Well, it's the last night here in the UK for Mosh, Meinos and Eagle.

We've played pastry roulette and watched Dredd and Avengers (Assemble).

All that's left is a good night's sleep and an early start tomorrow morning to get everyone to the airport at the right time.

"Some people will be very lucky. Others will be incredibly jealous." - Just quoting Raa. I'll be framing the reason for this soon enough. :)

Since Meinos started this and Eagle posted the content, I'll be the one providing the story of our last adventure on British soil.

08:30 - Stanmore station.

We parted ways with our British member. With the risk of ruining his reputation, Raa's skills as a host? Over 9000!

08:45 - Somewhere in transition.

I start looking at my passport. My flight leaves at 11:00, baggage drop ends at 10:15, last entry at the gate is at 10:40 and there's something that just tickles me the wrong way. There's plenty of time I tell myself, the trip after our arrival didn't take that long, did it?

09:00 - Green Park

We switch lines, I'm still somewhat calm about it, I mean, half a hour should be enough, right? Right?

Poor naive bastard.

09:30 - Beginning the Trail of Stress

I keep looking at my boarding pass. Last hour for checking my luggage? 10:15.

09:40 - Middle of the Trail of Stress

The stations keep coming, I'm starting to pace around.

"Guys, I don't think I'm going to make it."

"We'll make it, we'll be cutting the line, but we'll make it," Eagle's one chill bro'. Meinos keeps looking at the panel with the stations.

09:50 - Trail of Stress - The Peak!

By now I'm starting to accept I'm going to miss my flight, start calling Raa so he can help me look for another flight (no internet available).

Eagle's like "Chill bro', we'll catch it."

At this point Meinos's train travelling experience comes into good use. "I think we have to get down at the next station," he says, very confident (for good reason I might add). "This train goes through terminal 4, it can delay there up to 8 minutes," he points out on the panel.

"OK," we get out at 09:52.

09:56 - Next train.

We jump right into the next train. It's heading straight towards the terminal 1,2,3 station!

10:00 - Hole in the Floor!

Time stretches, every second is like an infinity bottled up and unleashed upon my nerves.

10:04 - Terminal 1,2,3

We're at the station! But it's a long road towards the ckeck-in office, I'm starting to thing about alternatives. We start running like men possessed. Meinos goes ahead and opens the path.

10:09 - Following the arrows.

I stumble, Eagle grabs my baggage and pushes me forward "Go, go, go!" I have to reach the office before it closes!

10:11 - The promised land.

It's Meinos that finds the terminal (between us, the Italian's the fastest). "Mosh! It's here!" He all but drags me and throws me towards the lady at the office.

10:11 ¬ 10:12 - Destination.

I'm here! I made it!

"I'd like to leave my luggage for the flight to Bucharest!" I'm out of breath, but I made it!

"I'm sorry, but that's been closed..."

10:12 - Ummmm.... yah...

I waste a second, not knowing what to say, but then I spot the watch on the wall.

"Shouldn't it close at 10:15? There's still 3 minutes left," she looks at the watch and then consults with the supervisor. I'm not stressed any more, whatever happens, happens.

"You can still check in," glorious words! "Do you have any luggage?" and back to the pit I go. I start looking around.

"Yes," I finally manage to reply. I start looking around for Eagle.

"Sir," she's extremely polite, but I really don't like her message "Do you want to fly, or nor?"

Oh boy!

10:12 and ¬ 40 seconds!

Around the corner, like the cavalry of Rohan! There he was! Eagle, carrying my bag and his like a boss. The airport employee takes my luggage herself! We made it!

Or have I?

10:15 Heathrow

I take my goodbyes from the guys. Meinos, I haven't forgotten my promise for next year! ;) Eagle, keep on rolling mate! Everything is fine, but!

...I still have to make it through security.

10:30 - Security

Raa's on the phone.

"I almost missed my flight," not a bad way to start a conversation, "Still might!"

"Well, let me know," limiter's broken already Raa! "Just let me know if you'll come back."

10:29 - Security

I finally make it through security! I don't even have time to buckle my belt back as I rush towards my gate.

10:34 - A sign!

Finally, a sign! It points the way towards my gate. I'm close!

"Gate 24 - 10 minutes" Oh no, you're not! I've got my second wind and keep running, bags handing from my throat and the laptop dangling on my back.

10:38 - Gate 24

Gate 24 - A,B,C,D,E...

Flight at 11:00? Gate E. I rush there like a man possessed.

"Flight for Bucharest?" I ask, between wheezing breaths.

"Oh, no, that's the one at 24D!"

10:39 - Gate 24D

"Flight towards Bucharest?" I'm a sweaty mess of a man, as my four layers of clothing did a lot to help with the effort, mostly by making me feel like I was running in the Sahara.

