Thorn Rider

I would like your opinion about this idea.

The basic idea is that Eragon's dragon is Thorn instead of Saphira. As Thorn is male and most likely more 'savage' than Saphira, I am certain that this will create a far more different Eragon compared to canon. Please note that Eragon will most likely be OOC, and the story will diverge from the canon quite early. This means AU.

So gonna try to explain the idea as good as I can. Sorry if it seem a little random.

Morzan is alive, and so is his dragon - both are the champions of the Empire.

Brom is the leader of Varden, and sits in the Dwarf Capital, trying to bring Galbatorix and Morzan down.

Urgals have banded together, making a tribe nation in the desert east of the Empire. Currently neutral towards both Empire and Varden/Elves/Dwarves.

The Varden spy in the Capital of the Empire thinks that red is prettier color than the other two, hence he smuggles out the red egg, successfully getting it to Varden and elves, who spend years trying to get it to hatch.

And Arya, escorting the egg to the Varden after the elves have failed to hatch the egg for the nth time, is ambushed by Morzan. Her bodyguards manage to give her enough time to allow her to begin a teleportation spell.

However, since he is Morzan, he pwnz the guards quickly and interrupt Arya focusing, which makes her fuck the spell up, and the egg is teleported somewhere on the continent. She have no clue where though, and Morzan, furious decides to bring these three elves back to his cozy little citadel in Gil'ead for some nice torture and stuff.

Meanwhile, far off north in the mountains of the Spine, a certain farmer boy/ part time hunter sees a shiny red rock appear from nothing. Intrigued, he grabs it and inspects it, concluding with a noob opinion that it might be some sort of egg.

Pitty patter that the egg suddenly hatch, and a cute red little winged lizard appears. He finds it creepily adorable and decides to take care of it.

He keeps it a secret from his family and the village, hiding it in The Spine, and finds out that the reptile is a dragon, it knows magic and it have marked him as it's partner/rider/buddy. Eragon, who don't really have any real friends (family don't count) accept with pleasure and it gives him a silver mark on his hand.

The dragon and Eragon grow closer and closer, becoming allies and partners in the way of the hunt. He names it Thorn after its claws that are shaped like the thorns on a rose (he's a illiterate farmer-boy, give him a break) and they learn together that they can use magic, which they practise slowly and steadily, using Eragon's imagination and Thorns natural talent.

And for years the boy and his dragon lives in the Spine, growing stronger and faster and more powerful for each day.

However, one winter the village is unable to get enough profit from its farming and hunting, leading to them being unable to pay the total amount of taxes that the government demands. This leads to the dreadful "Galbatorix Judgement", aka burning the village and taking the survivors as slaves, a fate all citizens of the Empire have to face if they don't pay their tax in time.

So the soldiers of the empire comes marching, with torches and everything. Eragon, who is returning from the mountains, sees the bad guys burn his village, kill innocents and enslave the rest. However, Thorn is using mental telekinesis to stop him from going there, where he would be killed or even worse - enslaved.

So he has to watch helplessly from his hiding place how his home and family and friends are burned to the ground, killed or enslaved by the empire.

When the traumatic event is over he returns to Thorn, and demands a explaination, and recieve the classical "You are too weak, you would have ended up the same as them, we must grow stronger to punish these evil-doers".

So they train. They hunt in the Spine.

And they find out that dragons can regenerate anything given enough time to regrow it, which they abuse by removing stuff like claws, teeths, scales, bones and other dragon parts and turning them into weapon and armor for Eragon.

For example: dragon bones + dragon teeth = arrow. Dragon bone + dragon heartstring = Bow.

So they create a chainmail armor, a bow and arrows, cape and hood/cowl, boots, gloves with attached claws, sharp and strong enough to grab, rip and tear through all kinds of stuff, all in order to make Eragon a powerful fighter on all distances.

So after the long training montage, the rider mounts his dragon and together they leave the Spine, flying all over the Empire, burning and pillaging random towns and cities. Galbatorix and Morzan almost get a heart attack when they see a large red young dragon attack the very capital itself, burning a large amount of it and also succeeding to get away.

Sooner or later, in a raid against the Gil'ead, he finds a captured and tortured elf (princess), who manage to convince him to take her to the Varden, which he does as he has no primary goal at the moment.

So at Beor mountains a few days later the rider, dragon and elf meet the Varden, who tries to capture the rider, thinking he is a threat. After beating the crap out of most of them, he meets Brom, who manage to convince the dragon and his rider to join them.

I have plans for epic sky duels between Swordsman!Morzan and Ranger!Eragon, a massive war involving Urgals, the Empire and Varden, and Oromis and the Ra'zac, who are my favorite characters.

While this fic is not one of my primary fics, it still gathers enough mental attention that I'll work on it. I have not however read the third book, only some spoilers from it. Do note that I read the first and second book in Swedish, hence I skipped giving the canon name of some stuff as I am not sure if they are named the same in English. And please don't bother saying that these books sucks as I enjoyed them. The Roran part in the second was quite boring though.

So what do you guys think? Would you like to read a fic with this plot? Any suggestions/advice beside that I should improve my grammar? And please let me know if there are any fics featuring a Eragon with Thorn.
