The Worst/Dumbest Character Deaths

We all have at least one, right? That event in which a character dies and it leaves us outraged, because it either makes no sense or it is so sudden and out of place that it leaves us frothing at the mouth. What are yours?

The most prominent on my mind is Fallout 3. Not only because of how out of the blue the matter appears, but also because some of your companions could do it without dieing -hell, some would HEAL!- but they won't. Why? Because DUTY! AKA forced shoehorned choice between DERPHEROICSACRIFICEDERP or make an innocent woman sacrifice herself. God damn it, Bethesda...

Hey, they at least fixed that with Broken Steel. Bethesda listened.

For me, it's probably Harpuia, Fefnir, and Leviathan in Mega Man Zero 3. Capcom says they were destroyed when Omega blew up at the end of the game... even though A) each one had recently been fully repaired moments before, B) didn't get damaged when they showed up to take a few swipes at Omega, C) were farther away from Omega than Zero was when Omega blew up, and D) Zero was potentially worse off than those three in terms of damage, yet survived being at ground zero.

It was a fucking asspull of an explanation to explain why they weren't in Mega Man Zero 4 and beyond.

Thane Krios in Mass Effect 3. Yes, I know they wanted to give him some epic last moment before he died, but here's the thing. They obtained that by making Shepard and company complete idiots. Even ignoring that they had several clear opportunities to fire, they could have just rushed Kai Leng.

Legion from Mass Effect 3. Honestly I get the feeling that Rannoch was really just thrown together, because I can't see any actual reason why Legion couldn't just send the information to the other Geth. What part of it required all of the programs in Legion to be permanently destroyed?

Every time someone dies and stays dead even though the game has reviving items. Hell, some of those items outright say that the character was revived from death in gameplay.

Faldio from Valkyria Chronicles.

So you dragged Maximilian down with you in a fall to ensure his death. Great for you. But couldn't you just have thrown him down the hole instead? It's not like you were dying or even wounded compared to the other guy. And with your death, the truth about the past vanish too. Great job, moron.

Mass Effect 3 should also be nominated for Shepard becoming a bit of a useless bystander in everything but gameplay. That is some serious character death. Most of the cut-scene deaths were preventable if Shepard didn't just stand there watching (like in Thane's case where Shepard has a weapon drawn on Kai Leng but apparently becomes totally inept at finding a clean shot despite the gameplay showing otherwise).

Oh and Tali's suicide if things go south with the Geth/Quarian thing.
And Miranda's death if you don't warn her about Kai Leng.
And Phantom-Jack, Cerberus-bot Legion and Banshee Morinth.

Final Fantasy 7, Aerith. She died in front of the entire party because no one thought to go up to where she and Cloud were despite him frequently showing a loss of control while Sephiroth is around. Both Vincent and Barret could've shot Sephiroth going by how slow it took for him to fall with that sword.

Shazam - Injustice. Dammit Superman, that shouldn't have even worked.
Cole McGrath - Rendered moot by Second Son... which had a pretty crappy plot.
The protagonist of Resistance 1-2. His replacement was a bore and him lasting until that exact point was rather cliche considering he had the chance to get his needed treatment.

Just about every god in God of War. Seriously, the games were just one long circlejerk on how Kratos could beat anybody despite being killed multiple times and simply fighting his way out of the afterlife.

Desmond in Assassins Creed 3. It didn't help that the game was subpar, but to have such a puppy kicking ending and then the following present-day plot being so bland... ugh.

Pixie - X-men Destiny.

Clive Barker's Jericho: The final boss instagibbing half your freaking squad for no real reason.

Mortal Kombat 9. Almost all the good guys in a single cut scene against Sindel. Liu Kang killed by Raiden simply because Liu had enough of his shit.

Metal Gear Solid series - Paz
