The Pokemon Topic

What do you guys think the next big mystery gift is going to be? And what do you hope it is?

I really enjoyed the shiny Beldum. Metagross was always one of my favorites, and his shiny was always awesome.

So I'm wondering....

What is your guys current Secret Base Flag count?

I'm at 891 Flags currently and trying to hit the 1000 mark by sometime next week.

Sucks that I can only get new bases every 8 hours off the PSS, but at least adding people to my base (then removing them) helps me net additional flags.

Does the whole Flag thing have any actual in-game Reward? Or is it just another fun little thing to do for its own sake like trying to complete a pokedex?

Bronze: 10 Flags will net you a Blackboard you can write on, additional items in the Secret Base Headquarters that you can buy and an additional skill your secret base pals can use.

Silver: 100 Flags will net you a Juke Box decoration, more items in the Secret Base Headquaters to buy, and a third skill your secret Base pals can use.

Gold: 500 Flags will net you a Mood Lighting decoration, more items that you can buy at the Headquarters as well as being able to take a picture of the current team in your base at any time, and a fourth skill your secret base pals can use.

Platinum: 1000 Flags will net you a Confetti Ball decoration, a Garchompite, and allow you to use 2 skills per day from each of your secret base pals.

You do have to talk to Arune every time you reach the limit of each level to gain the new things that each new flag level brings.

Fuck my ass.

Man, I haven't done anything for these secret bases, and now you tell me it's the only way to get garchompite?

Trust me, it's a GIANT pain in the ass, but it's not that hard. The flags reset at midnight and your secret base pals will give you additional flags if they've collected any flags that day and you've street-passed/Passed-by-online.

The additional flags from your secret base pals are easier if you find people with either bronze, silver, or gold flags as they are still possibly collecting the flags and will give you some.

Speaking of which...I FINALLY got the 1000 Flags needed to get it all :D

Don't forget that you can always scan QR codes you get off the internet. There's plenty of Pokemon fans who've probably put their codes online for you to scan.

JWittz does a thorough exploration of Super Secret Base mechanic (in case you wanted to know what else you can do with one, as they seem like they could be a more interesting mechanic than one might think) and has his QR code in the video, but I'll link it here too.

Welp since I'm more or less done with Secret Bases (still gonna get at least an Elegant Desk (already got), and either 1 or 4 Elegant Chairs to go with it), I'll throw my QR Code for my Secret Base up for everyone.

It's on route 111 I believe.

Thought I would throw this up here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mkm-U7Myh0E&list=TLNP91m1zK1Y4

YAY!!!

We're FINALLY getting the Unova Trio with their HA.

Serperior with Contrary, Emboar with Reckless, and Samurott with Shell Armor.

Serperior is up for download now using the code POKEMON497.

Emboar will go up with its code next week and Samurott will only be available for download with the code that'll come with the February Pokemon Trainer Club Newsletter on February 5th, 2015.

All three codes will run from their start date (Jan. 22nd, Jan. 29th, and Feb. 5th respectively) to November 30th, 2015.

Welp, Contrary Leaf Storm Serperior is now legal.

It's a Serial Code Wi-Fi event. As long as you have the code, you can get your own copy of the Pokemon.

It's only running from today until November 30th, 2015.

I apologize for double posting, but I figured it'd be okay if I throw out new info.

Hidden Ability, Reckless, Emboar is now up and active running until November 30th, 2015. As with Serperior, you can only use the code once per game, but the code is the same for everyone to use.

That code is POKEMON500.

Also...does anyone have a(n extra) Meloetta that they'd be willing to trade me? I do have an Action Replay for X/Y/ORAS, so I could make a Ditto you own have 6 31 IV's to make it easier for breeding Pokemon.

Meloetta is the ONLY Legendary Pokemon from across all 6 Generations that I do not have.

If you guys wish to do the trade, please PM me as I have all day off today, so I'll be able to reply sooner.

Thanks guys :D

Right time to plug a doujin. Will probably do this here and in the Manga thread since Pokemon.

http://bato.to/comic/_/comics/pocket-monsters-festival-of-champions-doujinshi-r12187/

This is quite simply what I've been waiting for, for a very long time. I still hold the Adventure series to be largely great, quibbles aside, but this right here is a doujin with not only great artwork that I like quite a bit, but also great battle tactics. Using the can't miss move swift to go under ground and follow after a Sandslash as targets for a thunder attack to make them explode, causing the ground to be destroyed and leave the Sandslash prone for attack was brilliant, and I expect may more moments like it. This one looks like it'll be fun.

