The MGLN Franchise

Synopses tell you what's the anime/work about, usually with a bit what makes it good. Like most things, you have to find out for yourself whether or not it is.

So either way, you'll be spending time assessing it. Now if you really want to know whether or not an anime is good or bad without watching it first, you ask people/read reviews. But people may not have the same taste as you, so depending on how interested you are, you still end up looking at it yourself.

Really, the only way for you and me to determine whether or not an anime is good is to watch it ourselves. You have your own criteria and I have mine, and Aki has his. Personally, going in blind just saves me the trouble of having people tell me their biased opinion about the anime.

Read synopsis, check rating. That's all you need. Synopsis gives you an idea of the premise and the genre, rating tells you how well it's regarded.

Thirty seconds probably saves you from dropping a series 1-3 episodes in.

You must be a very busy fellow then. Well, like I said, whatever floats your boat.

Nanya's fics were what drew me in.
Well, I didn't expect that.

@Hoki, it is one of the series that at the beginning titular character [Index] is still a main focus of the story or at least the story revolve around her. Then,at some point of the story, she was not so important anymore like she was only a supporting character. Suddenly, the Author decided to make her "kind of important" character...

Just like Nanoha from S1- Main character, story revolve around her,

A's- Still one of the main cast and somehow in the main focus of the story,

Strikers-Can't help it,the casts were bloated with too many new characters but she still somehow important to the plot,

Vivid-she was like a character from other series that make cameo appearance and not so important to the plot,

Force-Suddenly become a main character or at least one of the main cast, defeat new MC and somehow kind of important to the plot...

I agree with Zextrace opinion on the method of choosing which anime to watches.I mean there are too many anime nowdays and too little time for us to watches them all.

@Everyone, did some of you had problem with Final episode of A's on the TV? In my country, they replace the last episode of A's with Season 1 every single time!

It may look simple but a catchy title can help a series get picked up at least by curiosity when someone is seeking something to watch in a vast sea of options.
So you will pick up a series that you only saw the title of without knowing anything about it? A catchy title can still turn out to be a festering pile of wasted time.

To me I need atleast a good understanding and interest in one or more of these things: Animation/Characters/Story premise (if there is one). Watching the trailer is also immensely helpful.

Otherwise, I may as well write a bunch of anime names on pieces of scrap paper and put them in a box so that I can pick from them randomly. There is a lot of good anime out there, there is even more bad anime. Why waste your time watching something that you hate simply because you went into the series blind?

Of course, you can just watch anime with high ratings, that's usually going to save you from watching anime you dislike most of the time. But you still run the risk of watching a genre you don't like.
Since it was a manga, it was pretty easy to read one chapter, rate it and then leave the thing if I don't like it.

The Hucks made the series more interesting when they thrashed Signum. One of the reasons I wasn't following the series was because it was too predictable. The good guys always won and were never put in a crisis situation were they had all but been decimated. You knew Nanoha would recover and keep going and the bad guys would go behind bars. Nobody would get broken, killed or change sides. When the Hucks made that a possibility by being ambiguous (unlike most, I caught straight off the bat that the Hucks were actively looking for a permanent cure to their disease. When Hades appeared, it was all but confirmed I was right) I started eating Force with the same frequency I followed Bleach. It had gone from borderline shoujo to hardcore, WSJ styled shounen at the drop of a hat and I liked the feeling of uncertainty in the TSAB side. In fact, the only thing that I was hoping for that never had was a chance for Squall Leonhart to shine, since he seemed to be the most prominent of the family up until then. I was expecting him to fight and actually down Nanoha in battle for the TSAB to go into full blown panic mode once they realized Signum, Hayate, Nanoha and Vita were decommissioned by some start ups. If Thouma had somehow been told that the Hucks were actually looking for the Eclipse Origin, and made Thouma change sides at that very moment, the blow would have been much worse. Fate would've grieved having lost a child to the bad guys and having had Nanoha confined to an hospital bed for some time. Subaru would go full on depressed mode and Tia would've been unable to help them as the Hucks start to grow their number a la Vandenreich.

Too bad none of that ever happened. Seeing the TSAB nearing collapse and the Aces nowhere to be seen would've been epic.

