Simple Summary:

On the return trip form the graveyard the tournament enforces a rule: there will only ever be one Triwizard Champion. Usually the one champion per school clause would result in other affects, but with Cedric and Harry technically both touching the cup at the same time, they are both the "winners". They don't merge until they reach the "Victors Stand" ie where they should have gone with the cup in the first place.

So Cedric still dies, and Harry absorbs all of his memories.

And the only people who know Cedric was dead was him and the death eaters.

So the portkey drops off an unconscious Harry/Cedric.

All Magic tests show positive for him being Harry, as well as Cedric. His birthday is BOTH Harry's and Cedric's.

As a consequence Cedric's home is also now a viable solution "For the summer" (As Dumbledore puts it, who still wants to watch over Harry, not manipulate, but watch.)

So yeah, there is Cedric's dad who is Cedric's dad.

I am also pulling more people into Harry's familial relation tree, IE Harry's grandmother (Black) had a sister who is Cedric's and Luna's grandmother.

So yeah, Cedric and Luna would be cousins.

Which would make the major players of Ottery a Black of some sort.

While staying with his parents he receives Cedric's Newt Results, and begins questioning if he needs/should return to Hogwarts.

Meanwhile Cho discovers through a series of unfortunate events that Cedric was going to ask her to marry him right after he graduated. In the summer they go about learning about each other, fights, ect, but sort of coming to an understanding to start over and give it a chance.

The friendship between Ron and Harry/Cedric all but falls apart as Cedric's experiences soured the water. Harry/Cedric and Hermione get along, but Hermione understands more that he isn't Harry, and the friendship gets complicated, a few fights, but eventually starts heading in the right track.

The whole merging put off the issue of Voldemort returning, and at the moment the Headmaster is plotting in the background, and the minister not trying to discredit him.

As the summer comes to a close looking for a fresh start away from people who knew him as Harry or Cedric, he sits the Auror Acadmey entrance exams, deciding not to return to Hogwarts.

Inside of the academy the main characters would be Tonks, Kinglsey, Moody, Moony, and eventually after a series of reveals with Umbridge at Hogwarts, Flitwick, and a few OC's as needed. Outside he will remain in close contact with Fluer, Krum, Hermione, Cho, Hufflepuff friend 1.

And then the story goes from there.

Thoughts?

Why instantly snap off Ron's friendship but leave Hermione?

I don't see it as a permanent break. Probably until after Ron and Hermione's 5th year.

It is pretty much a battle on Cedric's side between loyalty to Ron and lack of loyalty from Ron. Keep in mind Cedric also has is own memories of Ron, and Ron in first year literally saw in the mirror that he was what Cedric became, and was "handed" to Harry. I just don't see the two characters being able to repair a relationship after the first fight.

Those sentiments while there aren't the focus point. They definitely exacerbate the situation a Harry clearly picks up on those vibes, but the 'primary' cause is Ron refusing to treat him as anything except Harry, but him having lost a large chunk of respect for Ron so less willing to put up with him. Eventually they start fighting over something stupid which turns into an airing of evergreens and eventually Harry just leaving. To be clear it will be Harry that walks away from Ron, with neither of them yelling.

Ron ends up growing in fifth year a large chunk, the DA still happens with Cho, Hermione, and Ron taking the lead. Cho and Hermione and up bonding after Cho warning off Hermione who eventually rants out the fact she likes Ron and that she hardly even knows Harry even more, which Cho sympathizes with going over the same things during the summer with Cedric.

Ron still makes the quidditch team, and perhaps ends up bonding with Neville more? A Neville / Ron bromance could be pretty cool if unexpected. I don't know. There would need to be some catalyst or something for that to happen. Bellatrix killing a family member during the year sometime?
