I know Rooster Teeth doesn't do April Fools jokes. The company was founded on April Fools day 13 years ago when Red vs. Blue first appeared. It's against company policy to play pranks on the community. But this? This has all the trappings of an April Fools joke. Plus, it appears too "kiddy" compared to the tone of the volume 3 finale.

I disagree. While the main series is getting a lot more serious, this seems like a good little chance to do a bit more slice-of-life/comedy bits.

And hell, Attack on Titan did the same thing, and it's WAY worse compared to how RWBY ended.

I was gonna say, this could've been made because of volume 3's ending tone.

Assuming it's not, in fact, an April Fools joke.

I have to wonder, with the series going the way it is, you have to wonder if they are actually going to burn Jaune to death. Maybe a I'll take you with me kinda thing.

They already played up the whole Joan/Winchester thing, but we'll see, I guess.

Well Ruby's mom was called Summer, so maybe Ruby is the Summer or Spring maiden idk.

I am sorta excited bout them going to Haven though, I wanna see more of Team ABRN

Honestly, I'm assuming that it would be the Winter Maiden, since she froze the dragon from what I recall.  Summer being the Winter Maiden has a bit of irony for the naming convention, and it would explain why Ruby inherited the power.  Also adds a bit more foreshadowing to it, since a major plot point for the reason was the Maidens.  Still a bit surprising, but again, her silver eyes were the reason she got let in two years early, so not as much Deus Ex Machina as some people are thinking.  Also ties in a bit with Red like Roses part Two.  Summer's part is saying how she didn't want Ruby to live the life of a Hunter, but her death forced a bigger sacrifice onto Ruby.  (Could be remembering it wrong.)

Doubt the Ozpin is dead, since he seems to be one of the big good guys, and losing him could prove catastrophic.  Leaning towards him being held captive or simply out of commision.  Might even be working with Qrow under the radar, much as Cinder was doing for the first couple of seasons.  Would be delicious turnaround, and it's not like he has a school to run anymore.

Roman... not entirely convinced that he's dead.  Being eaten doesn't necessarily mean that he's dead, and I could easily see him blowing it up from the inside, and walking away saying "not my worst day ever."  Would liek to see him come back as a freelancer, or even just see him doing business as usual, now that his part in Cinder's plot is finished.

Mysterious woman we saw... I'm assuming she's a Grimm.  One who has evolved to the point where she is the equivalent of a Queen to them.

Think my favorite part of the seaosn was seeing the other teams and a nations a bit.   Most of them probably won't take up a major role, but it was fun to see them fight against a wider variety of opponents than the Grimm or the Badguys.  Kind wonder what the bad guy team name would be..
Roman
Cinder
Emerald
Mercury
Neo
Adam

CREAMN?  Either Team Cream with a silent N, which seama appropriate, or Creamin', which just sounds dirty.

So, anyone want to make up some RWBY characters?  Could be fun.

The animation's changed, I quite like it. Not sure why Ruby was wondering the Forest on her own though, since she does seem to still be with Team JNR.

Gotta love the "try a free month for free" oh wait, you have to pay for it, and then get scammed because non paying members actually get to watch newest episodes on time, unlike paying customers :D.

So yeah, first episode of the new volume:
Salem ironically has a team of liutenants whose names form the team name WTCH, consisting of a smug old guy, growly big muscly guy, a psychopath tracker and Cinder.
Silver Eye powers counter Maiden powers hard, Cinder is fucked up, this alongside some other things makes me wonder if Ozpin and Salem both predate current Remnant humanity.
Salem tells the psycho to capture and bring Ruby to her.
Back with team JNRR/RNJR, the team is clearing up some ghost/possesion grimm in return for some work on their gear.
Storm Flowers are now also boomerangs.
Magnhild can now fly without firing the grenades, it also has an electric power charge strike function.
Jaune gets a bigger breastplate, as well as armored gauntlets, with kinda meh dark gold/green accents, his shield now sports a very familiar design, with accented edge, and his sword got some too, blacksmith mentions some modifications, but somehow I'm not sure he could put a gun into it.
Ever wondered what was on Jaune's shirt? It was Pumpkin Pete rabbit himself. How the hell did he miss that when he met Pyrrha? Especially as the hoodie is in his current size, a plot hole?
Loved the amusing parallel to Volume 1 with the lack of a map, and Ruby throwing in her quiet "nope".

Glad to see that humor hasn't disappeared from the series.  Volume Three left me a bit worried there, so good to see that it's still present.  Probably a bit reduced for some of the other characters, but hopefully not completely erased.

Liking the fact that the story is covering more territory, so to speak.  Not sure how that will affect the pacing, since we now have four entirely separate plot lines, instead of two to three plotlines that have a great deal of overlap, but from how the series gets longer every Volume, I don't see it being much of a problem, since they'll have more airtime to play around with.

