the first chapter as of yet, and it doesn't delve too deep into the main plot. However, I would be very grateful if you were to read it and add it to your community.
Thank You~

Since he only has one fic to his name, I assume he was talking about this:

<a href='http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6824285/1/Dragon_Queen' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'>Dragon Queen</a>

Read it if you feel like it, and tell me your impressions.

Not badly written, provided you decide to ignore the initial teenage melodrama. Well structured, dialogue flows well, and the characters don't seem over the top. Right now though, it's too short for an analysis on the plot, and that's where the sticking point is going to be. I never played the game, so the fact it can catch my attention is a point in its favor. Also, it's Harvest Moon, which from what I've heard is an extremely open ended game, making fanfics for it more of an original fic. I'd give it a "wait and see" policy to see how it develops, but right now I'm in favor of it.

Honestly, too short at the moment, and rather well, errr, not high adventure stuff? ;p Yeah, so since I do not usually like these types of stories I will not comment too much. It does have decent style but seriously, its Harvest Moon.

Im having some serious issues with "A Long Way From Home".

It's really reading more like some sort of moralistic "If the imperium was just nicer and more pogresive they'd not have these problems!" rather than an actual cross over.

Seriously, an elder farseer making fun of Imperial warships for their purification rituals? Unless she intends for her new found allies to get eaten i can't see any reason behind it.

In short, i don't think it's a good crossover. Though the writing style and format itself is quite good.

Never read that. But the Eldar thing? Sounds pretty spot on to me.

Oh, that's how i'd do it. Without a doubt Eldar are dicks.

In this story though it's more a "let us both laugh at the silly humans".

Seriously unless all twenty chapters or so have been an epic set up to provide for a massive fall... it's really more a fanboy wanking off story than it is a viable crossover.

We can recommend stories to be added right?

<a href='http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6960576/1/bEscaping_b_bFate_b' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'>Escaping Fate</a> [FSN] is in my opinion an excellent piece of work. It deserves pimping everywhere.

Anybody can tell me what's so good about <a href='http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6557238/1/Better_Left_Unsaid' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'>Better Left Unsaid</a>? Three chapters in and I'm finding it pretty mediocre.

Read more. It kind of grows on you.

Honestly, if I had to grade it as of chapter 28 I'd have to give it a solid B. It's nothing that'll make you grow as a person or question your established beliefs, and the prose isn't anything to write home about but it's a nice way to spend some time. It's somewhat imaginative, especially in the later chapters.

Some elements make me raise an eyebrow, but then I hear a voice in my head say: "...I'll allow it." And the characterization is pretty good too. I mean, I can actually recognize Naruto here. He's somewhat twisted but still recognizable. And Asuma...

Here, let me drop a line out of context just to fuck with you.

"Can you feel it Gai?" Asuma asked while pelvic thrusting after every other word for emphasis, "Can? You? Feel? It?"
Disgusted? You shouldn't be. I swear, this part was hilarious. I didn't just crack a smile here. I actually laughed out loud. Asuma's exuberance is just so much more entertaining than Kakashi's aloofness, there's no comparison.

This guy's writing is kind of like Black Dragon's if you scale the prose back, remove 90% of the OCs and halve the humor. In short, don't expect too much and you'll be pleasantly surprised. It's fun if you can get into it, otherwise, I recommend that you come back another day. It took me about half a dozen tries to get into this one.

Also, with this writer, I actually recommend skipping the first chapter. He kind of stumbles before hitting his stride.

Yeah, that's actually a good way of describing it. And another part that has been entertaining since he started doing it is the omake bits. The writer went with the excerpts approach to omake. Make amusing and potentially chapter relevant excerpts at the end of the chapter. Early ones show a bit of the awkwardness that Shiho would have in writing an instructional book based on a single case study. And the later ones switch for Jiraiya, making him very much in character and funny.

I propose that there should be another pruning of the TFF community archive. While, there aren't any... overly horrible fics in there. There more of those C or lower grade fics that have slipped in over the years.

I will refrain from saying anything if you guys feel that there is no need for a review of the list of fics.