Also, you guys are lucky you could get A's on TV. We didn't even get the Original Series in Spain!

Also, I had a dream with an Spanish dub of StrikerS airing on TV. It was insane.

Well, you were reading mahou shoujo + shounen hybrid, not seinen with tragedy...

So, spain didn't got both A's and Season 1? Then, how did the franchise became so popular to the extent of filling fan fic site with espanol fics?

Spain is not the only Spanish-speaking country on Earth, bro. The authors of those fics might be Mexicans or something. Also, I am pretty sure there are lots of Spanish subs out there.

Thanks for reminding me. Its almost that time of the year again xD. My resistance is already running low.

I didn't expect a tragedy, but shounen always have a point where the antagonist have trumped any and all possible contenders. Usually, it's the new guy who winds up saving the day, usually in an unorthodox way.

Also, Mexico. Mexicans, for some reason, ADORE magical girls. We Spaniards aren't into mecha and magical girl much. We are more your run of the mill, WSJ and nothing more fanboys...

Mexico indeed. If you see a fanfic in Spanish, it's more likely to be from Mexico, Argentina or even Chile than it is to be Spanish or, say, Colombian.

Besides, you're not obligated to finish a bad anime anyway.
I often feel a need to see the end of the story, just to have some closure, even if the journey sucks.

I don't remember how often I have followed that feeling, but it exists as a reason in and of itself to continue suffering through a piece of shit you wish you had known to avoid.

I'm sure you find solace in the fact that Force is in "indefinite hiatus" a.k.a unofficially cancelled.

On the contrary. It kind of pisses me off because I'm denied from getting closure. Once I kind of sort of got over my immense butthurt over Signum I grow curious where the story will lead after Tsuzuki decided to go EXTREME with the bad guys. I even got to grow fondness for some characters (even Cypha, I wished she could have a more interesting rivalry). But now the story is on hiatus and probably on its way to be cancelled which makes me feel that all my investment, harsh struggle and soul searching to try and make sense of the tragedy was all for nothing.

They started this clusterfuck and now I want to see it finished dammit. Make Signum's sacrifice to be worth for something.

Well, it's not like Signum died. She almost died but the writing staff didn't have the balls to go through with it.

Although, I can understand the feeling, especially since there now appears to be a three way battle in the storyline, with Hades being introduced as some sort of mastermind behind things. That alone makes me want to read Force more.

Her reputation died (don't get fussed over it, its an Akiyoshi thing). Signum is still cool but she would never be the same. In fact, nothing was the same anymore after that fight. On chapter 6, on May 29, 2010.

5th anniversary. We're almost there, Signum.

Masaki Tsuzuki did not have the balls to go through with it.

Also, there are not enough "called it"s around.

So, that 29th of May was about?

Anyway, I agree with Sunder. I feel the need to read the end of the story even though I hate the story. That feeling...it drive me crazy!Forcing me to finish shitty story. Most of its . Not all of them.(Index and Fairy Tail)

I mean the whole "the Huckebein are NOT the bad guys, so why are you hating on them?" thing. Hell, the first song I played after seeing Curren shaft Hayate was a Tales of Vesperia OST since she reminded me of Yuri the motherfucking Lowell!

Force series start 6 years after strikers right? When did Touma meet with Subaru?

Akiyoshi

At some point before Vivid apparently. In the PSP games Tohma mentions knowing about a younger Vivio from his brief time with the Nakajimas but not about Einhart. Also he looked pre-teen when he met Subaru and in the main story he seems to be around 15-16.

well, that weird. I mean, up to chapter 50s, they didn't mentioned him a single time...

Hoki

Then you realize Force is set two years after Vivid, which makes Touma 14, as he is just two years older than Vivio.

Well, whatever the case may be when it comes to Thoma meeting Subaru, he was only his own for at least four years, 'cause IIRC he has met Einhart in the manga, who was an unknown until 0079--the attack on his hometown in Vaizen was in 0074, and Subaru joined RF6 only a year after that, so...

Which mean if FORCE and Vivid are in the same universe,Thoma will meet Subaru in the next year of Vivid