The series is definitely following the Star Wars  plot so far.  Volumes 2 and three had stuff happening, but the good guys won for the most part.  Volume three, bad guys got a major victory, and Cinder, the traitor to the good guys, got maimed like Vader did.  The real big bad is revealed and takes center stage, supported by underlings.

This means this Volume should have the equivalent of a Death Star.  Looking forward to what it is.

Was expecting a bit more angst from jaune about how he wasn't strong enough. Glad he's not all whiny about it, and loved the tribute he made to Pyrra, using her gear to improve his own, and keeping her close, so to speak. A bit sad, but ti's the kind of guy he is. As for giving it a gun, we've seen gunblades before. Wouldn't be hard to have his sword split apart and have a rifle inside of it.

Kind of Hope Pyrra appears again this season. Not expecting her to be suddenly alive again, but having them reminisce about her, having a flashback, or just Jaune thinking of what she would say to him would be nice.

My reaction to ep 2:

Due to how they put tiny things that will be important later on, I keep overanalyzing everything I notice in these episodes.

Ruby seemingly has a light headache when she wakes up from her first dream, possible discovering and training the silver power / jedi force (someone likened this to the SW so, yeah).

We finally got to see how Jaune is dealing with what happened, that heaving for breath after he did the combo was telling as fuck, goddamn.

Also, apparently RT themselves are showing some of the not yet seen moves of teams RWBY and JN_R in Grimm Eclipse:
Jaune can do a aoe powerstrike, shield rushing bash and a shield slam that knocks back opponents as an aoe (he does this in the OP, just without the knock down effect being shown), so essentially, Jaune has 1 out of 3 his game moves.
Nora has the added electricity specials, the electric charge up smash was one, her new ranged option is electric grenades it seems.
Ren has his warp palm strikes, except he can do them in a combo on multiple surrounding enemies, and even project his aura to strike multiple enemies in a single strike, basically just his basic head exploding palm strike being even stronger.

So, Weiss has her seven dwarves in her butler (Klein Sieben - Little Seven), and thinking of it, it makes me wonder who might end up Jaunes Giles de Rais, incoming female dust mage?

L3fty's post brings up a good point, how are we handling talking about this season. Are we going by site release or Youtube or does it matter?

Well, I saw people talking about the second episode so I went ahead and did it.

That said, I get not talking about the episode when it has only been released for Premium Members. However, right now it's available for anyone with a free account at their site so it should be fine I think.

Are reaction images fine? If not my bad.

As for when to talk, how about every monday?

Technically, the episode releases for free on their site on sunday evening in my timezone, so, we could put actual spoilers under spoiler tab until monday while image reactions are free to go as long as they only present your personal reactions to the episode overall, without textual clues on what exactly happened?

What is your impression of the first fight by the way? I personally found it devolved even further from volume 3 fighting choreography, it now has even longer useless character posing (figure posing for sales khm), and dramatic pauses everywhere, with waving grenade paths, and straight up ufo bullets, I mean, Mercury at least looked like he was directly manipulating the dust explosions to act as they were in his fights, unlike this, fire bullet or grenade, they start doing whatever on their way to target.

The choreography was stilted, but I thought it was fine considering their switch to Maya. Of course, I'm not really expecting Monty levels of choreography in RWBY anymore - unless they get the guy from Death Battle that animated the major 3D fights, and even then it's a step down - so I'm much more invested in the story. But yeah, it's definitely a noticeable downgrade, but it's an understandable one.

Or maybe...

Just maybe...

You can use the spoiler tags, like they're meant for?

Personally I would prefer based off of Youtube, since I've never had good luck streaming on roosterteeth, but yeah, using spoiler tags would probably be good, preferably with a header stating Volume and episode number.

Might have spoken too soon about keeping things somewhat light.

Facial expressions seem more animated, but I agree that it seems the body language is a bit stiffer.

Listening to Pyrra's recording has got to be pure torture to Jaune right now.  All those little moments when she wants to say how she feels, and now he's clued in so he can recognize them... Damn bro.

Definitely agree with TC.  Fic I started writing is going to need a lot of revising.  Knew I should have posted it before the new season premiered.

Episode 3, which I watched 1 hour later due to DST shenanigans, anyway:
Blake is jumpy as heck, pulls her sword at any sound around her, Sun is tailing her, they get to help the boat take down a Shenlong expy with electric beam breath, both shadow and electric clones can now be used for air throws and as jumping platforms, RIP physics in RWBY fights since volume 4 I guess.
Yang gets a shiny gift from Atlas, Irondaddy is subtly apologizing for not beleiving her about the Mercury fight, unless the writers decided it was not a big thing and Irondaddy is really just that self important. Can't wait for her to recover and start busting shit up again.
Salem totally expects Ozpin to be alive somewhere, she is also very interested in finding some kind of a relic in Beacon, orders the Grimm to reinforce their position there.
Cinder on the other hand has to master her own fear and make the new "Grimm fix" fear her instead, Grimm Maiden Cinder incoming I guess.
