The Force Awakens Spoiler Thread

Apparently the baton trooper is Nines from the prequel novel, another one of Finn's squadmates.

Explains why he threw down for a melee fight, and didn't just shoot him. This was personal.

Well... that would explain why she was abandoned on a shitty junk planet at a young age... and why none of the old cast seems to recognize her... and also why she's insanely strong in the force... and oh god why is this making so much sense.

I don't care what the haters say though, I would still love Darth Jar Jar to actually be a thing in the upcoming movies

Yes.

Goddamn, it would be SO damn good that it would retroactively make the prequel trilogy better.

Because of this, the fandom gave us this:

Something else that bothers me...Kylo Ren's real name is Ben. Why? I'm decently positive Leia would never even have met Obi-Wan outside of when she was born, and while Han knew the guy, there wasn't really any social connection there outside of 'Guy who I'm on contract to take to Alderaan). If Ben had been Luke's kid sure, I could see it, but given he's Leia and Han's kid you would expect there to be numerous other people he'd be named after, like say Leia's adoptive father.

Then again, that seems to fit in rather a bit with some of the lazy symbolism that's already been noted in the movie.

Han and Leia probably just asked Luke to name their son. And Leia at least seemed to have a great deal of respect for the man, hence "Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi. You're my only hope."

Also they may not even realize that Luke was naming him after Obi-Wan, since that was the alias he only used while in hiding on Tatooine. Luke may well have been the only person Obi-Wan ever gave the name "Ben Kenobi" to.

I like to subscribe to the belief that they let Luke name their son since he's family and all, and they greatly respect him. And I have no doubt that Luke named him Ben out of respect for Obi-wan. As mentioned, obviously Leia had a great deal of respect for the man, and, well, Han did come around when it came to the Force, as the movie showed.

So apparently the table of Ashes Kylo Ren shoved his helmet down into just before Rey's interrogation.....well....
JJ talks about Kylo's box of ashes:

“The backstory is, that that table has the ashes of the enemies he’s killed,” Abrams says. “That moment was actually shot for, and meant to be used in, the scene where he was talking to the Vader mask.”
In other words, that table of ash was originally in Ren’s private quarters. And the fact that he incinerates and preserves the remains of his foes adds a new, eerie dimension to his Dark Side nostalgia — and hoarding tendencies.

So Kylo Ren...baths his helmet in the ashes of people he's killed.....then puts it on...breathing in their remains....

I'm pretty sure if Leia knew that she'd never have sent Han alone to bring him back.

After a few years of breathing in ashes, he'll be that much closer to Darth Vader who also had fucked up lungs and needed a respirator thingie

http://www.gq.com/story/adam-driver-jj-abrams-how-kylo-ren-got-so-emo

In a new featurette, Driver and director J. J. Abrams explain how Kylo turned into such a complicated baddie. Driver explains that Luke's teachings played a big role, as Kylo's separation from his parents during his Jedi training made him grow resentful of Han and Leia as he began to harness his powers.

"Imagine the stakes for him in his youth," Driver says of Ren. "Having all these special powers and having your parents absent during that process on their own agendas, equally as selfish. He's lost in the world that he was raised in, and feels that he was kind of abandoned by the people he was closest with."

Yeah, all right, Kylo. Basically, this privileged child is complaining because he had a cool-ass superpower and his parents allowed him to train that power with his legendary uncle who also happens to be the person most famous for having that same cool-ass power. I wish my childhood were so rough that I were stronger than all the other kids and my parents let me harness that power so I could be even stronger. This is why we hate teenagers.

Finally saw this tonight. Great movie, well worth the price of the Blu-ray. Some great acting, especially from John Boyega.

Really hoping to see Episode VIII in the theater, but will probably just see it at home.

I hope something like that happens in the movie.
