So it seems someone else will be stepping into the shoes of Captain America.

Any thoughts on who the new guy is?

Well, the answer is obvious.

I mean, its gotta be the guy who actually HAS the Cap'n's shield at the moment...

Wasn't there going to be the crossover with the past Cap showing up in it. That could cover this.

Guys come on. It's obviously going to be Steve Rogers yet again. The Captain America that was killed was a clone. His 'death' was actually staged by Fury because of an insidious plot involving Skrulls.

But seriously I have no clue. Haven't really followed up on Marvel in a while.

While I don't really follow comics, wasn't it stated in the news that Captain was gonna be retired till at least 2010?

Modern, Normal Universe Cap.

They had plans for a crossover involving their WW2 Hero team showing up for a storyline on Modern Earth. Ultimate Cap is still around

Cap's been replaced periodically over the years; this is nothing new, really. I think like six people have held the title.

Personally, I think it'd be interesting if they had a female Cap...

.... meh, but then again, I think a female could work as any of the current super heroes.. don't mind me.

Bets for a replacement:

Punisher has a poor chance in hell. He took the costume at the end of civil war, but he's a freaking psycho. Not bloody likely.

Hawkeye has decent chances, but doesn't really want the job. He was already asked to give the costume a shot, and did pretty well with it, though he dislikes Iron Man and was told off by some unregistered hero kids for wearing the costume in the first place. Has said no, but is probably the man who was closest to fitting the ideal of captain america, a human man at the peak of human condition but still only human, a close relationship/rivalry with the man, and he has the inspire and get others to do what he says. He's shown his leadership abilities with the Thunderbolts, although that got screwed over when he spent time in jail and they went to another dimension. Still, he's a respected hero, and wasn't involved officially on any side of the civil war conflict, so nobody really has a reason to hate him except for his former reputation as a villain (which he's long been forgiven for) and as a member of the thunderbolts (ditto).

Winter Soldier is the most likely candidate in spite of his history. As Cap's former partner, and how he's heavily involved with the current going ons of Cap's comic book, and the he's willing to arm himself for lethal damage (hence the black look in those pics), he's a pretty good bet.

USAgent...is in Canada. I don't think more needs to be said there.

Someone new...not likely. Less likely than even the punisher.

Peter Parker. Well, his books are in the toilet (not particularly sales wise, but writing wise...). I could see it happen as a stunt to raise more attention to him with six books called "The Amazing Captain America", "The Sensational Captain America", "Spectacular Captain America", "Friendly Neighborhood Captain America", "Peter Parker: Bearer of the Flag", and "Cap'n Spider-Flag Guy".

The costume sure looks like a mix of the classic Cap and the Punisher costumes. Plus, Cap has always been a shining symbol of the American ideals/system. Frank Castle is the person that doesn't believe the system works. It could make for an awesome story with insane amounts of character depth (I'm not saying it would. Hell, I consider it unlikely with Marvel doing the things it does. But it COULD).

Sadly, I agree with Stranger in that the smart money's on Steve.

It'd be lame if it was Steve. Unlike his marvel self, this guy is an idealist first and foremost. Whenever his faith in his country wavers, he takes off the flag and hands it to someone else until his faith is restored. To end up putting the costume back on with 'edgy' black is horribly lame.

is it just me or did they just give Cap standard Peace (Police) Officer gear minus hand cuffs and plus a canteen?
Baton, Gun, Magazine Clips, etc.

that said he just looks lame, chances are Marvel would tell me i'd get used to it, but that's what DC said about Superman and his "Powerless with Giant Guns" phase.

edit: sorry, i mistook the knife for a baton, so it's more like army gear with a pistol.
