"The many Deaths of Harry Potter" by ShayneT
Official description: In a world with a pragmatic, intelligent Voldemort, Harry discovers that he has the power to live, die and repeat until he gets it right.
Mine: ruthless/intelligent villains, somewhat time loopy (in a good way, you almost forget it's there). I felt like in a way reading something like "He Who Fights Monsters" by hawker-748. The feels are real. The desperation is real. It's a struggle, and it feels damn good. I got off my ass after not sleeping my night away to tell you guys about it.
Top 3 Harry Potter recently (~3 years) I would say. Easy.
Your rec is what prompted me to try the story out. Biggest complaint I have is that it's incomplete, but the author is making updates. The last one was less than 24 hours ago.
Has my recommendation for a good read too! Here's my summary,
At some point in his childhood, Harry gets killed. But then, he 'revives' (for lack of better term) to an earlier point in time, but keeps his memories. He then has to go about trying to avoid his death. In this story, he does die many times - the title is apt. From a pacing perspective, it's very similar to the anime Re:zero. A big difference with the anime, is that Harry isn't a dimwit. We don't see the same chapter or episode twice - there's usually some change or the other.
Then at around the latter part of the story, things change. i.e. Voldermort gets a clue that SOMEthing is going on. The butterfly effect is in full force - when Harry thwarts one of the Dark Lord's schemes, he makes a new one. Which means the timeline changes with new dangers for Harry to worry about.
In short: if you liked re:zero, this is worth reading. If you did'nt like that anime, you'll probably hate this story too.
Something I found really jarring, is grammar and typos. The story has them - and they ARE distracting. I really wish the author made use of a proof-reader.
Now, I need something else to read ...