"Yes sir, last one boarding."

Sorry mosh, I've dealt with that pain before. Had to sprint from one side of Atlanta international in my ACU's to make it from my arrival to departure in time

@Raa: I can't begin to say thanks enough to cover the great time I had this past week. It wouldn't begin to cover the time, attention, shenanigans and Injustice in general. Sir I tip all my hats to you, the host with the most (and not just rage!). Now to find a GOOD place to hang that magnificent poster you gifted me.

@Meinos: Signore! Many thanks for your kindness, and great attitude. I apologize if at any moment I cut you off during our conversations or talked over you, you and the rest of the quartet inspired me to talk more... and we all noticed I can be a bit manic some times :p My deepest condolences about the roundabouts.

@Moshulel: My friend, I'm very very glad I was able to help you keep calm during that stressful moment... to be honest I was just as nervous as you are, but my freaking out would not have helped you at that moment. Happy to know you got to your gate (juuuust in time) and that you arrived safely. Again, my most profuse apologies about the bear, and thank you again for the comments, concerns, ideas and critiques.

On a personal notes... I had to dump the pickled onions, idiot me didn't notice my check in baggage was overweight, and on re-packing, I put it in the carry on... the security team was kind enough to remind me of the 100ml restriction for carry on luggage.

So... where are we going to NEXT year/beerfest?

PS: Dammit Raa, you set the bar TOO DAMN HIGH!!! @_@

PS2: Next time, we make sure ALL our RETURN trips are scheduled for AFTER 12pm local time!!!

I'll drink to that!

I am glad that you all had a great time visiting me.

That said, I'll have to be careful who sees this thread - people will be expecting me to be a good host in the future.

Ironically, they are starting to tear up intersections here and install roundabouts all over the state, while other countries are getting rid of them. Some days I wonder if the highway engineers were sniffing too many asphalt fumes. The ones that confuse the hell out of people here are the two and three lane roundabouts. Even worse, the state has no information sent out about how to use them and the old folks (much older than me even) are so lost on what to do, you might as well have slapped them with a 5 day old salmon and thrown them into a car with no steering.

And so, in keeping the tradition alive...

RaaFest 2014: Attack on castlevania
This time it's Mosh hosting.

I heard he planned to drag us around Bran Castle (ohai Vlad Tepes III)

Day 1... Mosh and his minion (we call him Dan'iel) carted us around Bucharest for some good LATE NIGHT BREWS and nice sights.
crap... forgot to take the camera with me that night, and the cellphone was dead

Day 2... after a late morning a delicious breakfast courtesy of Mosh (Ladies! This man can cook!)
Dan'iel drove us to Vampire Country (at the border of Wallachia and Transylvania).

Bran Castle is BEAUTIFUL

The pension we're staying at is very snazzy.

Day 3... The People's Fortress (Citadel) of Râ?nov.

I'd love to joke about us LARPING, but it was more like posing for pictures :p

Dan'iel is still putting up with our brew dog shenanigans, tho his piro skill is leveled up well enough to start tonight's cookout.

PS: we miss you Meinos!

PS2: and of course, Sausages... It was a Tuesday

Again, I'm sad I can't join you guys, but since I'm back in school, I'm a bit broker than I usually am. Let me know if you guys are ever meeting in the Chicago Area. I've got some home brews that I've been saving for the last year or so, and would love an excuse to break them out.

Edit: Give us a bot more of a warning next time. I'm sure a couple of us would want to join in.

Mosh had commented at the end of last year's Brittish Invasion "Next Year Romania".
I wasn't sure how serious we thought he was... until he reminded us in late February. :snigger:

Day 4... the Marathon of Bra?ov city.

Today started as an early day, and after a solid breakfast, we started visiting Museums, Towers and crawled up a 900+ meter mountain.

Raa proving he's as surefooted as a Mountain Goatse.cx

I'm sure I'm not alone in hoping pics are forthcoming, especially of the castle. Would love to see that.

Sounds like you guys are having fun. Enjoy yourselves. Try not to get arrested. :)

Day 5... Castle Pele? near Sinaia (smack dab in the Carpathian Mountains!)

Disney wishes their magic kingdom castles were this beautiful and opulent.

We tried not to laugh at a bridezilla mouthing off at one of the (too cool) gardeners because they were closing the place for the day in the next 30 minutes.

Followed by some more Beer and fire roasted local cuisine (beef, pork, ribs and cheese).

RE: The Four Knights of Beer - 2014 Meetup

Day 6... Bu?teni town and up Bucegi Mountain to visit Babele.

The gondola ride was nice, the hike up the rest of the (approximately 2500mts high) mountain was hardcore.

We had to power through a second wind just to get back from the monument back to the gondola ride back down...
yours truly is not /fit/ enough to power walk all the way back to Bușteni town :snigger:
