The only problem I have is what direction would you take it in? Are you going to follow canon loosely, and have Ichigo trying to regain his God powers?

Or is he going to keep the power, post Mugetsu?
Zangetsu is a reflection of Ichigo, and Ichigo is immortal. Zangetsu cannot be destroyed. He will come back, eventually. But it won't be fast enough. Ichigo will try to regain his powers through force, not dissimilar to how he's doing now. Exactly how that might play out, I intend to keep under wraps for now.

This seems like an interesting story would love to see more of it. Also, first post. :D

Hey, Raine. I read this on the phone, which is why I didn't leave feedback at the time. Typing on the browser is a bitch and a half.

I like it. It's a neat re-packaging of Ichigo as a cosmic horror, with a benign twist. Since you were the first to go Cthonic with Ichigo, I think it's fitting that you subvert the theory too.

My favourite part is probably Kyouka-tan, though. Poor abused sword-spirit getting out from Aizen's Hyougouku-stained clutches. (Clue, faggot - if the sword isn't enough for you, you're not worthy of it.)

Uh . . . about, uh, three years ago, Raine started sketching out a theory about Ichigo being . . . well, transcendental covers it, as does tentacled, probably. If you dig far back enough in the Manga Thoughts thread, you'll find at least two or three pages where he gives the whole spiel.

One of them had manga panels and shit as hard evidence, but they were probably from OneManga.

ôWonÆt this destroy you?ö

ôI already told you. IÆm immortal.ö

ôBut youÆre me.ö

ôAnd now you begin to understand just how special you are.ö
I always said you had a way with words. Thanks again for proving me right.

A very fine read, though I got a definitely more Lovecraftian impression from reading it than anything approaching benevolence. Then again, to paraphrase you, what can a two-dimensional creature understand of a three-dimensional creature's idea of benevolence?.

Certainly, I feel that Ichigo is currently benign - but as you say, there's no telling what mode of thought or ethics he may eventually embrace. Or how much they may warp we mere mortals.

If he starts offering Zanpakuto, though, I'm there.

Well written, compelling even though it is just a rewrite of cannon for the most part it's slight veer into a different path was well done. Still to short for me to claim love or hate, I hope you write a bit more!

Interesting. I don't even like Bleach, but as always LR, you tend to have a way with words, imagery and themes that make anything seem epic.

Question is, how did his creations end up in various souls over the ages? Was it intentional on his part, or a consequence of something else? Are all soul cutters in existance his creation? Were their abillities all based on his own powers back then?

This fic has epic potential right from the start and I hope utterly that you will continue writing it.

Interesting. I think I'll reserve judgement until I can see more. But seems like a good start.

This is exactly my own reasoning. In becoming what he did, Aizen abandoned Kyouka Suigetsu. She suffered incredibly from his treachery, and will leave him as a result of it. He had her bound to him as a slave through the power of the Hyougoku, but with that influence temporarily negated via Mugetsu, Kyouka Suigetsu will be free to leave. And she will.

After all, the Master has returned. What's more, the Master saved her. Her place is by his side.

They were, as that's the manga reader I (and pretty much everyone else) used at the time. So all the links and/or images would be broken. I could still recreate the argument for it, though, if you or anyone else is interested.

This entire idea was actually spawned from that one four line exchange. Everything else built on that.

Certainly, I feel that Ichigo is currently benign - but as you say, there's no telling what mode of thought or ethics he may eventually embrace. Or how much they may warp we mere mortals.
One of the things I tried to convey, though I'm not sure if I did very well, was that for much of the fight with Aizen, Ichigo really wasn't even paying attention to Aizen. Aizen was talking, but Ichigo wasn't really paying much attention to it. Aizen talks to him, and Ichigo modifies Gin's Wyrd to save his life. Aizen talks to him, and Ichigo soothes the air that Aizen is rending with his brutal approach to speed. Aizen is bragging about his power, and Ichigo wipes away Kyouka Suigetsu's tears and eases her pain with his presence.

I was trying to convey a sense that Aizen was so beneath Ichigo that Ichigo was not even really paying attention to him. The fact that the one time Ichigo initiated an exchange with him was over an emotion Ichigo felt from Aizen's blade, and not from something Aizen said, is deliberate.

I don't know if this came across very well or not, though. But I was definately going for an "arguing with God/Cthulhu vibe" there. Ichigo was detached. Not really paying much attention. He was doing other things with his power, and fighting Aizen was really more of an afterthought.

Question is, how did his creations end up in various souls over the ages? Was it intentional on his part, or a consequence of something else? Are all soul cutters in existance his creation? Were their abillities all based on his own powers back then?
All the Divine Spirits not currently in the Godrealm were created by the Sky King. Whether it was intentional or a consequence of something else will come up as a plot point. Their abilities aren't based off of his own; rather, they were created to reflect the power of the beings that dwell behind the Third Gate. The Zanpakuto are, in essence, neo-gods.

I've worked out a concrete plot for where I want this to go, and a sequence of events for how we're going to get there.

So, just for my own notes: by a show of hands, how many people watch the movies and the anime, as opposed to just reading the manga?

I watched some of the anime, but stopped after the Muramasa filler.

I watched until the group stopped translating it, forget their name. About episode 90 or 91 if i remember right. Just after the soul society arc.

Edit: I do read the manga though, every two to four weeks i update myself.

Anyway, can't wait for some awesome storytelling.

Well, its good; but only the parts that weren't a copy for a copy for what has already happened in canon.

In other words, less introspection and more original content!

You wanna write DIVINITY?! Fine, by all means; do so! But please, for all that is holy; don't rehash 70% of your first chapter for the 30% that's actually worth reading.

Sorry to necro, but could you supply this argument Raine? I'd really like to hear the argument for Cthuloid!Ichigo.

The basic gist of it was that Ichigo had so much spiritual power that it was cosmic in size. I never argued that he actually was some kind of Great Old One or something, but I did argue that his spiritual power was so vast that he might as well qualify as one on brute force alone.

It would take forever to actually find all of the pictures that I used again, especially seeing how I'm not completely sure which ones they are, but the general points went something like this:

Ichigo passively, without consciously knowing it, gives off an aura of spiritual power that exceeds the maximum amount that Ishida is capable of channeling at a given time by an exponential margin. This shocks Ishida, and for obvious reasons. Just the act of coming into physical contact with Ichigo's Zanpakuto bloated his energy weapon to something over ten times it's normal size. And again, this was passive. Ichigo wasn't even trying to do this, nor was Ishida actively trying to harness Ichigo's powers. This happened just through physical contact. That means this is what Ichigo is constantly giving off just in his day-to-day life.

It gets better, though.

Ichigo doesn't understand "spiritual control," because he's never had any. Ever. To him, his power has two modes. Off, and On. So what he's putting out is the maximum amount of spiritual power that his body is physically capable of expelling at any given moment, and as is shown later in the manga, before he began training under Yoruichi, he had no idea how to even do as much as turn it off. Which means that his power was constantly 'on' at all times. I'm going to say it again, because it's really important: he does this constantly as part of his everyday life without even getting winded.

It gets better.

As Ishida points out, going with it 'on' at all times just isn't possible. You would run out. Which leads us straight into. . .