North America is going to get a Hoopa event soon; Hoopa's base form will be available in X/Y, but its Unbound form will only be available for OR/AS.

I bring this up because I like Hoopa and I like its Psychic/Ghost typing, flawed as it is.

Pokemon Sun and Moon coming out holidays 2016. Be hyped.

Things I would like to see in Sun/Moon which aren't new typings
* A Dark-type gym. This type has existed since second generation but has never had a gym
* The alternate forms of Zygarde, unless they're going to be a big part of a "Pokémon Z" version later
* An enhanced version (Mega, alternate form, etc) of Volcanion. Diancie got a Mega and Hoopa has his Unbound form; Volcanion shouldn't be left out.

New typings I would like to see any of in Sun/Moon
* Normal/Ghost
* Fire/Fairy, Dark/Fairy, Ghost/Fairy
* Fairy/Fighting
* Ghost/Fighting, Electric/Fighting, Ice/Fighting, Ground/Fighting -- none of which have ever happened and most of which could be amazing

Seeing as Japan has such a rich Martial history, there's a significant association with the Fighting-type and "Heroes." Hence why Fighting is super-effective against the Dark-type (Evil-type in Japan.)

As Gym Leaders are supposed to be pillars of the community or something like that, I doubt that they'll ever be a Dark-type Gym.

No 1 on my wish list would be Gym Leaders following the example of the Elite 4 of recent Gens, and being able to be fought in any order. Even having different teams for early, mid and late-game would be fantastic.

No 2 would probably be Mega Marowak with Parental Bond. I want.

My pokemon wishlist:

1) Multiple save files.

2) Difficulty settings. Especially a hard mode for older players like me. I actually never finished X because the game was so damn easy that I got bored.

3) Revamped HM system. I'm tired of having to waste team slots on combat worthless HM slaves. Giving each pokemon a couple of extra field-exclusive move slots would probably be the best way to do it. They could also turn the HMs into key items, or buff them all to actually be good, competitive moves.

Alter type advantages so we could get an alternative starter trio type, either something like Fighting/Dark/Psychic where they're all immune or super-effective against one another (Dark is currently immune to Psychic) or where the final forms of the classic Fire/Water/Grass trio have a secondary type where the secondary type is weak to the secondary type of the Pokemon who is normally weak to the Primary type (ie. a Grass/Flying Pokemon would be strong against a Fire/Fighting Pokemon on secondary-typing)

I'm thinking Multiple save files was already possible with the 3DS games, but Game Freak gonna Game Freak with tradition. Same with difficulty, though playing Set vs Shift style does make a minor difference.

I've always used set style ever since I first learned what the option does. I never understood why shift is the default or why the player isn't penalized in some way for using it. I mean, it's straight up cheating; the enemy trainers are never allowed to change their pokemon when they K.O. yours, nor are you allowed to do it in multiplayer battles.

I also turned off that absurd experience share item. I can't believe how overpowered they made it in X and Y. It no longer divides experience among your pokemon or requires some kind of trade-off like being held by the pokemon. Now it just straight up gives 50% of the EXP points to every nonparticipant in your party. It literally creates free experience points from nothing. It even gives noncombatants effort values!

Even doing these two things, I never lost a battle in X and Y and my main team consistently outleveled everything by at least 10 levels. I got bored with curbstomping everything after my seventh badge and haven't played the game in months.

Actually that just reminded me of another pokemon request of mine:

4) Enemy trainers with more pokemon. Seriously, the only trainers that ever carry a full team of six pokemon are always joke trainers with nothing but magikarp or something. I'm pretty sure the only legitimate trainer with a full team is the fucking champion. The gym leaders only use two or three, and even the elite four only have four pokemon each. Why does every other trainer in this game handicap themselves like that?

Most likely it's so you don't have to return to the Pokemon Center to heal after every couple of fights.  The gym leaders are TECHNICALLY designed to be fought right after numerous battles, though I'm pretty sure most people go back and heal right before fighting them.  And the Elite Four are the first fights of the endurance battle ending with the champion..

Anf if you put 2, please either make it a choice from the start or put 1.
Seriously, BW, "you finished the game! now erase your save to start in another difficulty! depending on your version it can be harder or easier"
