Harry Potter The Reveal

#1
OK, I first wrote this several years ago as a sort of starting point for a fic. This wasn't the beginning of the fic but it presented such a powerful image I had to write it first. Now the below was the very first bit, posted a few days before anything else and several people in the Yahoo! Groups I posted it to contributed their own continuations, now I'm offering that chance to TFF members. I'll probably post what did in about a month given how fast TFF moves.

Her best friend in the whole world, one Harry James Potter, was being even more mysterious about his date then she had been about hers (Viktor Krum, currently standing next to her) and it definitely didn't help that The-Boy-Who-Lived was running late; Professor McGonagall had already called for the Champions, and everybody else had been ushered into the Great Hall during which Hermione had seen that several girls seemed to be competing to be TriWitch Slut, but Harry and his date (or dates, she had heard him make that slip of the tongue several times but she wasn't sure if bringing two or more girls to the dance was allowed) had yet to arrive.

Did he even have a date? Ron had found it difficult to find one and in the end had accompanied one of Ginny's friends in third year, a nice (if decidedly eccentric) Ravenclaw girl by the name of Luna Dolphin Lovegood.

Eventually, Hermione spotted Harry walking down one of the spiral staircases.

Think about it, the girls will be going all out to look their best, some are not going to succeed or are going to go too far

It just clashes with the kind of image I've built up of Hermione's voice, inner or otherwise.
I could imagine Ginny thinking that, but not when she's a third year. Not Hermione, of all people.

Also it's a different kind of bitchy than I'm used to hearing from Hermione, y'know? I could see put-downs, sure, but in a somewhat subtler manner than just going outright to calling other girls bitches 'n whores, you dig?

She's not actually calling them that, just thinking that the way some of them are acting and dressing that that's the goal here

You're not getting it, mate. It's not the content of what you've written that bothers me or anything. Yet, because there's hardly anything there.
It's the way you phrased it that seems off for Hermione to say or to to think.
That's what I'm taking issue with.

This is so~~~o not helping your image from the MGCA threads, dude. Maybe they're wearing revealing dresses, but unless your Hermoine is going around thinking every female around is some kind of ho-bag, the odds of her thinking "Tri-Wizard slut" is going to be low. And that just brings to mind all kinds of terrible thoughts.

Well apart from the fact that I wrote this 3 years before I ever heard of MGCA
That... That's not even remotely related to what we're saying (or I am, at least, and what I'm taking from goldenarms' post).
Hell, it's not even a good answer to his claim, either, as your opinions could've remained the same over the years.

I'm starting to question if you're all there, to be honest.

The combination of a generally cheerful and calm personality, in contrast with the somewhat terrifying assumption that people (esp. women) are, like, "objects" rather than people....

I'm reminded of nicknumbers.

ANYWAY,

If you want to put lipstick on this particular pig, so to speak, then I'd suggest you reach to The Judgement of Paris for this particular episode. That's got a lot of mythological foundation to work with?

OK, sorry I think I get what you're saying now, and Hermione thought is that a number of girls are dressed in a less then pleasing manner
